Chapter 31: Conviction

The Archdevil spent a month ceaselessly attempting to break the chains before sending Lucas back to the small room.

In the span of time, Lucas didn't experience starvation and thirst from the ceaseless futile attempt of the Archdevil. Lucas had been corrupted by his Aether Evil Element. But when the chain fought back again and again, it also repelled the Aether Evil Element from corrupting Lucas's body, renewing his energy.

He could actually turn Lucas into a demon! But what he found out was that without the fusion process of the devil's body, he couldn't create the type of demon the Archduchess wanted. Therefore, he prepared a devil corpse and turned Lucas into a demon.

It was why he had chosen to fuse Lucas and the devil's corpse despite the fact that he could turn him into a demon in an instant. He had experienced countless failures and killed other Devil lords and fiends, yet still not experiencing a breakthrough from his experiment.

He almost gave up, and the desire to have sex with the Archduchess diminished.

Of course, it wasn't complete since it was the reason he was still working for success.

But he met Lucas and the mysterious chains on his soul…

And now, he was reaching it, placing his focal attention on it. Meanwhile, Lucas was busy renewing the energy he had lost, satiating his hunger and thirst.

It was then he realized the Aether Evil Element flowing through his body was too much, and it was turning berserk!

Lucas was shaken, but quickly got a hold of himself. He had to be meticulous in controlling the flow of Aether Evil Element, but still… it was still raging like an enormous tide, causing his stomach to slowly inflate.

There was no other place for him to hold the Aether Evil Element to breathe it out in one go, and even his respiration was becoming faster and faster…

The Devil didn't realize this and was now about to grasp the chain and as expected… it slapped his ghoulish hand again.

Even with his center of attention focused on the chain, he couldn't glimpse how it did.

The Devil retracted his hand, and a frowning expression appeared on his face.

However, Lucas was astonished to perceive the Aether Evil Element was completely gone inside his body, and the enormous tide he perceived suddenly calmed down with dead silence, and no ripples could even be seen.

He was utterly shocked.

Opening his eyes just in time to receive the frightening stare of the Archdevil while utilizing some of his consciousness to check his condition.

Indeed, he returned to his peak condition and believed he could even run for five minutes straight. But there was a need to focus here, so he had to forget the joyous moments after confirming his health condition.

The silence was so loud that even Lucas wanted to shout, but he couldn't, still staring silently at that ghoulish face. He grew accustomed to his environment and its people, so he wasn't scared as before anymore.

Silently, the Archdevil was shocked to realize Lucas was filled with vigor, daringly staring back at him with his exuberant eyes. He was aware that Lucas was now robust, which was completely contrary to a short moment ago.

It meant that the chain must be the main reason.

It didn't click on him that from his Aether Evil Element, Lucas took the chance to make it his and digested it, renewing the vitality he lost.

"What are those chains?"

"Chains?"

Lucas quickly connects the subject to what the Archdevil had done to him. He must be talking about the chains in his body, but he found nothing of the sort, and it left him bewildered.

Looking at his reactions, the Archdevil was slightly surprised that Lucas was unaware of the chains, but thinking about the being that placed it, he felt it made sense.

After all, how could a lowlife be aware of a being's action, who probably touched a higher realm than him?

Therefore, he decided not to continue to talk about the topic since it would be meaningless anyway.

After a bit of exchange, still leaving Lucas bewildered, the Archdevil walked out the door with exasperation.

Still the same, nothing had changed, and he had to decide his future now.

"I will come and perform a check-up from time to time. My previous words are still valid."

Leaving those words behind for Lucas to comprehend, he shut the door with a bang!

Lucas couldn't ponder why the door still managed to withstand the outcome of the Archdevil's action. After all, he was thinking about what the devil meant and his future.

It seemed he escaped death… for the time being.

He still needs to find another way to escape, and that only leaves… the teleportation magic array.

Looking back, from the first conversation he had with the Archdevil, he strangely discovered he could understand him.

He didn't reply when the Archdevil spoke to him before, so the Archdevil wasn't completely conscious about how Lucas could understand him.

But when he realized how he also quickly connected it to the chain anyway, and the devil's language was not foreign even to the otherworld.

Why?

For the reason that the other world's inhabitants created a teleportation magic array, chanted some devil language words, and then pointed the coordination to the Devil's realm, and attempted to summon a Devil.

Therefore, it wasn't surprising that the Devil's language was well-known to other worlds. After all, the cases of summoning from other worlds have been appearing normal to the devil circle, and only those lords below the devil ranking always respond to the call.

There was no worthy being that summoned them.

Unless the higher-ranking Devil grew bored, only then they would respond.

But why could Lucas understand and speak Devil's language fluently as though it was his mother tongue? The Archdevil never realized this, but Lucas did. Lucas couldn't help but recall why the Goddess's blessing failed solely on him.

He must not be a human then but a devil.

But how does that work when he had no tails or characteristics of a devil whatsoever?

"Whether I'm an actual devil or a human. It doesn't matter.

No matter what form I have, I will grow stronger and attain a higher realm. There's no need for a reason to get stronger, just be it and pursue greater heights.

Only then will I find the reason to live."
