Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Wanting to ensure his safety during the night, John got up from the chair and began to secure the room. He checked the door, making sure it was locked, and then proceeded to examine the windows. There was one window in the room, and after confirming that it was locked as well, he decided to cover it with a heavy curtain to block any outside view.

Lastly, John moved the chair in the room and wedged it under the door handle, creating an additional barrier to prevent the door from being easily opened from the outside.

Feeling more secure, John finally allowed himself to relax and get some much-needed rest. He climbed into the bed, and before long, he drifted off to sleep, his mind filled with thoughts of the challenges and discoveries that awaited him the next day.

John slept soundly throughout the night, the quiet and cozy atmosphere of the room providing a sense of calm and comfort. As he slept, his mind processed the events of the day, mentally preparing him for the challenges that lay ahead.

The morning sun filtered through the heavy curtain, gently rousing John from his slumber. He stretched, feeling refreshed and recharged, ready to embark on his investigation.

With a clear plan in mind, he knew that his first destination was the Old Ebonshire Library, where he hoped to search for information and meet the town's librarian. But before he set off, John decided to take advantage of the breakfast that was included with his stay at The Raven's Perch. He knew that he would need a good meal to fuel him for the day's activities.

John got out of bed, freshened up, and headed downstairs to the inn's common area where breakfast was being served. The warm and inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee, eggs, and bacon filled the air, making his stomach rumble in anticipation.

Several other patrons were already seated at the wooden tables, enjoying their meals and engaging in quiet conversation. John found an empty table and took a seat. The innkeeper, who was bustling about serving the guests, noticed him and approached with a welcoming smile.

"Good morning! I hope you had a restful night," she said cheerfully. "For breakfast, we have eggs, bacon, fresh bread, butter, jam, and a selection of fruits. And, of course, we have coffee or tea to drink. What would you like?"

After John placed his order, the innkeeper promptly returned with a hearty breakfast, which he eagerly began to eat. As he enjoyed his meal, John thought about his plan for the day and mentally prepared himself for his visit to the Old Ebonshire Library.

As John finished his breakfast, he made sure to thank the innkeeper for the delicious meal. "Your cooking is truly wonderful," he complimented her. "Thank you for providing such a satisfying start to my day." The innkeeper beamed with pride at the praise. "You're most welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Have a great day, and if you need anything during your stay, don't hesitate to ask." With his belly full and his spirits high, John left The Raven's Perch and set off toward the Old Ebonshire Library. The morning sun had fully risen now, casting a warm, golden light on the cobblestone streets as the town began to stir with activity.

Upon reaching the library, John found himself standing before an impressive building made of aged stone, adorned with intricate carvings and ornate ironwork. The library had clearly stood the test of time, as the craftsmanship and attention to detail in its construction were evident even after all these years.

John took a deep breath and entered the library, eager to delve into the wealth of knowledge that awaited him within its walls and, hopefully, to make the acquaintance of the town's librarian.

John caught the attention of the innkeeper as she passed by his table. "The breakfast was delicious. Thank you," he said with a warm smile.

The innkeeper beamed, clearly pleased by his compliment. "You're most welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a great day, and don't hesitate to come back if you need anything."

With that, John gathered his belongings and set out for the Old Ebonshire Library. The morning air was crisp and refreshing, energizing him as he walked through the cobblestone streets. The town was slowly coming to life, with shopkeepers opening their doors and townsfolk beginning their daily routines.

After a short walk, John arrived at the Old Ebonshire Library. The building was a large, imposing structure made of stone, with tall, narrow windows and a heavy wooden door. It seemed to be one of the oldest buildings in town, and its walls were likely filled with countless stories and secrets.

John took a deep breath and pushed the door open, stepping into the dimly lit library. Rows of bookshelves stretched as far as the eye could see, and the air was thick with the scent of old parchment and leather. It was a treasure trove of knowledge, and John couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as he ventured further inside.

As John continued to explore the library, he spotted an elderly woman behind a large, wooden desk, engrossed in a book. John approached her, assuming that she was the librarian he had hoped to meet.

"Excuse me," he began politely. "I was hoping you could help me find some information about the history of Ebonshire."

The woman looked up from her book, her eyes sharp and intelligent. "Certainly, young man," she replied with a warm smile. "I'm the librarian, Mrs. Blackwood. What specifically are you looking for?"

John explained his investigation and mentioned the conversation he had overheard at the inn, regarding the secret chamber in Lord Ebon's manor.

"Ah, the legend of Lord Ebon's secret chamber," Mrs. Blackwood mused. "It's a fascinating story, and one that has intrigued many people over the years. I can show you where to find more information on the subject."

John thanked her, and together, they delved into the depths of the Old Ebonshire Library, searching for the knowledge that would help him unravel the mysteries of the town's past.
