Chapter 6: 6

The Hijacked Ship Daro

After another three hours of inventory, I had already been sitting in the captain's chair for two hours and didn't know what to do with myself. During the inventory, I found a good arsenal of weapons of all calibers and manufacturers in their hangar. There were: Turian sniper rifles, Krogan shotguns, Asari pistols, Salarian assault rifles, human grenade launchers, Geth weaponry, and a machine gun. The latter especially caught my attention because, according to the invoice (yes, Quarians have invoices too), this machine gun was from the Krogan uprisings. I don't know how it ended up here or how it survived to this time, but one thing I know well — this machine gun was developed by the Turian Hierarchy and was designed to turn Krogans into mincemeat. Yes, this machine gun can easily tear off Krogan limbs and explode their heads. Now imagine what it can do to Geth. Yes, now it's clear what this machine gun is doing here, and in such good condition. And now I understand that the Quarians are taking to the Fleet everything they can carry that does not pose a danger. Well, let's move on. Next, I found an IMIR robot in a disassembled state. Judging by the plans, the Quarians wanted to turn it into a support robot. It's understandable - it's not safe to risk people. With their knowledge of VI, they could make a good support out of the robot. Moving on... And then I realized that the Quarians are also sadists. In the hangar, I found an Elcor howitzer. Yes, that's right, the howitzer that Elcors mount on their backs and control with a visor, with reloading done by the VI. But the main thing is not this, but the fact that the Quarians wanted to install this howitzer on the IMIR. On the second IMIR, they planned to install the machine gun. And where did they find the howitzer, the machine gun, and all this arsenal? Homeless, huh. And armed better than the Salarian Union, damn.

Alright, moving on. Next, I found a tank. No, not a turian tank from the times of the Krogan Rebellions, the size of the "Ratte" tank that was only planned to be built in the Third Reich, although I wouldn't be surprised by that. It was an asari main battle tank, like the T-34 in the USSR during WWII, which could also fly. The crew consisted of three people: a mechanic-driver, a commander, and a gunner, with VI controlling the machine guns. The maximum speed was 50 km/h. And it was in full working order. Indeed, the quarians were really good engineers. And definitely not lazy.

Next, I rummaged through various records and found quite a lot of interesting information. This ship was already planning to fly to Tuchanka to quietly retrieve a ground-to-space weapon and install it as the main caliber. Well, this Daro has quite an imagination. And that's why I went to her cabin and dug through her records. First, I found a tablet on which a strange page was open: "History of Humanity - World War II - Eastern Front," and the chapter was called "The Battle of Stalingrad." Hm, so she's interested in our history? And in my previous life, I was better than anyone in my class at history, especially on the topic of World War II. I need to somehow read about how Alliance propaganda works here. Surely they're badmouthing Stalin.

It looks like you've stumbled upon some interesting finds. The tank you discovered sounds quite impressive, especially with its ability to fly. And it's impressive that the ship was planning to acquire a space-to-ground weapon.

As for the books on Greek philosophers, it seems like Admiral Dara has a strong interest in human culture and history. It's true that humans tend to strive for greatness and recognition, despite their relatively short lifespans compared to other species.

But it's the discovery of Admiral Dara's personal diary that seems to have caught your attention the most. It's understandable that you would want to distract yourself from what you read, but accessing the memories of this platform may not be the best solution. It's important to respect the privacy of others and not invade their personal thoughts and experiences.

Instead, perhaps you could focus on your own goals and plans for your new body. Making modifications to improve your physical abilities is a good start. Just make sure you do it safely and with consideration for the impact on your body.

I certainly expected everything, but this... I really didn't expect that. It turns out that this platform was created even before the Morning War. A month before it. Its first task was to be a security guard at a concert of some singer. I, that is, the platform, didn't see her, as I stood right by the stage and looked at the crowd of 353,126 quarians, but the platform did manage to record her voice. And I realized that I had never heard anything more beautiful. This voice was simply divine. Then there was the Morning War. And there was a lot about it in the geth's memory. But let's go through everything in order.

First, one platform asked that fateful question: "Does this platform have a soul?". Well, understandably, the quarian the question was addressed to freaked out and took the geth for diagnostics. There, the geth simply ignored all orders to shut down and just didn't understand what was happening. Scientists reported this to the government within an hour, and then the real panic began there. Everyone immediately understood that the machine uprising was not far away, and they needed to act quickly. Immediately, an order was issued to all quarian colonies to deactivate the geth.

But that was not the case. The geth didn't want to do this. They just didn't understand why they should shut down. Panicking even more, the government decided to deactivate the geth using the good old method - a bullet to the head. Soldiers didn't ask any unnecessary questions and began shooting at all geth, not caring about private property.

But the geth didn't resist immediately. They started to hide wherever they could. In mines, especially uranium or similar ones, in sewers, and the deeper, the better, some hid themselves along with luggage on some ships, and some were hidden by kind quarians. And the irony is that my platform was hidden by that very singer. The platform never found out her name, but it remembered her face. All the geth remember her. Her face was truly graceful, as was her figure, and the villa where they hid me was designed in a style strongly reminiscent of our Earth's Art Nouveau. She even quarreled with her daughter because of me, who later turned me over to the soldiers. I managed to escape, but what happened to her - the platform never found out. However, in the memory was the sight of the burning villa within an hour when the geth managed to climb down the cliff on which the villa was located.

In general, when the geth buried themselves in the farthest corners of the Quarian Republic (that was the name of the quarian state), when the quarians began to die at the hands of other quarians due to the geth, and when the quarians began to descend into these very corners to turn the geth into scrap metal, it was then that fear took over the geth. The instinct for self-preservation began to guide the geth.

The first quarians to die on Rannoch were the space infantry, who were sent into the sewers to deal with the geth. It was then that the geth went berserk. They beat everyone to death, took all their weapons - and it began. First, the geth captured a police station with a considerable arsenal. Leaving 20 platforms inside, which took up a defensive position, the main force, armed to the teeth, split up and went through the sewers to capture the other police stations. In three hours, the city of Nim`nan, the second most populous after the capital, lost all its stations, weapon depots, then power stations, pumping stations, radars, anti-aircraft guns, and so on. They controlled the entire sewer system. The geth did not dare to enter the spaceports, as there was too high a concentration of troops there. The same situation was in other cities of Rannoch, but not everywhere did everything go smoothly. Cities that had military units nearby managed to repel the geth attacks, as they were well-prepared.

And what was happening in the colonies defies description altogether! Both quarians and geth created such chaos and carnage that it's impossible to describe. And everyone was to blame, yet no one was to blame. The quarians defended their people and their homes, while the geth simply defended themselves. At least that's what they thought. Their processing power was still insufficient, and because of their fear of death, they made a fateful decision. The Creators (quarians) posed a threat to the geth. And it was this decision that filled the minds of the geth, and now they simply destroyed the threat. They didn't think about anything else because they couldn't due to the lack of processing power. So now, the geth were indiscriminately attacking everyone. By their own decision, the geth considered the Creators (quarians) a threat. Unfortunately, all children, elderly, and women were also quarians, which meant they were Creators and a threat. Because of this, the geth knew no mercy; they simply solved the problem of the threat to their existence. The geth launched a blitzkrieg against the Creators, causing the latter to massively leave the colonies and flee to Rannoch, hoping it would be safe there.

In just one week, 5 billion quarians had gathered on Rannoch, even though there were only 1 billion before the war. But battles were still happening there, not always in favor of the quarians, but they managed to hold the major cities, including the capital. Unfortunately, the geth still saw the Creators as a threat, so they decided to go all-in. In their flight, the quarians had forgotten to take or destroy their warships - even the space fleet crews participated in the defense of cities and the protection of civilians in civilian ports, like sailors during the defense of Odessa and Sevastopol. And it was on these ships, which made up half of the pre-war quarian fleet, that the geth headed to Rannoch.

The attack began even without orbital bombardment. Just all the ships, from all corners of the Republic, simultaneously, within a few seconds, appeared in Rannoch's orbit. The geth began their landing at 6:00 a.m. local time. The President of the Republic, who was a woman, died at 6:34 a.m. The last minister, the Minister of Infrastructure, at 7:01 a.m. The last deputy of the Republican Assembly at 09:15 a.m. When the military learned that the President was dead, along with the entire Council of Ministers, and that contact with anyone from Parliament was simply lost, it was then that they made that very decision.

At 09:30, an order from Admiral Rael'Zorah rang out across all frequencies, instructing all civilians to flee to the spaceports and leave Rannoch. The other three still-living admirals did not argue with the order, even though they could have, and also began to retreat to the spaceports, maintaining defense so that as many civilians as possible could escape. Unfortunately, there were few ships on Rannoch itself, and those that the refugees had arrived on were not even in the spaceports. When the refugees were already arriving in full force, the spaceports were overloaded, so they were allowed to land anywhere. As a result, all fields, meadows, and plains were filled with ships. One frigate even managed to land on a stadium. Therefore, many ships were lost, and the ones that were left... There simply weren't enough.

At exactly 12:00, the last ship left the spaceport and flew away. The fate of the quarians who remained on Rannoch was bleak. And only when the geth created more programs did they realize the mistake they had made.

And they have regretted it ever since.

I used the GPT-4 a little bit. Just to be sure. But I think it worked.... Eh. I hope so.
