Chapter 10: An important day (1)
"Young master! Are you awake yet? It's almost time for you to visit the church. Today's the big day!" A servant said as he knocked on the door of a room in the Nightmoon household.
"Yes, yes. I'm awake, Magnus. Give me five minutes. I'll head down for breakfast shortly.", the voice of a child could be heard.
"I understand. Then I will head downstairs and wait patiently for your arrival.", The butler who was addressed as magnus replied as he headed downstairs.
'Young master sure has changed a fuck ton. I guess it ain't surprising considering what he's been through. But damn....I just can't help but feel kinda sad at how formally he speaks to even me nowadays. It all feels like he's hiding his true self.", The butler thought as his expression turned bitter. The manner of speech in his thoughts were completely opposite that of his outward formal demeanor. Yet unless one possesses mind reading abilities there is no way for others to know.
"I mean I put up a facade too man but that's cuz of my job. I hope he ain't bottling up his emotions." The butler muttered without taking notice of his surroundings.
"Hey! Magnus be more careful about how you speak in the mansion! If our lord catches your informal tone he might fire you!" A woman's voice echoed in the corridors.
"Ah, fuck. Thank you for cautioning me Ms Gloria. I'll be much more careful." Magnus replied to the maid who was glaring at him.

It's been a year since I've come to this world. After my conversation with Aerith Nightmoon, nothing significant happened. My relationship with Magnus is perfect. Close but not too close. Unfortunately or not however, my situation with my father hasn't improved much. Besides that, I also acquired the child Dusk's memories but thankfully they don't seem to affect me.....much. There are some things that are slightly concerning to me but I might be able to get my answers today.
Because today is the day I will awaken my magic, and during the awakening it is said sometimes it is possible to make contact with a deity. If I can make contact with the goddess I know, then I might get my answers.
That aside, the Humans of this world, or well the fortunate ones apparently all awaken their magic at around the age of 5. Mana may be used by just about everyone as it's part of their life and is required for living but magic is something that has to be awakened.
The awakening process is pretty simple. You go to a church and get a "status" paper from them. It's apparently the guidance of deities or something? I dunno I'm not religious. The important part is, it's a detailed description of your magic, skill and potential.
The goddess already explained magic to me so I didn't find anything new regarding it's concept. However, she didn't explain "Skill" and "Talent" in our meeting, likely because she ran out of time.
Skills are basically a kind of ability that you may or may not get besides your magic. More often than not, they synergize with your magic. For example, A fire magic user may get a skill like "Pyromancer" or "Salamander's sass" which boosts the power of their fire magic. The power of the skill can vary depending on each individual. However even if your skill is weak at first, it's possible for it to evolve as you train it. There are cases where your skill has no relation to your magic and kinda sucks but that's usually when you have really rotten luck. So if it took you a lot of cash or you had to rely on some sort of "guarantee" every time you tried pulling your favourite character in a gacha, it's best you keep your expectations low.
As for talent, it's the thing you will excel at and improve at a faster pace. If the status paper says you'll be a good mage, then you will be very good at magic. If it says you're fit to be a swordsman, then you might be able to do some flashy things once you train enough. Like appear behind an enemy with their back to you and as they turn your way to say, "Ha! You missed, you motherfu-" you sheathe your sword which causes a head to fall off. Then you take a peek at your crush who you were trying to impress while smirking, but to your horror she's the one who's been beheaded instead. Then you hear your opponent scream, "NOOOO! HOW DARE YOU KILL MY BROTHER!" and it causes you to experience a different kind of horror.
That pretty much sums up what kind of information you get from the "status" paper. As for how it works, you just inject your mana into it, which causes the paper to show information about you with your mana. The information present on the paper can also not be seen by anyone but the one who injected his mana into the paper. So only you will know what kind of skills you have.
'All right, I'm ready.' I thought as I was done changing my clothes and combing my hair.
"I wonder what kind of magic I'll awaken. Hmm... actually I wonder if I'll awaken my magic today at all. Hope I'm not a late bloomer " I muttered out loud as I stepped outside my room.
