Chapter 22: Return of my shut-in life(1)

It's been two years since my visit to the church. During this time I vigorously trained my mana control and unlocked my hidden skill. Then I attempted to hone my magic.

Unfortunately, my magic: (Recreation) requires many conditions to even use.

Firstly, to recreate something I have to understand the concept of its creation and then memorize its basic structure accurately. After that, I have to identify and duplicate the composition material. For example, if I'm going to recreate a sword, then I have to identify what it's made of. Then I have to be able to replicate Iron in the sword when recreating it. And after those 3 steps, finally, I have to add modifications to the recreated object. Modifications such as changing a straight sword into a curved one so it's slicing proficiency increases or reducing the area of the sword to make it pointy and fit for stabbing like a rapier.

It's a four-step process of learning for each and everything I want to recreate. Now usually this would take far too long for anyone to want to invest their time on. I knew the process of learning how to create even small weapons like knives would take too much time and effort if I tackled this normally.

So I focused on unlocking my hidden skill. The hidden skill (In-depth inspection) allows an individual to inspect things deeply, even on a molecular level. This allowed me to fasten the 3rd step of my magic immensely. Which is to identify and be able to replicate the composition material. This skill turned out to be an immense time saver because the 3rd step was the one that would usually take me arguably the longest.

But even after that, learning how to properly recreate fire and water took a long time. Even though I knew what they were composed of due to learning chemistry in my past life, I couldn't quite adjust the volume and power. But that gradually improved, even more so than it should have.

At first, I was a bit confused. Because although continuous practice could improve most things, the pace I grew at properly wielding my magic, was getting more impressive by the day. So I started to question what the cause could be.

After giving it a little thought, I managed to quickly realize that it was my mana control training.

By learning how to use mana more efficiently, my magic was also seeing more drastic improvements. So I started to focus mostly on training my mana. After about 1 and a half years, the growth I was showing from that training started to slow down. At first, I thought it was because Dawn kept annoying me and wasting my time by nagging me to go outside more. But in the end, I judged it to be me reaching the mid-levels of mana control. While developing skills it's quite common for your growth rate to decrease as your understanding of the skill becomes higher and higher. At least that was the case in my experience.

So I then resumed training my magic and learning the 4 step recreation processes of oil, flour, knives, swords, and many other things I could use in daily life or on a battlefield. Which continued for the last 6 months. During this time I mostly stayed in my room and only left it to test out my magic whenever nobody was near. I of course didn't stop training my mana either. I just did it less than my magic.

Today I was testing out my magic to recreate wind. I've been trying to recreate it for a few days now. And after lots of trials and errors, I managed to continuously blow out a gust of wind through the palm of my hands, that glowed with mana. In the case of wind, fire, water, and other elements it doesn't take much to fulfill the conditions of modification. Just making fire burn a bit hotter or water a bit cooler is enough. That aside, I lost myself for a while in the feelings of fulfillment I felt from the success of recreating wind. After a window slammed open on the other side of the mansion and I heard annoyed yelling, I stopped myself from going any further.

"That's enough, I guess. It seems like I'll be able to use this in battle or to relieve myself from the heat when the time of summer comes." I said to myself with a smile.

But alas my joy was short-lived as I sensed something unpleasant in the area of the mansion. It was a familiar presence. This presence was always a sign of doom for my peaceful life. My smile instantly vanished as I realized who it likely was.

I focused mana in my feet to enhance my jumping capabilities and then propelled myself towards the window of my room. I was hoping that I was mistaken but to my disappointment, the voice of a young girl clearly entered my ears.

"Dusk?!"

'Did she really enter my room without permission....' I thought as my expression soured.

Then I saw her, a blonde little girl with amber eyes. As I sat upon the railings of the window I was trying to reach earlier, I stared at her right in the eye after she turned to face me.

Right now I was thinking of how I could say something that would somehow drive her away. I was thinking if I should be unreasonably rude but I felt like I was always somewhat rude to her so I scrapped that idea. I was thinking if I should act creepy but trying to act that way sounded like too much effort. Then I came up with a suitable idea. In my previous life, I had heard that making bad jokes or puns could often make people leave due to sheer cringe. So if I could make her cringe hard enough maybe she'd leave.

"Do you know what sea monsters eat for dinner?" I asked Dawn with a straight face.

"What?"

"Fish and ships."
