Chapter 2: Sunday Saving!

I woke up with a clear mind, and in a relaxed state. I feel like I won a trophy or something. I just vented my feelings and it felt good. Today is Sunday, the day I count all my saved money, and see what I can spend. Since I got the scholarship, this spending money can go towards college, but If I keep my grades up, I might get a full ride to college. But, just in case, I will keep saving. I have been saving since I was five years old. Any coin or dollar I could get went mainly to my savings.

"Mama! Do you have any coins that you don't want?" I ask loudly.

"Ali, it's so early in the morning, I know your saving but, you can't be yelling this early in the morning," she says while making breakfast.

"Lo siento. Do you have any spare change or money?" I ask again in a lower tone.

"Yes, I have been keeping a whole jar of change just for you. I left it at the top of my closet in my room."

"Really? Thanks, Mama!" I say and kiss her on the cheek.

I rush upstairs, ignoring the growls in my stomach, I am focused on saving my money. Last time I counted seven hundred dollars, but all in change. I didn't touch it, so it should still be the same amount in my jar. I didn't know Mama would have a whole other jar of change for me. I walked into her bedroom and made a left into her bathroom. The closet is big and connected to the master bathroom. I walk into the closet and turn on the lights. I look up, and there it was, a large coca cola shaped jar, about three feet tall, and filled almost to the top with coins. It was about a whole few years' worth of coins saved. I'm so happy, I feel calm when counting money. I love money so much! But I would still choose love over money, any day. I reach up, trying to grab it off the shelf, but I can't seem to reach it. I'm only 5"5. I have no idea why I didn't inherit any height, my dad is over six feet, and my mom is about 5"8. I leave, then come back with a stepping stool. Finally, I manage to carry the heavy coin jar off the shelf, and into my room. There, I pour the coins out of the jar, and onto my bed. I take my other jar which is much smaller than the new one and I transfer the seven hundred dollars worth of coins into the new jar, so I won't have to recount them. Then I count coin by coin, adding them into the new jar. "701, 702, 703...801, 802, 803...912, 913...1000". I have one thousand dollars worth of coins. Now, there is only one thing to do. I have to take the coins to the bank and use that coin machine, then transfer the coins into cash. I run downstairs and give Mama a big hug.

"What's this all about?" said Mama.

"Mama, I made it to my goal! I have one thousand dollars! But I just have one thing to do now." I spoke.

"What is it?"

"I need to transfer the coins into cash at the bank. So, can you please take me? Please?"

"Alright, alright, but you have to eat breakfast first."

"Okay!"

I was so hungry, but I was overly excited that I finally met my goal. I plan to save at least six hundred in my savings account, then give Mama and Papa each one hundred, then I keep two hundred to take with me to California. So, I ate, stuffing the bacon, eggs, and waffles in my mouth like a madman. I was so happy. Then I chugged the orange juice in the glass, washed the dishes, and put on my slippers. Yes, I forgot to change, but I could care less about what people think, my pajamas are comfortable and fluffy, and I feel good. I get in the car with my new jar filled with all my coins and buckle my seat belt. We head to the bank, about 15 minutes away from home. I look out the window, admiring the beauty of nature. I see a family of deer cross the street. Good thing we weren't driving fast. I saw the beach and people running into the water, having fun. I turn away from the window and look down at my phone. A notification labeled; "New Message" appears on the screen. I click it, and it seems to be from the Academy. it reads, "Sorry for the last-minute update, but the school will be starting one week early. Please arrive at school on time, and ready for classes." I pause out of disbelief. Was this happening? Doesn't that mean school starts tomorrow?! Oh, my lord! What do I do? How am I going to get to California so fast? I got to tell Mama.

"Mama, we have a little problem," I said nervously.

"What's the problem Princesa?" she said cheerfully.

"The school just changed the opening date to tomorrow, which means I would have to fly to California tonight to make it to school by 8:00 AM."

"Oh dear, we have to hurry!"

We hurry to the bank, then back home. I sprint upstairs like Usain Bolt, and I change my clothes to something more presentable, I make sure that I am clean, and preppy looking, got to make an impression. I won't get the uniform until I arrive, which means, I would have to wear this to school until they give me a uniform. I grab my phone charger, headphones, and a pack of gum. I rush back downstairs and put on my shoes. Mama is in the kitchen packing me some Arepas and other food for lunch. I grab my suitcase from the closet and head to the front door. Alright, here is some food to eat if you are hungry. She gives me a tight hug, and I say my goodbyes to the rest of my family. I pull my suitcase out of the front door and carry it to my uber driver's car. I get in and we drive off to the airport. I booked a ticket with my phone on the way, so my flight should be leaving soon. When I get to the airport, I make it just in time and board the flight. I put my suitcase in the overhead container and take my seat. I plug my headphones into the audio jack of the small TV screen on the back of the chair in front of me, and I watch a movie. Luckily, I got a seat by the window, and no one was sitting in my row. I relaxed, and once again drifted off to sleep. I hope I get to show people how I truly am and make lots of new friends too! I also hope that all my teachers are nice. I am so excited! But I'm scared. I got this though, I can do this. New school, new life. It all starts now.
