Chapter 4: a glimpse of the past
My life before transmigration might have been one ginormous fuck-up. It was a an emotional joyride of ups and downs. Misery, hardship, hope, despair, determination, loneliness and so much more. and yet my worst memory has nothing to do with that life at all.
This memory was my single most terrifying, painful and ..... confusing memory.
I rewinded my memories to about six and a half years ago. The one memory I could never forget about. The Godrics hollow incident.
The cottage was surrounded by a cozy silence. A lazy smoke escaped through the chimney as a green flame burst in the fireplace. From inside the flame came two men. A rather tall man with long hair and beard and another man, a dwarf with a small bald patch.
Another man with glasses and rugged hair, came into the room, opening a door, whistling a casual melody, and slowly dancing to the beat. He was unaware of the other two presences as his eyes were completely focused on the baby in his hand. The man pulled out a wand from his pocket and wordlessly summoned the baby bottle from across the room without even looking while still dancing to the beat of his whistle.
The tall man sighed and announced:"James! "
Immediately James snapped around a red beam bursting out of his wand. The tall man, unphased, tilted his head slightly letting the beam hit the wall shattering a vase. The tall man smirked:" nice to see you too James. "
James yelled outraged:" what the ...what... WHAT THE fuck were you thinking sirius. I could have killed you!"
Sirius replied with a smile:" nooooo you couldn't have. And were you actually dancing??? ". He said trying to stifle his laugh.
James replied flushed:"no... I was doing..... aerobics.... Which is a.... muggle thing.... To...um... reinforce core balance.....??!!"
Sirius burst into laughter and holding his stomach and wheezing. The short bald man looked at James with pity:" come on James. Really?"
James still flushed shouted:" shut up Peter! It was aerobics. End of discussion." his face immediately shifted to a more serious tone:" why are you here, Sirius. Not that I don't enjoy the company. But you know you are.... "
"Francis is dead." Sirius announced.
The trio became silent. James's eyes were wide as he processed this:" when..."
"yesterday. Him and his entire squad and order of Phoenix members were surrounded and killed. It wasn't even a fight. It was a massacre. "
"Merlin.. " James gasped:" I didn't.... "
"for ages we have speculated there's a mole amongst us James. But it's not a speculation anymore. Francis' mission was classified to the point even among top tier members of the order many were unaware of it's existence much less it's purpose." Sirius continued:" we can't keep having this lie anymore James. There's obviously a traitor amongst us. And we have to act fast."
James nodded:" what do you propose? "
Sirius said:" a final line of defense for the child of the prophecy. Right now almost all of the oder thinks that I am the secret keeper of the Fidelia charm. Which means as long as I never give up the location of the child of the prophecy it will forever remain a secret. But what if the mole gives up my name. They could torture me or break my mind and take the secret. "
James replied:" Sirius you would never.... "
"this is not about what I might or might not do. This is the child of prophecy's safety. " shouted sirius:" we create one final diversion. We change the secret keeper from me...to Peter. "
James looked at peter:" and you are willing"
Peter looked him dead in the eye:" I would die for you James. "
James nodded his head solemnly. He did not like plan. But it did make sense to create a fail-safe.
James reluctantly nodded:" we need to call Dumbledore..."
"No!" Peter cut in:" He will never allow a fracture to occur within the order on a hunch. His blind faith in others has always been his fatal flaw."
Sirius continue:" and I agree. The less people know it the better. Where's lily?"
James replied:" she's sleeping should I wake her??? "
Sirius shook his head:"no! Let's begin"
Suddenly the entire scene turned into whirls of silvery lines as Harry bitterly looked at the memory.
