Chapter 18: Best Team.

Nicki was escorted out of the hall by the male that came looking for her with the word the Alpha calls for her. The walk with him was a boring one and thankfully wasn't a long one once since they both didn't know each other and weren't having some sort of discussion that would have slowed them down.

On reaching the Alpha's place, Nicki's heart started misbehaving and beating faster. She better bring it down to normality or the Alpha might suspect she was guilty of something through her heartbeat. Even she could hear it beating so guiltily.

Then it dawned on her the reason her heart was beating this way, her guides must have snitched on her and told the Alpha of the faulty act she committed last night and probably put everything on her. But she wasn't going to blame or hate them for saving their asses only, she said she was going to take full responsibility for everything alone.

Nicki got into the Alpha's chamber only to be welcomed with strange looks coming from her guides, they were trying to communicate with her using their eyes and lips as some sort of signal but she couldn't understand anything as what they were doing was silly and funny to her instead.

She walked closer to the Alpha's throne and paid him respect with a bow. And then slowly moved to stand in the same spot with her guides to figure out easily what they were trying to tell her using their eyes and lips as a signal.

"Nicki" The Alpha called the moment she had settled at a place. He knew she couldn't lie to his face when he would ask her what he called her in here for and so he ordered her to lift her head and look at him while he asked.

"Since I put them as your guides. How have they been assisting you with the things you need to know? Do you find any faults with them?" The Alpha asked a few simple questions that required just a short answer from Nicki.

And she opened her mouth to speak but was stopped by her guides whispering certain indistinct words to her.

"Can you move away from them? Five feet away to be precise" The Alpha seemed to have noticed what Hanna and Astrid were doing and so he made Nicki create a distance between them.

"Good, now you can speak" He urged Nicki to go on with what she wanted to say.

"Well, they…" Nicki said and paused to take a short glance at her guides. When she got the message the Alpha wanted to see her, she expected it to be about last night but this was actually different. The look her guides were giving her right now was one piteous look as if she didn't say something positive about them concerning what the alpha asked, they would be beheaded.

"Well, Nicki?...." The Alpha reminded Nicki she was asked a question.

"They've been good, I mean like really good to me, Alpha. Just like everyone else says around here, they are literally the best guides one could ever wish to have and I'm grateful you sent me them" These were exactly the only words Hanna and Astrid needed to hear from Nicki that stopped them from collapsing.

She might think what she said right now was just an ordinary thing, but Nicki has no idea she didn't only save their lives but made them the proudest guides in history to ever govern students here.

"Is that so?, Are you sure of what you just said to me right now, Nicki Landon?" The Alpha wasn't quite pleased with Nicki's answer. He suspected something was up with her guides when he asked them a simple question like he asked her but they both failed to provide an answer.

"I'm quite sure, Alpha. I would never lie to you, you are my lifesaver, you are like my Lord?" Nicki stared at the Alpha directly in the face while letting him know this. Trust her when she says, the way she stood bold-faced making that lie up to him surprised her and not even she could explain how she was able to do it.

But not every part of what she said was a lie, her guides are actually pretty good. It was only Astrid that was a little pain in the ass but she covered up for her anyways.

The fact that Nicki wasn't scared of the Alpha's usual terrifying look and lied straight to his face without quivering was something else.

"Then why did you guys refuse to say something when I asked you how things has been going with her earlier?" The Alpha shifted his attention to Hanna and Astrid with a question that didn't come with the same calm voice he used on Nicki.

"Well…Alpha…" Hanna was still dumbfounded at Nicki lying to the Alpha's face but tried making something up to tell him. However, Astrid who was a sharper person took over from her and made known to the Alpha without quivering or feeling anxious for a bit.

Nicki removed the fear from her.

"Because we wanted you to hear it coming from her, Alpha. You still wouldn't have believed us if you didn't send for her and heard the words coming from her mouth directly" Astrid ended her sentence with a very bright convincing smile.

The Alpha believed her and then took a slight glance at Hanna before Nicki, who flashed him a shy smile and looked away to avoid his stare. It wasn't a healthy one.

"Okay, you guys can leave since everything seems to be good with you all. And make sure you don't forget to send her to me tomorrow after the early morning training to check on her wolf. Hope she has fed? and did she try transforming at any time?" The Alpha had a few more questions before Nicki and her guides could finally leave his presence.

"She has eaten quite a lot since she got here, Alpha. You have nothing to worry about. And about her wolf, it hadn't shown itself yet. I'm starting to doubt she's even turned" Astrid was the one giving answers to all the questions coming from the Alpha. Hanna still seems to be a bit shaken and unresponsive at the moment.

Nicki gave Astrid a questionable stare when she mentioned she had eaten quite a lot. By a lot, did she mean the little meal Ariana prepared for her last night that has been in her belly throughout today? And also the same food that happens to be the only thing she has eaten ever since she got here. But strangely, Nicki figured out she was barely even hungry yet.

"You can leave now" The Alpha let them go after hearing all he wanted from them.

Once outside the Alpha's chamber and far from it. Astrid shocked Nicki with an unexpected embrace of thanks.

"What you did there on our behalf was something I can't thank you enough for. I'm sorry I said certain awful things about you without even bothering to know the kind of person you are first. I guess I do now, can you forgive me for not being a guide but a b*tch instead?" Astrid pleaded for forgiveness from Nicki with open arms.

"Of course, you are forgiven. You are my guide, I could never hold a grudge against you" Nicki accepted the embrace.

"Thank you" Astrid thanked her.

"Thank you also for what you did there, Nicki. You are the best student we've ever had" Hanna wanted a hug from Nicki too and she gave it to her.

"Don't mention it" Nicki broke the embrace. "Now, can we go so you guys could help me find something to eat? I haven't actually eaten anything for real compared to what Astrid said in there"

"Right, sorry about that. I had to help save our ass and make Hanna able to forgive me for being a b*tch to her too. Come, let's go," Astrid led the way as they took Nicki to go find something for her to fill her belly with while holding hands as the best team they were.
