Chapter 42: 41 - Combat Exam 8

Victor's skills advanced quite quickly when compared to others, and that's without there being much of any information about death and Undeath magic.

This is just a peak at his ability to comprehend and understand information, this talent allows him to learn at a accelerated rate compared to others.

And luckily there still is a lot of information about dark magic which will allow Victor to advance his understanding of his curses and dark Magic after joining an Academy.

On the other hand spells can't be advanced in the same way as skills and Class abilities, as through the blessing of the Gods you can passive understand you abilities when used enough.

That's why there are well... Let's just say people who are all muscle and no brains that can still advance (level up) their skills.

This is especially the case for class abilities, even class spells can be advanced slowly through just use.

This part of the gods blessing to all intelligent races, but Victor hasn't learnt much about this as it's a level of higher education. (A.k.a will be explained at the Academy)

But one thing they've all been taught is that you can not advance your magic correctly through just use.

Instead you have advanced your mana control, your understanding of magic and finally learn the spells before you can use magic.

Yes if your understanding of a spell is deep enough and you have a strong enough foundation in magical Knowledge.

Then you'll be able to change a spell, like make a flame cold, increase the power, size or duration of the spell.

But fundamentally all you do is create a variation of a spell you already know.

So the only method to increase the strength of a spell is to either increase the purity of your mana. Or learn skills that increases the strength of certain types of magic.

There is only three ways to get new spells, the first method is through the use of skills books but this method only allows you to learn spells that are H, G or F Tier.

The next is the hardest and that's to either discover/create a spell by your self, this is done through you level of magical Knowledge and your understanding of magic.

As for the last way to learn new magic well that's simple through learning, as you can learn how a spell works, then use its chant to cast the spell.

But do be mindful as you can't just 'Learn' a spell, as you must first have a foundation of knowledge and then meet the requirements for the the spell.

Like for example I can't just learn a spell above my strength or understanding without any risk.

There is a reason why learning magic is said to be learning the rules of the world, and the greatest way to learn about the world.

And that's one of the reasons why Victor's talent is seen as greater than Michael's, as the pursuit of magic is just that hard.

But the rewards you receive is just as great if not more, and that's why top tier magic classes are seen as far stronger than warrior classes but that's for a later time.

Victor watched on only killing a monster now and then as he controlled his weak skeletons.

Victor knew that had too work harder than others from the get go but now that there was any information to learn about his class and magic type.

He knew he had an even tougher road ahead to catch up let alone surpass others.

Upon this thought Victor knew he couldn't just keep going at this pace then even if he made it into the Academy he wanted.

Deciding that he needed to start clearing dungeons for more loot, potential spell and skills.

Victor finished off the monsters before moving on, only this time not stopping to clear each area.

Victor stopped and looked over to his Familiar, he felt something but he couldn't put his finger on it, something just felt different about its mana.

So he left it alone for now, but little did Victor know he was in for a surprise later.

Stopping in front of his target Victor decided to clear it without his summons, so he pick normal difficulty to warm up properly.

[ Slime Forest - Lvl 10 to 15 ]

[ Normal, Hard, Nightmare ]

Entering the dungeon, Victor appeared in another forest only there wasn't the sound of wind swaying leaves or the sound of birds.

No it was dead silent as there was only Slimes within this dungeon, so a uneasy atmosphere covered the forest.

Uncaring Victor walked further into the forest in search of Slimes, Victor only kept his Familiar summoned to continue training, he soon came across his first Slime.

[ Forest Slime (Advanced) - Lvl 10 ]

The slime looked... Well like a slime, the size of a fully grown watermelon, the slime looked like watery green jello with a round stone floating inside of it.

Overall it didn't look scary or dangerous but... Well lackluster at best, which is quite the opposite reaction you think someone should have when seeing a monster.

Especially considering that most Slimes types are almost immune to pure physical damage if the core isn't destroyed.

But all low level slimes are just too weak, even if they can shoot acid at a target it only has a range of 1 meter.

So they aren't really taken seriously by new adventures, on the other hand high level slimes are as the amount of variations and types they come in is so large.

Hell Slimes can even mutate like other monsters, the only difference is that some slimes mutate to not have a core.

Which is quite the big deal as it is believed the core which holds it's mana is the thing that keeps it together and alive, as well as being a slimes only weak spot.

But none of this really affected Victor at this moment as there shouldn't be any slimes with high magic resistance here.

So he should be more then able to clear this dungeon by himself, with maybe a little difficulty with the boss.

But luckily Victor while researching the area and dungeons close to the city had learnt about this area.

The boss for this dungeon shouldn't be a problem for him in fact he might even be able to kill the boss without much effect, as the boss was a Wooden Slime.

Other than that there was only meant to be Forest, Earth and Water Slimes in this dungeon.

They are all pretty much the same outside of their respective projectiles and colour at this level.

So it shouldn't take more than a quick Undeath Flame to take out the weak ones, but Victor wanted to use his new spells to test them out and hopefully learn more about them especially the spell Air Bullet.

= Curse of Slowness =

| Curse of Slowness (Level 1): Curse a single target with Dark Magic making them 5% slower for 30 seconds |

Victor cast one of his brand new curses for the first time on the forest slime, a creepy black smoke appeared on the bottom of the slime.

"Air Bullet!" Victor followed it up by chanting his next attack, he let his mana flow with accordance of the spell, feeling his mana move into his staff as a simple Spell Circle was constructed in his mind according to the knowledge he got from his Girmoire.

Above his staff air was pulled into a ball by his mana before compressing into the size of a golf ball.

| Air Bullet (G): Create a ball of compressed air that shoots out dealing impact damage - Chant: Air Bullet |

Pointing his Staff at the slightly slower slime Victor let the spell go, sending it flying forwards at the slime.

"Woosh!" The Air Bullet impacted the slimes body pushing it apart a section of its body.

"Huh?" Victor became confused as the result was unexpected, before the exam Victor went online and search for a bunch of information that he could access.

And luckily for him he could find information on both Air Bullet and Small Flame spells, in the information was a demonstration of both spells, and Victor's didn't match what was shown.

Victor couldn't help but cheek if it was the same spell, and it was..... The spell wasn't too weak in fact it was the opposite, it was stronger than it was meant to be and this is without any enhancements.

Spells below E Tier aren't really seen as poper combat spells, instead because they are so weak and really ineffective compared to E tier and above they're seen as more of training spells.

Now the increase in strength isn't insane but it definitely is noticeable and on top of that it was a quarter the cost compared too his class spells.

Turning his attention back to the forest slime that was trying to rebuild itself, pulling over the parts that was spilt because of the Air Bullet.

Deciding to look further into this difference later Victor once again casted another Air Bullet only this time hitting it's core.

But still it wasn't strong enough to break it which made Victor a little disappointed.

But it was still expected, even if he was hoping that with its power upgrade it would be able too.

"If one won't then two, if two can't then three." Victor muttered to himself before another Air Bullet hit the poor slimes core.

Combined with the damage from the earlier attack the core shattered killing the poor slime.

[ Forest Slime Killed (Lvl 10) + 200 XP ]

( The { } is too similar to [ ] and ( ), so I am changing it to = =, I hope this change makes it better
