Chapter 23: Sore
"Hahahaha!" Yoruichi and Kisuke were bent over laughing while looking at Yami's swollen face. After he had gotten healed up in the 4th Division, Kukaku had brought him back for some 'special training' which was just her excuse to beat him senseless. And even though he tried to fight back, he was no match for the woman. Her zanpakuto was practically a cheat compared to other Shinigami since she had casual long-range attacks as well as the special techniques that were exclusive to the Shiba Clan.
'Damn, all of you.'
Yami looked at the pair laughing at him and felt annoyed. He was no match for either of them so he couldn't fight them and get them to shut up so all he could do was sit there and take it.
But as his eyes went over the top 3 of the Onmitsukido and his Division, he felt that he was lacking compared to the three of them.
Yoruichi was not only a Hoho and Hakuda master but she also invented her own technique that allowed her to fight on par with other captains without using a zanpakuto, Kisuke had invented several different kido that not even the commander of the Kido Corps could copy, and Kukaku had her special techniques that were also on par with captain's bankai while also having access to a bankai all of her own.
But the common thing among all of them was that they did not stick to the rules that other shinigami followed. They each had a special technique that put them on a level above others with similar reiatsu levels.
'What could I do though? Plain sword techniques seem lacking. Even if they helped me match Grimmjow, if he was any stronger, he would have killed me.
And no matter how I slice it, I will never be as fast as Yoruichi nor have anywhere close to her Hakuda skills. Sui-Feng is the better disciple compared to me when it comes to learning both of those.
Kido is decent but when it comes to Kisuke, Tessai, or Hachi, I don't think I can ever catch up to them with those.
That seems to put me back where I originally was with just sword techniques. But what can I do to improve those to the point where I can actually use something comparable to a zanpakuto's special ability?'
Yami was wracking his brain thinking about how he wanted to develop himself in the future. He knew that he could not stay in the Onmitsukido forever and he would also never allow himself to be below anyone else. But most importantly, he never wanted to run away from a fight or let an opponent leave as they pleased like what happened with Grimmjow and Cang Du.
So if he wanted that level of strength, he had to start planning his path soon.
Yoruichi stopped laughing when she saw that Yami was no longer paying attention to them and was instead in his own world. Kisuke and Kukaku also caught on before looking at Yoruichi and smiling.
'It seems like his little trip and the invasion have caused this brat to mature a bit. Soul Society will be going through many changes so he needs to be prepared.'

Author's note: This is the last 1/3 of the last chapter. Had to release that part early because I had to do some errands. And this is not a full chapter because it is time for a poll.
Timeskip over the training arc and slowly reveal his new skills or go through the training arc and see exactly what he does to match Shunko, Schriftts, and other similar techniques. Timeskip will be to Turn Back The Pendulum. And either way, his bankai isn't getting revealed officially until around the time the series starts.
