Chapter 2: Chapter 2

"Sir, you can stay here in this room. I'll deliver your dinner once it's prepared." Inos said as she led Xiao Quan in a old, unused room.

It was rusty and dusty. But, for Xiao Quan who had lived a fairly rich life since his birth, he didn't seem to mind the run down room at all.

He didn't judge the room and made faces upon being given such an old room. Instead, he was grateful for the kindness of Inos and her grandmother who trusted a stranger and let him stay over considering his situation.

"Thank you, Inos. I really don't have enough words to convey the gratefulness I'm feeling right now. I..." Quan expressed his thoughts as he bowed deep in front of the little girl.

Inos seeing a stranger bow in front of him was flustered as she took a few steps back. "Sir! Please don't do this! I only helped you because of my teachings. Please don't bow! You are belittling my kindness with this amount of gratitude."

Xiao Quan raised his head and smiled at the young girl. "I understand. But your kindness is not something that can be belittled by my gratitude, little lady. I am truly grateful, Inos. Grateful for picking up an unconscious me from the outskirts of the forest. I cannot imagine what could have happened to me if it was not you coming to my rescue."

Inos blushed at the compliment but quickly composed herself. "I'll go now and prepare your dinner. Please wait here. The towels are already present in the bathroom. You can freshen up. I have already asked the neighbor for some spare clothes. I'll go and fetch them for you as well."

Xiao Quan nodded and watched as Inos left the room, closing the door behind her. Leaving Linger in the room all by himself.

Alone in the room, Xiao Quan took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He couldn't believe how lucky he got to have been able to meet Inos and her grandmother after his transmigration. He knew he had a lot to do and plan, but for the moment, he was just grateful to have a safe place to stay.

He then took a deep breath as he walked into the direction of the bathroom. The door was old but it was sturdy. As Quan tried to open it by force at once, the door swung open as he lost his balance falling in the direction of the bathroom.

Fuck. That was the first thought that crossed Quan's mind as he prevented himself from falling flat on his face. He took a deep breath as he walked around the old bathroom, inspecting its condition.

When he was almost done, he came across a cracked dirty mirror as he looked at his reflection, his new face for the first time ever since he had transmigrated into this strange place.

A place with a name he could have only come across in those cultivation novels he used to read when he was 16.

Pale skin as of a ghosts. Hair disheveled. Eyes having dark bangs underneath them. Body thin, almost fragile looking, like a gust of wind could knock it over. The dark circles under those eyes hinted at lack of sleep. Lips were chapped and dry. But, despite the ghostly appearance, there was an air of mystery and intrigue surrounding the body- an aura that couldn't be suppressed.

As Xiao Quan stared at his reflection, a thought crossed his mind. Who was the person who resided in this body? And, why was this person lying on the ground at the outskirts of the forest?

But, before he could have thought about it any further. A sharp stinging pain hit his brain making him forget all about his thoughts as he held his hair in a tight grip.

"Ughh..." But as if it was a miracle the pain disappeared as soon as he stopped thinking about the previous resident of his now body.

He got rid of his clothes as hanged them so that they don't get wet. Then, he turned the rusted knob to make the shower pour on him. As the cold water hit his skin, he felt more relaxed than ever.

Finally as he finished freshening up, he walked out the bathroom as he couldn't help but think about his new life in this world. He had been transported from his old world into this new one without any warning or explanation.

What to do? Where to go? Who to be? How to fulfill everyone's expectations?

There was nothing expected from him this time unlike his previous life.

He was free to do whatever. No rules. No regulations. He just could pursue whatever he wanted.

But, to be this free. He needed to learn. He needed to grow.

For now, he was just a stranger in a new world, trying to understand the concepts of this unknown world. And he was grateful to have met kindhearted people like Inos and her grandmother.

As his body hit the coarse mattress of the dusty bed he felt uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable. But, there was nothing much he could do except lying down.

As he laid down on the bed with closed eyes, the things that happened to him within such a short span of time ran into his head over and over again.

"Help!" A scream made Quan eyes shot open as he sat straight on the bed.

Inos's scream!

As soon as his laid back mind recognized the owner of the scream, he immediately got up from the bed.

He rushed out of his room and ran towards the direction of the scream. He burst out of the small wooden cottage as he found Inos's fragile wrist held in a tight grip of a fat bald man. Tears adorned her fair face which now had a tinge on red because of the excessive crying. As his eyes wandered to the ground. He found Inos's grandmother lying down there.

Helpless.
