Chapter 12: Turf War III

Roberto had been shot in the thigh and was rooted in place behind a stack of crates. A few meters away from him, he looked at Carl who was laying in a pool of his own blood.

Carl struggled and looked in his direction, stretching his hand toward Roberto as if asking to pull him out from the jaws of death. However, the next moment, his arm limply fell down and the light in his eyes dimmed.

Roberto looked at Carl's face, which was full of fear and regret, and inwardly cursed, 'These fucking Buccanti bastards. Fuck!' He had come to this warehouse with a few of his crew members in order to make sure it was safe.

After all, it was the place where most of their important goods were stored. However, moments after they entered, they had been ambushed by twenty gangsters from the Buccanti family. He was the only one alive now, but the Rosettis had still managed to gun down six of the Buccanti gangsters.

Despite that, the Buccantis still had a dozen men remaining. They had come in full force trying to eradicate the control the Rosettis had in this neighborhood. And it seemed like the other gangsters from the Buccanti family had gathered here after clearing their targets.

Roberto overheard one of the enemies say, "Search the whole place. Make sure everyone's dead."

He cursed his misfortune as tears began to well up in his eyes. He thought, 'Am I… really gonna die?'

…...

In the dark of the night, David silently approached the warehouse. He took cover behind a truck and saw two men guarding the entrance. He muttered under his breath, "Looks like these bastards have taken over the warehouse."

He took out two throwing knives from the nylon sheath around his thigh and walked out from behind the truck. He looked at the two men and awkwardly smiled. "Guys, I think I'm lost. Do you know where the bathroom is?"

Before the two men could even respond, David had already thrown the knives accurately into each of their throats. Then he dashed toward one of them and stabbed him in the heart with his dagger, instantly killing him.

He took out the throwing knife from that man's throat and immediately threw it at the other person, nailing him right in the eye. After making sure both had died, he grabbed his knives and entered the warehouse.

After climbing one of the metal pillars inside and looking around, his eyebrows furrowed as he thought, 'Fuck, there are still ten more Buccantis in here.' He saw one of them slowly creeping toward the place where Roberto was resting and his eyes narrowed.

Roberto heard footsteps coming closer to him. He had run out of bullets and couldn't even move. All he could do was wait for his impending doom. He started trembling in fear as the footsteps got closer and closer.

A Buccanti soldier walked around the crates. Roberto saw him grinning as he raised his gun. However, the next moment, Roberto's eyes widened as he saw a figure jump down from above, right behind the soldier, and repeatedly stab him in the chest while covering his mouth.

Only after the figure silently laid the fresh corpse on the ground did Roberto see his face. David looked at him and brought his finger to his lips, then whispered, "Shhh…."

Roberto nodded, unable to hide his excitement. He knew that if there was anyone that could turn the tables, it was definitely David.

After gesturing to Roberto to stay put, David circled around the crates and approached his next enemy. His plan was to silently assassinate as many of the Buccantis as possible before they found him. Then, he would go all out.

With his enhanced senses, he heard another enemy approaching his direction. Right when the person turned around the pillar, David quickly covered the man's mouth and stabbed a dagger right through his chin and into his brain.

He coldly looked the man in the eye as life slowly seeped out of him. Within moments, the man had died and David softly placed him on the ground, then went to his next target.

Just like that, he was able to silently kill two more men before the Buccantis realized that something was wrong. One of the capos looked at the other and said, "Isn't it too… quiet?"

The other capo had a solemn look on his face. A foreboding feeling welled up in his heart and he instructed his men, "Everyone, stay on guard." At once, the remaining six men in the warehouse went on full alert.

David, who was standing over a corpse right behind a forklift, sighed. He took out his gun from the holster and confirmed that it was loaded. Then he let out a deep breath and his eyes gleamed with a menacing glint.

Less than a minute later, he heard two people coming in his direction. David patiently waited for them. Right when they were a few meters away from him, his eyes narrowed. He walked out from behind the forklift and shot the man in the front twice—once in the head and once in the chest.

BANG! BANG!

Alarmed, the second person raised his hand and aimed his gun at David. The youth did the same and both pulled the trigger at the same time.

BANG! BANG!

He shot the man right in the head, instantly killing him, while the man's bullet only managed to graze his arm. The entire time, David didn't even flinch. He then rushed toward a wall in front of him and took cover.

Earlier, he'd noticed that another person had come to the place he was fighting. But after hearing the gunshots, the man had taken cover behind the wall. The very wall that David was now standing by.

Both men knew that they were standing right beside each other with only a wall separating them. Without wasting a moment, David crouched and shot the Buccanti maggot right through the wall.

BANG! BANG!

"Aaagggghhh!!" The man was shot twice in the torso and fell to the floor, writhing in pain. David walked around the wall and calmly aimed his gun at the man's head.

BANG!

Nine dead; only three remained. David removed the empty magazine from his gun and reloaded it with a full one; he had made sure to get loads of ammo from Bobby. He then silently circled around the warehouse and approached the last three gangsters.

After hearing the series of gunshots, a Buccanti soldier was nervously walking through the warehouse, looking for the enemy. Just as he was about to turn around a pillar, he happened to see a shadow and opened fire.

BANG!

At the last moment, David managed to grab the man's hand and change the direction he was aiming at. However, the man was very strong and pushed David against the wall with sheer strength, then disarmed him.

Surprised, David looked up into the man's face. The next moment, his lips curled up into a malicious grin. "Didn't I tell you? If I ever see you here again, I'll fucking kill you."

"It's you!" the man said in shock. He was none other than the burly guy that David had fought at the auto shop a few months back. David didn't reply; instead, he raised his leg and kneed the man in the groin. The man's eyeballs nearly popped out of his head and he grimaced in pain.

David grabbed the man's hand that was holding a gun and repeatedly slammed it against a crate beside them, trying to disarm him.

However, the burly man didn't let go of his gun. Instead, he grabbed David's neck and thrust him against the wall. He pointed his gun toward David and fired.

BANG!

"Aarrrggghhhh!!!" David grunted in pain after being shot in the gut. A ruthless glint flashed across his eyes as he took out two throwing knives from the sheath around his thigh and stabbed both of them in the man's hand, causing him to drop his gun.

He then grabbed the man's arm and threw him over his shoulder, right on top of the crate. David grabbed a nearby sledgehammer, raised it, and viciously hammered it down on the man's head.

The burly man's head turned into a mangled mush. In a fit of rage, David was about to hammer him again, but right at that moment, he heard the sound of footsteps coming in his direction. Alarmed, he turned and saw the last two Buccantis aiming their guns at him.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

David instantly fled and took cover elsewhere. After creating some distance from his enemies, he looked at the bullet wound in his stomach that was profusely bleeding and then at the fresh bullet wound on his shoulder. He looked at the timer on the system's panel and gritted his teeth. "I can't die…. Not yet!"

He stealthily circled around the two remaining men. Right when he was a few meters behind them, he threw the sledgehammer that he was carrying in a random direction. Alarmed, the two men fired shots in the direction the sledgehammer fell.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

David took out four throwing knives and threw them at one of the men. Two of the knives stabbed him in the head, instantly killing him. David then charged toward the last person and took him down.

He first disarmed the man, then raised his hand and delivered a solid punch to his face. Before he was able to punch him again, the man grabbed his gut wound and twisted it. David groaned in pain and drew back from him.

The man walked toward him, sat on top of him, and began choking him. "DIE!!"

David had already been about to pass out from excessive blood loss, and now from the lack of oxygen. However, at the last moment, he managed to snap back to his senses. He raised his hand and punched the man in the throat.

Then he put the man in a triangle choke. The man continued struggling as he tried to escape from David's grasp, however, it was useless. David took out his last throwing knife and viciously stabbed it right on top of the man's head.

He then raised his arm and hammered his fist down on the top of the knife, driving it further down the man's brain. Instantly, the man's struggles ceased and he died.

David heaved a groan and tossed the corpse away. With great struggle, he got up to his feet, drenched in blood. He began walking toward Roberto, but only after a few steps, all the strength remaining in his body seeped out and he fell face-first to the ground.

A pool of blood began forming under him. On the verge of losing consciousness, he heard the sound of glass breaking, followed by a familiar voice. "Quick…."

That was the last thing he heard before passing out.

...

Right after David had killed the last Buccanti, Nico barged inside the warehouse only to be greeted by utter carnage. Just as he entered, he happened to see David falling to the floor.

Alarmed, he instructed the men behind him, "Quick, we need to get him to the hospital!"
