Chapter 3: Ghost Aunty

Chapter 3: Ghost Aunty.

coo..coo..

coo..

burble.....burble...

The morning sun cast a golden glow over the vast expanse of the forest, illuminating the lush greenery and majestic mountain ranges in the distance. Waterfalls cascaded down the rocky cliffs, creating a symphony of soothing sounds that blended harmoniously with the chorus of birdsong echoing through the air. Li Wei stood in awe, his camera poised and ready, capturing the ethereal beauty of Ji Jing Hills that surrounded him.

Click.

The shutter snapped shut, freezing a moment in time. Li Wei revelled in the serenity of the landscape. Holding a black Panasonic Camera, checking the shots and leaning against a rock, Li Wei looked like an immortal Elf king walking in the mortal realm. The moment of his smooth pitch black hair gently dancing to the tune of wind and his flawless face gently caressed by the morning breeze almost looked like the majestic hills were trying to please their lord.

"Ahhhhhhh...Huh...hmph"

The peaceful morning was successfully ruined and Li Wei finally directed his attention to his younger sister Li Mei, who was busy pacing back and forth trying to find signal for her phone. It has been hours since they have been struck in this place because their car engine got over heated. Li Mei frustation has already reached to peaks and now she was glaring at every poor thing in her line of sight.

"Sigh... Will you calm down. If we don't contact anyone for few more hours they will themselves start searching for us. It's not like we didn't inform anyone about where we are going."

"Gege, how much longer are we going to be stuck here? We've been waiting for hours!" Li Mei exclaimed, her voice filled with impatience.

Li Wei looked at her, a gentle smile gracing his face. "MeiMei. Someone will come find us soon. Till then enjoy the beauty around us while we can. You are scaring those little birds and animals."

Li Mei huffed, crossing her arms. "Beauty won't get us out of this mess. I've heard rumours, you know. People say there's a vengeful ghost haunting these mountains. It lures unsuspecting wanderers into its trap, never to be seen again. Do you think these little animals will come and save you then?"

Li Wei chuckled, his eyes twinkling. "Come on, Mei. You don't really believe in ghosts, do you? These are just tall tales."

"Gegeee... I am serious. Few years back few men came here and they never returned back. Even their corpses are nowhere to be found. From then on no one dared to enter these lands. I don't know why you thought of coming here. Hmph.."

"Well, whatever. Be happy that it is soon going to be dawn. At least there won't be any ghost haunting and hunting you till it's night again."

"Hmph. You don't need a ghost for that. I am already dying out of hunger. And who knows what all wild animals leave in this forest. Who knows if that ghost aunty has any pets. Wuhuu....."

"Sigh. Will you please shut up? And why did you declare the ghost to be a women?" Since there was nothing much they can do, Li Wei thought of entertaining his little sister in her nonsense talks. This was better than watching her pulling her hair out.

Li Mei's eyes narrowed as she glared at him. She came to him and slowly whispered into his ears.

"All the people who were reported missing in this place were men. And their bodies were not even found. I think the ghost aunty has some kind of fetish you know." She looked at him suggestively. Li Wei was speechless. Though he didn't believe in these stories he could help but look at himself.

'I am a handsome young man' Li Wei immediately shook his head and glared at his sister for putting those kind of rubbish thoughts into his head.

"Li Mei.. you..."

"GOOD MORNING LING YUE"

Good Morning Ling Yue...

Good Morning Ling Yue..

Good Morning Ling Yue..

"HAPPY EIGHTEENTH BIRTHDAY"

Happy eighteenth Birthday...

Happy eighteenth Birthday...

Happy eighteenth Birthday...

Both Li Wei and Li Mei jumped in their places and looked around. Li Wei was about to reprimand his sister when they suddenly heard an echo. They didn't expect this at all. But soon they were relieved that there was someone around and they could get some help.

Li Wei looked at his sister who was tightly clutching his hand. "Didn't you say no one dared to enter these lands?"

"Hahaha. You don't know this bro. But these days it is a trend to celebrate birthdays in haunting houses etc..etc.. This is also one of those popular cases..hahaha" Li Wei pursed his lips as he stared at her. Even Li Mei, who righteously defends her every nonsense couldn't make herself to imagine celebrating her birthday in a haunted house. Li Mei gulped at the thought and gave an embarrassed smile to Li Wei.

Li Wei sighed as he looked around. "Since we already know that we are not all alone, let us walk around a bit. Might be we can find someone."

"Hmm" They both soon started making their way on a stony path. They don't know where they were heading. They just thought it was better than sitting and doing nothing. Li Wei thought they would meet some travellers or tourists but even after walking for half and hour they met none. Slightly disappointed they thought of of returning back to their car.

Just as they were about to set off, a rustling sound erupted from the nearby bushes. Before Li Wei could react, a German Shepherd bounded out, wagging its tail with unbridled excitement. The dog leaped onto Li Wei, showering him with slobbery kisses.

"Hey there, boy!" Li Wei laughed, patting the dog's head. "Where did you come from?"

Li Mei watched with surprise. She thought that the ghost was finally going to grace them with it's presence. She patted her chest and looked at the dog "Well, isn't he a friendly one?"

Li Wei looked at the dog. It was well bred and though it didn't have a collar he can say that he has a owner nearby since a German shepherd was not a common breed in this area.

Li Wei looked around, searching for the dog's owner, but there was no one in sight. "I wonder if he's lost too. Perhaps he can lead us to someone who can help."

The dog seemed to understand Li Wei's words, as if comprehending their predicament. It bounded ahead, barking cheerfully, as if urging them to follow.

With the newfound canine companion leading the way, Li Wei and Li Mei ventured deeper into the forest. Li Wei was noticed that the dog didn't go along the initial stony path but rather diverted and walked confidently among the trees. The thick foliage enveloped them, creating an enchanting atmosphere that felt simultaneously serene and mysterious.

As they walked, Li Mei couldn't help but share more tales she had heard about the haunted mountains. She described how hikers would suddenly vanish, leaving no trace behind. Her voice wavered with a mix of fear and fascination.

Li Wei listened attentively, occasionally stealing glances at their four-legged guide, who trotted ahead with unwavering confidence. "Mei, let's focus on finding help rather than getting caught up in these rumors. We'll be fine."

Soon the mist around them cleared and they saw a vast clearing and a beautiful villa came into their sight. Both the siblings halted as they looked at the garden filled with flowers and the white marble villa ahead of them. The main door was opened and the dog happily walked to the door and started barking.

"Ahem..Gege..Is this the place where the ghost is going to butcher us. hmm? I think the gate will be closed once we step inside and these flowers turn into dead weeds, the villa into a haunted house. i think the dog is that ghost's pet. Ahhh..." Li Mei started pacing back and forth clutching her head.

"We were so easily lured into the trapped...Wuhuu" Li Mei started to imagine all kinds of scenes they were going to witness soon. A scary ghost, dead bodies piled up in some corner. Bones and skulls scattered hear and there. A dining table filled with different human organs and litres of blood to which they will soon contribute. She thought how she going to kick the bucket soon even before turning into an adult. She was going to die as a kid. No no, Li Mei could accept anything but the fact that she would cease to exist in this world as a kid.

She soon remembered that she was not alone and turned around to console her brother. As she turned around she saw her brother was standing there like a frozen statue. She followed his line of sight and was stunned looking at the main door. Her lips parted and she finally understood why her brother was standing there frozen.
