Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Training with M4
Both Anik and Jonathan said to Luna and introduced themselves to Luna and Holden.
"OK, since we have introduced ourselves. Let's get to the business. We are a five-member team that is newly formed. And our job is to recon the area for any useful gear, resources, water, etc.
The second team then picks up the resources we found after we clean the area of zombies."
Holden said to them.
"What if we couldn't kill the zombies? What are we gonna do then?"
Jonathan asked Holden.
"If we are unable to kill all the threats in the recon area, we have to bring another recon team with us after careful planning."
Holden said to Jonathan.
"When you rescued me, was that the two recon teams combined? And why did you pick up resources if the job of the resource collecting is of the second team?"
Anik asked Holden.
"Yes, Two recon teams were combined to make that team kill the zombies in the area we scouted before going through the residential area because the other roads were blocked. We have to clear the area of the road for safe travels and if the resources are limited, we can collect it."
Holden explained to Anik.
"We both have experienced the outside world, so you three will be under our care."
Luna said to them while pointing at her and Holden.
"Who leads this team."
Ace asked.
"Of course it's me."
Luna said to Ace.
"It's understandable. Since you are the strongest in this team."
Ace said to Luna, annoyingly.
"Hey, don't make that annoying face."
Luna said to Ace, and they started to bicker with each other.
Anik wanted to ask Holden about the statement Ace had made earlier.
"Yes, She is stronger than everyone here. Even stronger than Ace. Maybe not physically, but while fighting she can beat him easily."
Holden said to Anik while Jonathan was also listening.
"That's why he is so tolerant of her."
Jonathan said to Anik and Holden.
After bickering with Ace for some time, Luna told everyone to jump onto the jeep(Gladiator XMT).
"Where are we going?"
Ace asked Luna.
"We are going to the shooting range which is inside a bunker, you know why."
Luna said to Ace.
" Because it is soundproof."
Jonathan said, and Luna nodded.
"How big is the bunker."
Anik asked Luna.
"It's not that big, just 50 × 50 m and only one way in and out. So, it is not suitable for large populations. That's why we make it a shooting range."
Luna said to Anik while telling the front gate guard to open the gate.
"Well are going outside. Is the shooting range outside."
Jonathan asked Luna.
"Yes, it is 1 km away from the base camp. There is also a small base of ours to store resources."
Luna said to Jonathan while two soldiers jumped in the jeep as well.
"What resources?"
Jonathan asked.
Luna said nothing and just smiled.
After 5 minutes, they reach their destination. There was a small camp surrounding the bunker, which was only visible from inside the camp.
After entering the camp, all seven got out of the jeep and the two soldiers stayed there, and the 5 members went to the bunker.
Following that, they entered the bunker and Anik saw food, guns, ammo, metals, etc on one side of the bunker and the other side was the shooting range, but no one was shooting in the range.
"We make ammo but it is still hard to waste bullets on the shooting range."
Luna said to them.
"So, What will be our primary gun."
Anik asked Luna.
"Your primary gun is M4/M4A1 5.56mm Carbine. The M4/M4A1 5.56 mm Carbine is a lightweight, gas-operated, air-cooled, magazine-fed, selective rate, shoulder-fired weapon with a collapsible stock. It is now the standard issue firearm for most units in the U.S. military."
Luna said to Anik while taking out the M4 from one of the crates.
"Now, Watch carefully. I will show you how to shoot it.
First, Locate the charging handle, operating rod, or similar device. You will have to operate this to put a cartridge in the chamber, clear stoppages and clear the weapon (make it safe).
Then, Locate the magazine (often improperly referred to as a clip). Load it with cartridges, and insert it into the magazine well. Make sure it latches, or locks into place.
Subsequently, To make the weapon ready to fire, pull back the operating rod or equivalent. A round (cartridge) should feed up from the magazine. Release the handle, and the bolt should slam home, feed a round into the chamber, and lock into place. If you are not immediately about to fire, engage the safety catch. DO NOT touch the trigger until you are about to fire.
Hold the foreshock (barrel area, usually covered in plastic or wood) of the gun with your 'off' hand, or you can hold it close to the front end of the handguard for a more accurate shot.
Bring the butt of the gun to the front of your shoulder, between your chest muscle (or breast) and the front ball of your shoulder.
Tilt your head so the eye closest to the gun is looking straight down the top of the barrel.
Focus on the front sight. Squeeze the trigger slowly, without "dragging wood", that is, sliding it on the side of the grip.
*Bang*bang*bang*
For optimal accuracy, fire only at a certain point in your breathing cycle, e.g., when you have just breathed out. U.S. Marine training tutorials advise that single shots should be taken while holding one's breath for no more than 3 seconds.
Once you are finished, clear the gun. Plan your next target.
These guns are designed to put a bullet in the air in a short time, and if you are in a safe location, and have the ammunition, you may want to try some rapid-fire.
Whenever possible, always clean the barrel by inserting the cleaning rod into the breach (back) of the barrel, not the muzzle (front).
