Chapter 12: Chapter 12

(Drakos POV)

When we headed out of the village, a little girl showed up. The little girl looked at Kassandra, saying, "You… you didn't save them? What about Kynna? She's my friend!"

"I know you're sad about Kynna – it's a big loss. But look around you. You want it to be like this everywhere?" Kassandra answered.

"No… But maybe Kynna would get better. They could be wrong about her!" The little girl said sadly.

"And maybe the sickness would take the family tomorrow. It's impossible to tell."

Folding her arms and sounding more downcast, the little girl said, "I hope you're right."

Kassandra crouched before the girl, saying, "Sometimes, good people die, Phoibe. No matter how much we don't like it."

"I know… I just wish it wasn't true." The girl named Phoibe said on the verge of tears.

Phoibe then turned around, heading back to Sami. I then looked at Kassandra, looking at the girl's back sadly.

Putting my hand on her shoulder, I tried to comfort her by saying, "She will be all right. I guess she has been with you for a while now. And if any of your strength rubbed off on her, she will be all right.

She then looked at me, smiling, "You are right. She will be all right. Thank you."

Stunned by her smile, I spoke of what was in my thoughts at the moment, "You are gorgeous when you smile. You should smile more."

Realizing what I said, I looked away in embarrassment. I started to walk ahead so she would not see my face. Thinking, 'I can not believe I said that. This is what happens when you never had a girlfriend before and are now talking to a very charming woman.'

However, I did not realize that my statement shocked Kassandra. She just looked at me walk away for a moment before catching up.

When we got to our horses and mounted them, Kassandra looked at me, asking, "Before we go to Markos do you mind if we take a detour? I have a thorn in my side that I need to take care of."

"No problem with me," I answered her.

We then took off riding, me following Kassandra to where she was heading. Heading north up the island, I noticed we entered a lumber camp.

Unable to contain my curiosity, I asked, "Why are we in a lumber camp?"

"This is the base of a mercenary on this island that has taken up a bounty on my head. His name is Talos the Stone Fist. I have come to take his head before he takes mine."

"Oh… This is going to be fun to watch." I said with some excitement about the show I was going to watch.

She looked at me, asking, "You are not going to help me?"

"If you ask me, I will. Do you want me to help you?" I responded to her question.

"No, I want to do this myself." She said, smiling and a gleam in her eye.

Dismounting our horses, I followed Kassandra deep into the lumber yard. When we approached a man that I would assume is Talos. I hear Kassandra yell, "Talos, let's get this over with."

She then charged him like a mad bull with her weapons pointing at him like horns. She was able to pierce him, but the man was resilient. He swung his sword at her to make her move away.

It worked. She took a couple of steps back to dodge the attack but then kicked him right in the abdomen, sending him back a few steps.

Before he could regain his balance, she attacked him with a storm of sword swings. Giving him some credit for his fighting skills, he was able to dodge or block quite a few attacks. The attacks that did hit were only scratches.

Kassandra swung wide, which was a mistake because Talos parried her attack and punched her right in the face. Most likely breaking her nose in the process.

Stumbling back, she then dodged an attack by rolling back. Getting back up, she charged him again like a raging bull, but Talos dodged the attack this time.

The duel was great to watch, and Kassandra was quite skilled too. Seeing her fight reminded me even more about my teacher. When I was taught how to fight by her while living in Greece, she fought just like Kassandra is now.

I could even see a smile on Kassandra's face. The smile grew more prominent with every sword swing that drew blood. I was mesmerized by her beauty. Somehow, even the blood that collected on her body only enhanced her charm.

While I was charmed by her, the fight finally came to an end, with Kassandra piercing her sword and spearhead in Talo's throat. She then proceeds to swing her swords to behead Talos.

The head rolled over to me only to stop when it touched my feet. I did not even bother looking at the head because all my attention was on Kassandra.

She looked absolutely gorgeous, like a fallen red angel of war with blood of her own and the enemies on her. When she walked over to collect the head at my feet, I could not help but grab her and press my lips against hers.

Shocked, she tried to pull away, but with the blood loss and the adrenaline stopping after the fight, she could not resist my advance. I then held her by the waist so our bodies were touching.

After a moment, I felt her arms wrap around me, and she started to kiss back.
