Chapter 14: Chapter 14

(Author's Note: Bonus chapter 4/13 for the week. Okay, since we have now hit ten bonus chapters, I will increase it to 10 bonus chapters from now on. I did not expect the first day I would get swarmed. Thank you so much for the support.)

(Kassandra POV)

I was sad that Drakos had to leave, but at the same time, I was relieved at our separation. Ever since that kiss, I did not know what to think.

I decided to clear my head of these thoughts when I saw the abandoned house that Markos talked about. I could see people patrolling the house, and the people looked experienced.

Before getting any closer, I dismounted so they would not see me come. I crouched down and sneaked up to the house.

Creeping up to the wall, and found a crumbled side with one of the patrols standing. I crawled up and stabbed my sword at him before dragging him over the ledge to fall.

Noticing someone coming, I snuck into a bush nearby and whistled to get his attention. He started walking over to me, and when he got close enough, I stabbed my spearhead into his throat so that he could not scream.

I dragged him into the bush so no one would see his dead body. But before I could walk away, another patrol approached the exact spot where I killed the first person.

Trying to kill him before he saw his dead companion, but I was too late. I jumped down the crumbled wall and investigated how he died.

Sneaking up to him, I tried to kill him by plunging my sword into his throat. However, he sensed something behind him and dodged.

He was still stabbing his shoulder but not killing him in one blow. We had a small fight before I had my spearhead in his throat when he was distracted trying to call for help.

Thankfully no one was alerted, and I continued sneaking through the house grounds. I saw another partol and whistled him over.

When he got close, I grabbed his arm and threw him over my shoulder—then I proceeded to stab my sword in his throat also.

I then snuck over to the last patrol and stabbed him through the back. He did not die, and when I was going to finish him, someone came out of the house.

The man walked up to the dying man, took his sword, and cut his throat. He then put down the sword and looked at the blood spilled on him.

"I normally have someone else do the fieldwork." He then looked at me, continuing, "I don't suppose you know how to get this stain out."

"It comes with the territory," I said.

"Then you're just the misthios I'm looking for." He said, walking a bit closer to me.

Looking around at the dead bodies, he said, "A clean slaughter. Very good work."

"Not much sympathy for the men who work with you." I could not help but say.

"Not with me, for me. Employees. Now ex-employees, I suppose."

"So, you don't work for the Cyclops?" I asked, scratching my head at the situation.

"Your kind aren't usually believers of myth."

"Not the monster, the man. You are an outsider. Why are you here?"

"Indeed, I'm not from Kephallonia. I'm here because what I'm looking for is."

Walking past me, he said, "If you'll follow me Kassandra."

I turned around in surprise that he knew who I was. He started to walk away toward the beach. I was so curious to know how he knew me that I followed him.

Getting to the beach and stopping close to the water, I asked, "Who are you? How do you know my name?"

"I am Elpenor of Kirrha. How do I know your name? I did what you did. I asked, and people told me."

"Tell me who sent you."

"An inquisitive nature – good. That will help."

"You know more than you let on." I said to him.

"Knowing you is in my best interest. And knowing me is in yours." He answered back.

"My prized possession was stolen and brought to Ithaka. Penelope's woven shroud. I need you to steal it back." He told me.

"The shroud of Penelope? The wife of Odysseus? You're joking." I asked surprised at what he said.

"A piece of it, yes." He said calmly.

"Impossible. If it existed, it would be priceless."

"Which is why I want it back."

"Ithaka is not a small island. I need more information." I told him.

"I'd start at the home of Odysseus. Well, what's left of it. An inspiring tale. A reunion of past lovers."

"All right, I'll do it."

"Don't expect it to be easy." He said.

"That's why it will cost you."

"Then it's agreed. There's a rowboat in the harbor. Use it. It's not meant for open water, so be wise. When you have the shroud, meet me in the temple of Zeus."

"I will."

While he was walking by me, he said, "Oh, and misthios… Don't fail." Then he proceed to walk away.

I thought for a second and decided to do this tomorrow morning. Heading back to where I left Phobos. When I found him I mounted him and rode to Drakos' base.

When I got to the valley opening I was about to ride in when I was stopped by some guards.

"Halt, Why are you here?" One of the guards spoke.

"I am here to see Drakos. My name is Kassandra."

"Wait here while we let him know." The other guard said while the one who spoke earlier ran back.

It did not take long before I saw Drakos coming with the other guard.

"Welcome Kassandra. Follow me, I'll show you to a room you can stay at. Then you can tell me how everything went."

We then proceed into the valley.
