Chapter 9: Chapter 9

-[Enoch]-

Standing in front of the sentient computer that was key to bringing about his goal of human supremacy, he had a small frown under his mask.

The knights he sent to pick up the recruits found nothing. The knights who were assigned the task were nowhere to be found. Even the crate of armor and weapons were nowhere to be found.

The thought of a betrayal crossed his mind but he waved it off instantly. Every knight was sworn to their cause, there was zero chance that they could have a traitor.

But that also raised the question; what happened?

He idly wondered if Providence had something to do with it. Logically, they'd be the only organization capable of making that amount of people quietly disappear but that also raised more questions.

How did they know about the recruitment?

He doubted that Providence's 'Secret Weapon' had anything to do with it. The abomination was a train wreck wherever he went but the warehouse had no signs of damage.

Nevertheless, he made the appropriate adjustments to the plan. He had moved from the forever knight castle to the village where the tower was being built, taking a large number of his men with him.

If Providence was really behind it, then there was a slight chance that they could know about the tower. He couldn't allow them to ruin his plans of utilizing Zag RS.

The engineers/slaves were forced to work harder and his knights patrolled the borders of the village in case Providence arrived.

The sound of clanking armor drew his attention from his musing as a knight ran into the tower. "I specifically instructed that I was not to be disturbed." Enoch said in irritation.

"Forgive me, sir. There's an intruder in the village. I don't think he's from Providence." The knight said hurriedly.

"Just one person? I hope you didn't disturb me because of one intruder." Enoch spoke in a questioning manner, rendering the knight silent.

Sometimes he wondered about the intellectual ability of his subordinates.

Seeing that the knight didn't speak, he sighed almost exasperatedly. "Dispose of it quickly and get back to work."

"That's the problem, sir. We can't stop him."

What was this fool talking about?

-[Kenneth]-

'I don't think they're too happy about me being here.' He thought as he dodged the energy sword that swung through where he previously stood.

His mana empowered fist sent his attacker down to the floor as Kenneth rolled into a flip, evading another energy sword.

-[You have defeated your opponent.]

He jumped into a high kick, sending a knight stumbling back into other knights. Not waiting for his opponent to get his bearings, he rushed forward, [Power Strike] distorting the helmet as his fist smashed into it.

-[You have killed your opponent.]

-[Level up!]

Despite how many of them he knocked out/killed, they didn't stop attacking. He doubted they even recognized that their comrades were dead. That was his second level-up since the fight started.

-[Skill 'Unarmed Combat Proficiency' has leveled up!]

He was a lone individual fighting multiple armed and armored individuals. He'd be personally offended if the skill didn't level up at least once.

'If guns won't do…' he thought, dodging a slash from behind. He lowered his fist with mana, biting his fist into the knight's temple, quickly grabbing the energy sword before the man fell unconscious.

-[You have killed your opponent.]

Or dead.

'Head injuries are really scary.' He quickly realized as he raised the sword to block an attack.

With no skill whatsoever, he parried the next slashes with the gracefulness of a bull in a marketplace.

It was only his superior speed and perception that allowed him to dodge the next slash, slipping into the knight's guard and thrusting the energy sword into his gut.

There was no notification but the knight went down.

-[Skill Gained 'Sword Proficiency']

This blatant display didn't stop the other knights from rushing forward. He mixed in the use of the stolen sword and [Power Strike], taking down the next sets of opponents that came his way.

-[You have killed your opponent.]

-[Level up!]

He let out a breath as he retracted his fist from the caved helmet. He mentally reiterated the fact that the system seemed to be encouraging him to kill, seeing as how killing his opponents granted him more Exp.

He waited as no more knights were left standing. With the knights occupied during the fight, a good number of the villagers had run away the moment the fight started.

Up ahead, at the foot of the tower, he could see a number of the knights gathering up as well as a certain knight with a golden mask and a crown in front of them.

'Enoch. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.' He thought as he pulled up his stats.

'I managed to not get hit this time.' He acknowledged. 'Or maybe it regenerated sometime during the fight…'

He quickly allocated his points to the desired stats, feeling a sense of urgency.

Feeling the changes take place, he rushed forward, taking joy in his new speed. It didn't take him long to get to the tower, now standing in front of the assembly of knights.

Enoch stood in front of all of them. "So, you're the one causing this disturbance. How undeniably underwhelming."

"I aim to please." Kenneth replied with a small smirk that didn't amuse the knights.

"You would be wise to join me. What we are doing here will change the world. With your skills, you could become a ruler in this new era I will usher in." Enoch offered.

Kenneth's brow arched a bit. "Hard pass. Besides, didn't you just call me underwhelming a few seconds ago?" He asked, giving the shameless knight a dry look.

"Well then, you are of no use to me." Enoch said, signaling for the knights to attack as he retreated into the formation.

Just as they ran forward, Kenneth's eyes widened a bit before leaping backward. Less than a second later, something fell from the sky, landing explosively between him and the knights.

*Boom!*

Landing in a crouch, he frowned as a piece of debris grazed his side. The dust quickly settled as he saw what had landed in front of him.

A boy his age with giant mechanical legs stood in the small crater, a smirk on his face. "Anyone order a hero?"

'I am not amused.'

-[Six]-

He frowned in frustration as he watched from his jump jet how Rex would no doubt make a large disturbance with his landing.

Sometimes he wished the kid would proceed orderly.

Piloting the jet closer to the ground, he breached the field and saw the unconscious forms of these 'Forever Knights'. Had Providence not known the exact location, they would never have known it was hidden with a cloaking field.

These knights weren't exactly the subtlest of people.

His eyes narrowed, noticing the death wounds on some of the knights. He was an assassin before his time at Providence so he wasn't bothered by it.

What concerned him was what caused it. It was no doubt human but it raised the question of who exactly was after these forever knights as well.
