Chapter 35: Day BuN - The New Bunny

A dark hallway with vague lighting. Vanessa was used to it. Flashlight in hand, Fazwatch on too, she had no problem manoeuvring down this hallway. Why exactly the lights had been taken out was a mystery to her but it was only one hallway. Probably something to do with the new technician screwing with the animatronics. Lots of things had changed under that new technician's watch. For one, the maintenance bots all had their 'evil faces' on. It was almost Halloween anyways. What better way to scare the kids.

Normally she would have a mental map going of where the animatronics were though in recent times it had become unnecessary. None were really acting up, rather none of the main were acting up. Sun/Moon had been really weird lately, though they never left the daycare so it mattered little. The new technician was dealing with that 'case' anyways.

She continued strolling along the pitch black hallway, moving her flashlight onto the walls and occasionally doing a 180 with it, just to make sure nothing lurked around. Though she wasn't scared anymore she knew she at least needed to be careful. The hallway was just located behind Chica's Bakery, in the backrooms of the kitchens and maintenance.

She wondered how it would have looked in the day, if people would have just been running through this hallway aimlessly, bumping into each other because some knob took out the lights. She chuckled at the thought of it. No, that's why they always did this at night.

As she continued it the question arose as to why she was even patrolling. After all, between that new technician, the Fazbear 5 and the bots all patrolling did she really need to make rounds. At best she should be in the security hub watching.

The hallway was as many of the others ones were. Rubbish bins, spare part carts, cardboard boxes, whatever it was they stored here and more. Being close to the bakery also meant spare pots and pans, serving carts and boxes of what she hoped didn't contain expired food

Exposed piping also made itself visible, going alongside the tops corners of the hallway, occasionally ducking and weaving. A metal cage, extending indefinitely down the hallway existed too, large blue, red and green wires held up by it. At the very least she knew it contained the network, the way she could communicate with the animatronics and surrounding staff.

Something crunched behind her. She turned back quickly, light flashing the sound's origin. Nothing. A strewn piece of paper that must have been blown asunder by the heat vent.

She let out a sigh. Halloween. All the strange things going on the plex recently and the bots faces, she deduced it could've been some new 'spooky' protocol that technician implemented.

"Yeah, let's hope so." Vanessa muttered as she turned around. Her hope was smashed as she froze up, seeing what waited for her at the end of the hallway.

At the end of the hallway stood a little girl. Vanessa's eyes widened in horror and her voice tightened. The girl stood solemnly. She wore a red sweatshirt, snowflake patterns on the bottom and a blue and green star on her chest. She wore jean shorts and purple leggings, light purple running shoes that lit up as she idled.

Vanessa's first instinct would have been to:

A: Ask the girl what she was doing here.

B: Ask where her parents were, if she was lost, etc.

However, neither question arose as something stood out about the girl. Two key things that actually gave Vanessa terror, not just her light-up shoes.

The girl wore a face mask of a bunny. And not just any cartoon rabbit. The face mask, Vanessa had no doubt about it was that of Vanny, the same 'hypnotic' rabbit that she herself has fought with. The same one was that supposed to be destroyed. Vanny was dead, no thanks to the near destruction of the plex and several decommissioned band members.

It couldn't have been. She had been told and, paranoia aside, even checked the security footage. Monty destroyed it. And the rest of the suit she remember it lighting up in flames. The incinerator burned it to nothing. She remembered that night vividly, her boss standing behind, ready to grab her in case she tried to stop the cremation.

Vanny. Was. Dead. It wasn't possible what stood in front of her.

To make matters more concerning, the girl was wielding a kitchen knife. Though she had no proof, the sharp blade and black handle made her think it the same one she herself had wielded. If so, then this had to be a hallucination, she decided. Yes. There is no way this girl was real. She couldn't be real. She must not have been real.

She could not have been real.

The girl's head mere cocked slightly, looking at Vanessa in perplexity. "W-who are you?" Vanessa asked. Her throat felt full, she struggled to even get those words out.

She saw it now. The mask had those same glowing red eyes. It had to have been the same one. The girl stepped forward.

"S-STAY BACK! I'm warning you!" Vanessa heard herself scream.

The girl did nothing but step forward again, raising her knife. It didn't matter to Vanessa if this were a practical joke, hallucination or actual girl standing there. She ran, panicked and heart beating rapidly.

It didn't take long to leave the hallway, ending up somewhere in the maze of the backrooms. At least the lights were on here. She turned back after having enough space, seeing that the girl was no longer there.

"Perhaps." She muttered as she tried to stop the incoming panic attack. "Just my imaginagi-" She stopped, tensing up. The pipe on the ceiling rattled, something scampering inside.

She was in the vents. Another scream as Vanessa bolted back towards the dark hallway, thinking only that she needed to get away.

Her scream didn't go unheard as her Fazwatch lit up. A call was coming in. She didn't immediately answer it, the possibility of it being 'Vanny'. Though while she thought it, she couldn't resist answering it.

"Vanessa! Are you okay?" It was Chica. That's right! She recalled Chica being present in the bakery earlier. Something about having some issues baking.

"Chica! Where are you? I need your help. There's some-" The pipe burst open, the girl wielding the knife, lunging at Vanessa. She barely got of the way, dropping the flashlight. It proved a correct move as the girl's knife plunged right into flashlight, putting out the light it emitted.

"I need help. We got a code red!" Vanessa shouted, without waiting for Chica's response. "I'm on my-"

"JUST STAY THERE!" Vanessa screamed through the watch. Chica replied with something but Vanessa paid no attention to her. Her mind was on escape right now. She ran past the girl, he knife already out of the flashlight, now focused back on Vanessa.

The bakery. The bakery. The bakery. Vanessa repeated it in her head and started running towards there. She just hoped that Chica could stop her. They were more durable to direct stabs

Though if that girl was actually Vanny, then her being able to control Chica could've been a possibility. She prayed she was wrong, still holding onto the shred of hope the girl was just an illusion.

Her mind went into full flight mode, not even noticing the running out of breath. Adrenaline powered her as she ran faster than she knew she could, occasionally hitting an abandoned cart or misplaced box. Eventually she found herself in the kitchen, not noticing the smell of cookies, some of the ovens on or even a few bots tending to the various stations, no doubt under Chica's command.

She nearly got a heart attack seeing their twisted faces however, just remembering seconds after that was intentional.

Her eyes darted around looking for any sign of the girl. She hadn't gotten ahead, if she was even pursing Vanessa still. "CHICA!" She shouted to the kitchen. The bots didn't pay her any mind and no response came. She ran out of the kitchen, pushing aside the doors, entering the bakery. The door slammed behind her, Vanessa immediately getting ready to start moving tables and chairs to barricade.

"Citizen!" A feminine voice called. It nearly made Vanessa jump, instinctively aiming her flashlight at it. Though, she would have, if she still had it. She just aimed an empty hand at the person.

One of the animatronics stood in front of her, looking concerned. It was one of the band members, at least, officially.

A feathered animatronic wearing a cloth face mask and outfit, just barely hiding her aerobic attire underneath. She had a dark blue cape on, as did the mask and leggings. She posed heroically.

The White Winged Avenger. The superhero of the plex!

Vanessa knew from the start who it was, though some chicken playing superhero was the least of her concerns. She collapsed, falling to the ground as her tire caught up with her.

The Avenger went to help her up, Vanessa allowing it. The Avenger placed her in a chair. "What happened?"

As Vanessa collected herself she tried to find the words. "Some crazy **** attacked me! And she had the mask! SHE HAD THE MASK!"

The Avenger looked at Vanessa awkwardly. "What mask?"

"The-The mask?" Vanessa paused, still panting. It occurred to her Chi-The Avenger didn't actually know about Vanny, or at least not as much as the others.

"I gotta call the technician. Just. Just watch for a little girl in a rabbit mask. D-Don't uh, don't look in her eyes."

"Um. Sure citizen!" The Avenger said professionally. "I will keep watch for evil-doers!"

Still shaking from the panic she started dialling her watch. As it rang, it listed "HEAD TECHNICIAN" and "DAYCARE" as the location.

"Y-"

"Vanessa! I can't-ARGH" The technician shouted. Based on what Vanessa heard from the other end someone was struggling. "Hand me the rope!" The technician shouted at someone.

"Do you have a second?" Vanessa asked, still full of worry. She almost said something but got cut off again.

She could hear Sun or Moon shouting from other line. Whatever was going on in the daycare was just as bad.

"Look. Whatever you're dealing with you gotta do on your own. Call me later. We've got it big enough problems here already!" The technician said. "DAMMIT STAY DOWN! MONTY GET OVER HERE!" The technician shouted. Monty's trademarked roar was heard next as the technician hung up.

Vanessa groaned, doing another quick check that girl wasn't around. With the technician out she started to think who else was present. Just to make sure that wasn't some prank. She hit her Fazwatch, the locations of all 7 animatronics popping up. Nobody beside 'The Avenger' was in the bakery. With at least one ally around she stood up.

"Avenger!" Vanessa said, starling the superhero. "We gotta get to the security hub. Now."

"What's wrong?"

"We might have to put this place on lockdown. There's something fishy going on."

An excerpt from Pop Goes the Balloon. The second part of the whole FNAF story. Though I have the outline completed don't expect for it to come out till early next year. For now I want to finish the Friday Night Funkin story I've been posting first. Here's just a little preview for Halloween. Next time I update this story will be an announcement that it's begun serialization. Be sure to follow to know when!

I was going to tease the cover but I'm still having trouble making it. Made this instead. Here's a little teaser of what's to come.

Happy Halloween!
