Chapter 99: Something to Look Forward to

“Why not take care of me instead?” Ryan joked lightly and approached his lover in a relaxed saunter.

The former Sixth Prince gave Joan’s stressed shoulders a squeeze and then kissed her forehead. “I much prefer having you here by my side instead of elsewhere, Joan.”

“You know what I mean…” Joan blushed, her cheeks turning a delicate shade of pink.

“I understand.” Ryan chuckled and his blue eyes twinkled with mischief. “Of course, I do. It just occurred to me, however, that this Steward Lewis has a lot to prove to us. I am sure that he already knows the length that you would go through, as well as mine, if he were to find himself betraying me. Only a fool would think of underestimating us.”

Joan stared at Ryan’s expression and knew that it was true.

Ryan’s face might look like that of an angel's, as if coming down from the Divine, but on the rare times when his expression was dark, serious, and protective, one would instantly see that they had messed with the wrong person.
