Chapter 31: Chapter 30
POV Mike
The trail had led to the supposedly abandoned West Virginia Ordinance Works outside of Point Pleasant West Virginia. Mike looked at the others before stating that they needed a boat. Miss Martian offered to fly ahead, but Mike shot that down. "I know you can handle yourself, but we have no idea what's there. We do know that thwir probably waiting on us. we need to stick together. Even if they know we are coming, they can't monitor the whole swamp. We will get a boat and try to approach the base from a less crowded direction. First, though, let's lose the tails. Can you create an illusion in their minds? Trap them for a while till we can get a head start?"
Megan nodded she had not thought of the people having a countermeasure against her. Made sense, though, in a world full of telepaths. She trapped the three in a subtle issution, nothing to fancy, just that they continued to monitor the group and give updated to their leader.
The team worked quickly from there. Logan, Kitty, and Megan went to secure a boat. Mike and Cassandra contacted oracle for a up to date map of the area. They found an out of the way place to launch the boat that would hopefully keep themselves out of sight.
By the time their followers learned they had been duped, the team had an hour lead on them. They got to the area, and they decided and launched the boat out into the swamp. They elected for a small outboard motor because as Wolverine said "I weigh 300 lbs if we find this kid she will have at least 150lbs due to the metal I don't feel like paddling that around a freaking swamp." A sentiment that the others could agree with.
As the day wore on, they had explored 6 abandoned TNT bunkers and not found a trace of anything at the base being used in at least 30 years. Midway through the afternoon, as they were getting frustrated, they hit paydirt. A retinal scanner in old barracks. Kitty and Miss Martian phased them through one at a time.
After they got in, they found d themselves in a high-tech bunker. Moving quickly and quietly, they avoided what personnel they could and used Miss Martians' abilities to slip by the others. they found an office that looked really important.
Cassandra hacked in and found their objective. Looking through the rest of the files, her blood ran cold, though. [What the hell ate these idiots thinking?] She thought over the telepathic link that Miss Martian had created. [What have you found?] Mike thought back, wondering what could be worse than a Wolverine clone. [These morons have the one we seek named her X23. However, they also have 2 Superman Clones 1 Supergirl Clone, and something referred to as clean slate protocol is being housed here. If something went wrong, the entire state could be wiped off the map.]
Mike's blood ran cold. [Miss Martian get out of here get back to the surface call in the League use the signal Batman gave us!] Mike thought. Miss Martian left to go call in backup. [The rest of us will move quick, Logan can you track your clone?]Mike said [Yeah bub I can track her what are you going to do when we find her? Handle this wrong and shit will hit the fan quick.]
About then the alarms started blaring."About time I was tire of sneaking around." Wolverine growled before attacking the Gaurds. The others joined un and began to fight their way towards the clones.
POV Eiling
Colonel Eiling was furious. First that brat almost got him thrown in jail. Then he was demoted from a general to a Colonel and placed at this base. He was told to stay out of sight and make sure the eggheads were doing their jobs. All because of that brat.
Then Milo and Hamilton convinced him that X23 needed a field test. Killing 2 birds with one stone, they sent X23 to steal Morganrote nanotech in hopes it would help with cadmus projects. Now, that kid showed up with a team of superheroes and was moving towards the clones.
(Wait, that works) Eiling thought, "Wake up all 3 clones." The others looked at him like he was stupid. "Well? I said, "Wake them up."" Dr Hamilton and Dr Milo agreed and woke up the 3 giving the orders to capture the intruders at all costs. The clones began to move forward without emotion to fulfill their directives.
