Chapter 44: A visit from an old friend Part III

“Richard Vyfe, my father’s friend on the research team?”

“Yes, you finally remembered.” He smiled, chuckling as I frowned. As far as I remember, Richard was my father’s friend when he was a teenager. They later worked in the same research center before my father resigned to build EDS and cut every tie that family or friends could trace back to him.

When I went on shore, I would meet him regularly, except when my father died…

There were no traces of him at my parents’ funeral.

“I’ve always wanted to meet you. I had people searching for where you had disappeared to for a long time.”

“I never imagined you’d be at the research center. I thought it had been destroyed.” He placed his hand on my arm and squeezed gently like he had sympathy for me. I looked at his hand. His warmth did not seem to reach his heart. Someone who could smile when his own personnel died was not a good man in my book.
