Chapter 50: Chapter 50 - Sports Festival Arc VIII
Momo and Mina were standing in the ring facing each other. Momo didn't want to drag this match out. She could easily defeat Mina. However, Mina's quirk made her a dangerous opponent at close range. Midnight asked if the two girls were ready. Momo nodded calmly. Mina, on the other hand, looked worried. She didn't want to use her acid against humans.
Midnight didn't hesitate and cracked her whip. Momo immediately used her Quirk and created a suit that covered her whole body. The suit was black. Since she could create from any part of her body, she created the outfit to cover her body. This resulted in a black, plastic-like suit underneath the sports tracksuit she was wearing.
When Mina saw Momo move, she gained confidence. It was obvious to her that Momo had created the suit to protect herself from her acid. This caused her to attack. She immediately started running, then produced acid from under her feet. Sliding on the acid, he intended to attack Momo.
When Momo saw Mina rushing towards her, she immediately made a plan. When Mina was just a metre away from Momo, she jumped up and kicked Momo. Momo had expected the kick to come when Mina started to jump, so she immediately dodged to the side. But Mina guessed that Momo would dodge her attack. So she sprayed acid in the direction Momo was running. Even though Momo saw the acid coming, she couldn't avoid it because she was moving.
"Your reflexes are better than mine, that's for sure," Momo said aloud. Meanwhile, Mina was returning to where Momo was glued to her. "But this isn't my first rodeo," Momo said as she dropped a flashbang grenade on the ground. Before Mina realised what had happened, she had lost her vision. As soon as Momo dropped the flash grenade, she started to create something else. It was a bo staff, her most familiar cold weapon. She created a three-metre-long bo staff made of titanium gold. Even though Mina's acid had glued her to the ground, she had some range of movement, thanks to the suit she had created.
She mustered her strength and struck Mina with the staff. If this was Momo, who had not gone through Mikasa's training, this attack would have stumbled Mina at most. But Momo had improved her physique so much in recent years that she was now strong enough to lift a tonne of weight. This made the strength of the power she used in her attack on Mina predictable. Mina could not dodge this attack, as she had lost her vision due to the impact of the flash grenade.
The attack hit Mina like a truck. Defenceless, she was knocked off her feet by the force of the attack. She was sent flying out of the ring. The attack hit her in the ribs and broke every bone in her left side. She coughed up blood and fainted. Momo was freed from her restraints when Mina fainted. Mina had the ability to control the acid she created.
Midnight declared Momo the winner of the match as soon as Mina left the field. Momo removed the head protector from the suit she had created and walked out of the ring smiling. Momo's smiling face was a stark contrast to Mina lying outside the ring, vomiting blood. Cementoss immediately took Mina to the recovery girl.
He returned shortly after dropping her off. Meanwhile, Bakugo and Kirishima were waiting in the ring. Bakugo won the match without difficulty. "I think we have our opponents," said Momo. "It was obvious from the beginning. It was only the show they put on that made it easy for us to beat them," Ikiru said, bored.
"The same can be said for me. It will be difficult for me to defeat Bakugo without hurting him," said Momo. "It's not funny, Momo. The only type of opponents you'll have a hard time against are ranged fighters. That's assuming you're not aware of them. But I'm getting a little bored with this show," Ikiru said as he took a sip of his cocoa milk. Momo, on the other hand, was looking at Ikiru with love. Sometimes she would say silly things just to get him to talk to her more.
Ikiru then entered the inner corridor of the stadium to go down to the ring. On his way, he was aware of Endeavour waiting for him. But he did not change his path. "I've been waiting for you," Endeavour said at the end of the aisle leading to the ring. "I'm not interested in what you're selling," Ikiru said, walking past him without looking at him. Suddenly the temperature in the corridor increased by tens of degrees. "Arrogant brat, you're just a stepping stone for my son. Do your job like the other brat, and get Shoto to use his fire, Quirk," Endeavour said.
Ikiru was not affected one bit by the heat. He stopped his steps and looked over his shoulder at Endeavour. "Big words from number two. Do you know what I hate most? Pride and fanaticism. You want me to make your son use the Quirk of Fire? Done. But his father's will shall have to pay the price," Ikiru said, turning round and taking a step. That one step shook the entire stadium.
The corridor leading to the ring entrance was filled with cracks. Ikiru kept walking without stopping. Endeavour was trembling with nerves. As the stadium shook, all the professional heroes raised their guard. They immediately began to look around to see if there was an attack. "Everyone, calm down. Professionals have started to investigate the cause of the tremor. We will now move on to the next match. Yes, the first semi-final match will be between Ikiru Ackerman and Shoto Todoroki," said Present Mic.
In the ring, Ikiru and Shoto stood facing each other, looking at each other. "You know, you're not the only one holding back. Unlike you, I hold back my power because of my opponents, but your father doesn't know how to talk to whom. Hero number two tried to humiliate and intimidate me. Hahaha, isn't that funny? Let me teach you why you shouldn't make me angry," Ikiru said.
Ikiru's words were heard throughout the stadium. When the audience heard Ikiru's claim, they were speechless. Their trusted number two hero had threatened a high school student? The reporters jumped on the story like kids on a sugar rush. Shoto frowned at Ikiru's words. This was the second time today, and he was furious. Midnight had heard Ikiru clearly.
When she saw that Ikiru and Shoto were ready for battle, she immediately started the match to distract the topic. Ikiru had his hands in his pockets, while Shoto was ready to attack. As soon as Midnight's signal sounded, Ikiru disappeared. The next moment, Shoto was lying face down on the ground, and Ikiru was standing over him, stepping on his head. "Do you believe you're strong because you have a two-element Quirk? Or did your dick-face father make you believe that?" said Ikiru, looking directly at Endeavour in the stands.
As soon as the match started, he teleported over to Shoto and slammed him to the ground with his telekinesis. Shoto, meanwhile, used his Quirk and tried to freeze Ikiru. The ring was completely covered in ice, but Ikiru didn't have a piece of ice on him. Still with his hands in his pockets, he was stepping on Shoto's head. "Ah, how strong you are, thanks to you, the audience's drinks won't get hot! I found it! Your hero name should be Refrigerator and Stove! You can save warm drinks, and cook raw food!" Ikiru said sarcastically.
Shoto was so angry that he was close to losing control. He used his Quirk to its fullest and tried to trap Ikiru in ice, including himself. The block of ice he created reached the roof of the stadium. "How thoughtful of you, even creating ice for drinks!" said Ikiru, sitting cross-legged on the block of ice Shoto had created. He had his left arm bent, his left elbow resting on his leg and his head resting on his left fist.
As Ikiru spoke, the stadium's cameras turned to him, leaving people speechless at how comfortable he was on the screen. Meanwhile, Shoto finally decided to use his fire. He freed himself from the ice he had created, fire coming out of one side and cold vapour emanating from the other. "OOOH how scary! Oh, and by the way, I have telekinesis, you idiot!" said Ikiru, breaking the huge ice Shoto had created into pieces, and letting them float in the air. He slowly floated to the ground and landed opposite Shoto. As soon as he landed, the pieces of ice he had levitated began to coalesce and take shape.
