Chapter 1: The Accident
It was a bright summer morning when Ye Ming had gone to the Eastern market which was 5 miles away from his place. The market was filled with less crowd than usual. He went to the infamous Kuchrov vegetable store (it was infamous for not giving any discount generally however exceptions are there).
"Good morning Mr. Kuchrov, Grandpa asked me to bring the vegetables on the list." Ye Ming stated. This startled the old man but with a firm face he said, "It is good to know that young people are helping the elderly but that doesn't mean I would be impressed and give you a discount."
Hearing this made Ye Ming expressionless. He wanted the discount but using this statement was not the obvious choice. He had tried this statement when he had come to this shop for the first time and had succeeded in getting a discount so he had to change his way to get the discount.
He then counterattacked the statement "Mr. Kuchrov is an experienced person so how can he get swayed with just a statement." After being praised by Ye Ming, a smile had come on his face. Then he started helping Ye Ming in collecting the vegetables. Seeing this Ye Ming smirked.
He picked up a ripe cucumber, went to Mr. Kuchrov, and said "Sir these are very ripe cucumbers and of top quality, they must have been grown under great care." Mr. Kuchrov who was collecting the tomatoes and other vegetables happily looked at him. He was very happy as someone had praised his efforts.
Ye Ming showed dissatisfaction on his face then continued "But the problem is they are very ripe and monsoon shall soon begin." Hearing this Mr. Kuchrov fell into deep thought on how to tackle the problem. Seeing this scene Ye Ming said, "Sir I have a solution and you may also benefit from it would you like to hear." To this, the old man readily agreed.
Ye Ming said "Sir our orphanage is holding a ceremony the day after tomorrow and would have a banquet so I would like to take them at a discounted price so that you as well as I will benefit. All I want is a 30% discount as I will be taking the vegetables in bulk."
The old man immediately said "No more than 18%." Ye Ming immediately leaped forward and shakes his hand and said "Deal". Seeing his behavior old man guessed that he had fallen for his trap but he could not cancel as he had given his consent for the deal and if he would back out now his face would go down in the market.
Ye Ming happily packed the vegetables and walked out of the store. People started looking at him in awe. The shopkeeper was very stingy and would rarely give discounts but today Ye Ming got a discount of 18%. Few people were in admiration of his talent for business skills while few were jealous.
Ye Ming was known for his business communication skills (if rated on a scale of 10, he would get 5; an expert salesperson would get 3 or 5 on average). He had learned these skills for survival who would have thought that he would use them like these in the future?
Ye Ming is a high school student studying at Seventh Middle Highschool. Seventh Middle Highschool was the best high school in their locality. He was an orphan and he had been staying in Yoa And Sons orphanage. He was very intelligent and had always been a topper in the class. He won the scholarship and then enrolled in high school as they had to give up after middle school because of a lack of funds in the orphanage. Winning the scholarship was the only way for getting into the Highschool.
He was an introverted person who would rarely interact with others. He liked to be an independent person. He would hardly rely on anyone and do various part-time jobs to earn tuition fees for the classes on university exams.
His behavior was not like this and only happened after going through the terrorist incident. When he was 10 yrs old, he and his parents had gone on a trip and while returning home they decided to come via cruise.
The journey was going on smoothly but an unexpected event occurred. They were in their room when they heard the sound of gunshots, screaming passengers, and the laughter of the terrorists. My parents locked me in the closet. His parents had to protect him so they hid him inside the closet. He was able to watch what was going on through the keyhole. He stared at the terrorist who had barged in and started shooting at his parents. Tears flowed but he could not scream as he watched his parents getting killed. He wanted to stop them but could not move as fear had taken over him. He couldn't make a single move when the terrorist killed his parents.
He started hating himself for not moving, for being a coward, and doing nothing but just sitting in the closet. To make his parents proud he started studying hard. He started doing part-time jobs to earn his tuition.
At present, Ye Ming was walking on the bridge with vegetables. He was in a delightful mood as he had profited a lot today.
Suddenly he saw a car moving at a very high speed moving towards the small child who was 10 m away from him. He wanted to help but fear of death had taken over him.
Flashback to the past had started playing like a tragic movie in his mind. He was feeling helpless. He took control of his body and made his will listen to him. He thought he would regret a lot if he does not save that child.
He decide to take the step that he had not taken in the past. He had jumped over from the sea of a coward to the sea of a brave. He leaped in the direction of the child and pulled him onto the pavement. Seeing him safe he was happy but he had forgotten the car.
Boom! Boom! boom!
The car dashed him and then he died but had a smile as he had saved someone's life.
