Chapter 2: Cards Are Not Just Paper

[Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.] Is a saying for the chapters ahead.

I looked around my room and saw nothing was different. I still had everything all tidy and nice so I left my room to search the rest of the house. Some of the staff looked me weird bu didn't say anything and kept to their duties. I enter the front of the house where the door was and the large stairs I was at the top of.

I slowly made my way down with my short legs but got to the bottom and ready to look outside.

"Where do your going young man." A old butler looked at me as he approached.

"I wanted to go outside." I said in return.

"So you finally learned to speak." He said happily.

That's when I remembered that I had never spoken and they never heard this boy speak.

"Well if you can speak then tell me why you wish to go outside." The butler said looking me me carefully.

"I want to see what's outside and experience it." I said my mind.

I had begun to remember this butler as somewhat as a mystery as I could only see my surroundings where the boy was but many times I noticed he had a sword. He seemed to go out often and stayed in the basement mostly.

"Well if you want go outside you should also know the dangers. Monsters live beyond the walls of this small castle. And if they saw you they would kill you in a instance." He said it slow and coldly towards the end.

"But how can I get stronger if I can't learn." I said.

"If you wish to learn how to wield a weapon to fight you must first be strong enough to hold the real thing." He said looking at my skinny body.

"Focus on strengthening your body and mind and when the time comes I'm certain someone will train you." He said kindly.

"But until then why not prepare cards." When he said this my heart almost jumped.

Cars where what allowed magic and powerful being to be summoned. Three hundred years ago a man had created a card to summon a army of the undead. But of course card like those die with their owners as they a bonded. Weapons were even put into thin metal cards to give the weapons magic and made travel with them easier.

"Will you show." I asked.

"Of course, come along." He said and started to stroll away waving me to follow.

He lead me to what I had thought was the basement but instead it was a huge maze of catacombs. He lead me down several hallways and past a small trainings area.

"What is this place." I said slowly while looking around at the Well torched rooms.

"You will learn more about it on the future." He said opening the door to a large room.

When I entered I saw hundreds of books and bookshelves pled in rows and against wall. Four table sat in the middle of this room.

"This is the library of our great house. Here we keep cards and books of the past. While many of these books will talk of creatures it is possible to create those creatures through your cards suchthe need for knowledge about them. After all one person can only think of so many at a time." He said placing a deck of rectangular papers on the desk. Each card was thick and sturdy with a small line of metal around the edges.

"To create a card all one must do is place their hand on a single paper and envision what your creating. From how it looks to how it could be used a fight. You must then allow the idea to take hold in your mind and your mana in your body will transfer it to the card.

"How long does it usually take." I ask while slipping a card onto the table.

"Well that depends on how strong it will be. To make a stranded card it is about a hour. The longer you go on from the the stronger it will become. However after a certain amount of time your mana will start to get low and your body will begin to pay the price instead." He said as he looked over at the door.

Another man dressed in our house color of midnight blue and black enter with a heavy long sword in his hand.

"His lord has returned from the border and requests you." He said looking at the butler and than me.

"Please help the boy how I attend to our lord." The butler said walking out.

"So creating your first card kid. No ones ever made a card of their own before at such a young age. Why not play with some of the practice cards instead." He said looking around the room and placing his sword against a wall.

"Because I want to make a card I can use no matter what." I said placing my hand on top of the plain white card with a silver edge.

"Don't say I told you so. But you can't do it." He said and took a seat.

My mind started wandering and a image caught my mind. Not just one but many. They were all animals from my past life but I was adding magic to them now. I picked one I thought would be most useful for the future.

The snow owl came to my mind. I pictured it as slightly bigger than what it actually was but didn't stop there. I envisioned it with ice blue veins going through its feather and that it's wings could knock a whole person down ten feet away. All of a sudden I felt pain going through me and a liquid going down my arm. Someone shouted at me but I couldn't make them out.

I thought of its vision to see endlessly and how the smallest movement could catch its attention. I thought of its wise and proud soul. I imagined it as a whole then. A white owl with ice blue lines going through its feather in a storm of snow. It's eyes cool and collected as it flew with precision. Finally reaching the end of the storm it gave a giant force of its wings as it stopped. The force broke the storm around it before it looked at me.

My body fell and the man grabbed me as blood came from my shoulders and back. A giant white glow came from me taking the form of a owl and swooping into the white card. The man looked at me and I passed out.

When I awoke I was my room with a small bandage around my arm and a larger one on my back.

"What do you mean he created a five star card. He's only six and it's his first time." I heard the voice of someone talking with frustration on the other side of my door.

"I know sir but it's true. I saw it myself and the card is still next to him on his table." Another voice said.

The door opened slowly and a man looked in. My father was that man and he walked in with a smile on his face.

"Are you okay son." He said as he sat at the edge of my bed.

"Actually I feel fine." I said as it was the truth. It was like whatever happened was a dream.

"Good, Good. Well please don't try doing anything like that again." He said and looked at my desk with me.

"That's your card you know. You created it so no one else can do harm to it or even use it." He said looking at the card deeply.

"Listen, no news of this shall reach anyone until I say so, understood." He said to not just me but the people at the door who gave a quick bow and returned to work.

The card was a white owl with blue magic like lines over its feathers inside a snowstorm that calmed down around it.

Text.

This owl was born from the ice and storms themselves. The force from its wings shall settle or create any storm. The wielder of this card gains perfect vision. The owl itself can take all damage directed towards its wielder with its nearly invincible feathers against objects. Does not cunt towards magic objects.

I had created a powerful being. The staring system was what gave a card its power constraints usually only ever increasing through special rituals only available once it reaches its max power. The star system worked by nine stars. One stars were common and were about the same strength as ten soldiers. Two stars usually could handle up to fifty soldiers easily and held strength in number. But three stars were the equivalent of a hundred two stars and held the power of higher thought and could battle for long periods of time. Four stars were known as the duke cards as only the most powerful of families could both have the mana and talent to even creat one. Five stars were know as royal treasures and could wipe a entire army of ten thousand with ease while also being able to increase only through deaths. Six and seven stars were almost never seen by anyone other than strong kings of old families as only they could produce the mana and time needed to create such cards. Eight stars where known as continent destroyers as they could remove a entire place from the world itself. Eight stars also held prestige with the gods and didn't need wielders to manifest themselves. The most strong and never seen card was the nine star card. The being in those card could enter into different realms and destroy or create entire worlds. Without a doubt they could rule many worlds and were never seen since like ten thousand years ago. But of course if your not strong enough to summon the being from the card than the card is useless unless you hold a bloodline with that cards family and as such it will work for you no matter how weak creating the need to create your own cards unless you came from a strong royal family.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
The_Kings_Author The_Kings_Author

I am setting myself a single goal. I want to stick with this book no matter what. Unlike my others that never even reached above twelve chapters I will work on this until fifty. If people like it and leave reviews I promise to continue it. But my goal is to write at least fifty chapters.
