Chapter 2: life in Birmingham
I woke up in the early morning,
sun barely started to rise. John, tommy, arthur, are sleeping. I went outside towards the woods. this body just began to enter into the growth phase. i need to stimulate it to grow healthily. I started my stretches, and after that, I found a suitable branch and started to do pllups ( more likely trying to do pull-ups). I can barely do single pull-ups. I didn't discourage and started to do other exercises like push-ups, squats, jumping Jack's, crunches, running. I can hardly do any of them. I drank water near a stream. I started to go back. when I reached there and saw tommy, arthur, John, chewing charcoal pieces, to clean their mouth.Oh I forgot toothpaste is extremely costly here, people like us use charcoal to clean our mouth.
" Hey, what we gonna do today," I asked them
" we wanna go to the racing track for betting wanna come?" arthur asked
" Yeah," I said
we cleaned our mouths with charcoal. well, it has typical ash taste and making my tongue numb. we eaten our breakfast. it is toasted bread and beans. after our breakfast, mom went to the factory. aunt Polly came to look after ada and John. really, she is beauty. I have never seen someone as beautiful as her. we raced to track, which I obviously lost.
" Hah, eth you weak like a lady, you need to build up," arthur said
" Come on, he is younger," tommy said
" Well, I can't compare to you, monsters. anyway, I will go to see around, " I said
" ok, don't go too far, lad. come when race started, " arthur said
" Ha bye," I said
I walked towards vip court, and I saw a man with a black suit talking with a government officer
" Huh sir, did you know that horse black dread is likely gonna win today?" he said with Italian slang
" Hu really, then I must place my bet on it," the officer said
I immediately run towards arthur and tommy. they are in line to place a bet. I dragged them side and began to tell them
" Guys, race is prefixed, black dread gonna win, I just hear a kimber guy telling to a government office," I said
" fuck, just miss, we gonna loose our money " arthur said
" I told so, you should listen to me " tommy said
" how much money you have " I asked
" we have 10 penny's . they giving 1: 2 ratio. we'll get 20 penny's and 2 will go for they fee. we'll get 18" tommy said
" ok, wait a minute, I'm gonna look for some more money," I said
" No, too much risk, they not gonna give any more money to us " tommy said. I think for a second
" ok then, you guys look for drunkard, I will look for money " I said.
tommy thought for a second and said yes. I walk towards a crowd. tommy and Arthur went towards the other side. I went towards the parking side, and there are two police guarding the parking area. I slowly ran near the car which is in the corner shed. and began to unlock the car using a hairpin. the police are pretty relaxed cause no one try to steal from cars cause they know, if they found their fate is worse than death. around after 15 minutes, I unlocked the car I slowly entered into the car. I began to search the entire car, in cars dashboard I found a pack of pounds notes. I quickly took 2 pounds and placed the remaining in car. I slowly came out from the car and closed the door. I ran back towards tommy and arthur. they found a drunkard. apparently they manage to make a deal with him.
" Hey I got money " I said
" how much you got" arthur asked, I showed a cheeky smile and showed them the two pounds. their jaws dropped looking at the notes.
" bloody bastard, how did you get those " arthur said
" gypsy magic, don't you know " I said
" ok let's get in line " tommy said
we waited in line until its our turn, that drunkard managed to pay money total 2 pounds and ten pennies. if we win well get twice amount. actually two pounds is a lot . one pound equal to 145 pennies. total we have 300 Pennine. one bread cost is 10 pennies so we can buy 30 bread . if we win we can buy 60 breads. well we gone made a fortune today. after paying we we gone to watch race. it just started. I saw a black horse , it is very muscular, it is neighing with excitement. others is a brown horse. it's also in good condition. the race started both horses running equally. no horse was able to override others. at some point, the brown horse overrides the black dread. heavy felling increased in my heart and stomach. finally, at last minute, the black dread overrides the brown horse. and won the match. I jumped and shouted out of excitement. tommy, arthur, and I went to betting pub with the drunkard. and collected our money. we given 50 pennies to him as agreement. he probably gonna buy another bottle of rum. we went outside to the racing track and began to walk towards home.
" Yeah, we can enjoy ourselves. We got 3 pounds and 80 pennies," arthur
" Not so fast arthur, we can enjoy 80 pennies, we will use remaining to earn more money," I said
" I think it best option," tommy said
" You both are big party pooper you know," arthur said
we divided 80 pennies between us. and went to woods for hunting. we took fist size rocks and began to look for a rabbit or bird. after nearly an hour. arthur spotted a rabbit and shot directly at its head.
it died on the spot. he removed its skin with his bare hands. I gathered wood. tommy started the fire.
we slowly roasted the rabbit. tommy opened a pouch. It contains salt. we began to rip off the rabbit meat and started to eat before dipping in salt. we finished eating, the sun began to set, and we started to go home. one the way we saw the shopkeepers closing the shops, and people began to gather near the garrison. it's not the biggest shop but it's popular because of the cost of drinks. arthur buyed a cigar pack, and started smoking. I want to avoid smoking in this life. because unlike drinking, it immediately shows effects. and causes more damage than alcohol. it's also pretty addictive. In previous life, I addicted to it. There is a time where I cannot stay still for a minute without it.
slowly we reached home, John is playing with ada. Polly is drinking. mom doing house chores. we greeted them and started to play with ada. tomorrow we have school. haa... I really have to go, I hate school even in previous life. schooling system does not suitable for everyone. Some can't sit and learn, they need practical experience to learn. but I have to go to school, the expression of mom is enough to tell me what happens if I don't go to school. we eaten our dinner. and slept in our respectable places.
