Chapter 1: Chapter 1: The White Haired Damian
"wake up! Wake up! " A loud and fierce voice sounded and the group of young kids sleeping on the wooden floor stood up one by one, scratching their eyes, clearly still sleepy.
" Another day of suffering, " one kid said as he stood up.
The other kids look at him in agreement.
" We can't do anything about it if we want to live that is, " another kid said she is the same height as the kid who said something earlier.
Damian is in the same room as them, he didn't say something but in his mind, he agrees with the words of the other kids.
They are currently located in an unknown location, they only know that they are deep in the mountains.
Damian and the other kids left their room and went to an open area outside, they neatly lined up along with the other kids from the other rooms, the place where they currently are is composed of a couple of rooms forming a square with an open area in the middle, the building has two floors and the bottom floor is where the kids stay.
" Today will be a different type of training, In the past three months you all have undergone combat training, and today you will all display what you have learned, " the man wearing black clothes with an eye patch on his left eye said.
" You will take a number from this bowl " the man showed the bowl in his hand "Those who picked the same number will fight each other " the man with an eye patch added.
The kids started to whisper at each other while saying that it was just a simple sparring, while Damian remained silent.
Garu watched the kids whisper at each other and he revealed a wicked smile. Garu is the name of the man with an eye patch.
" Oh I forgot, this is not a simple sparring, you all will use real weapons " The kids started to talk to each other again while the others started to get nervous.
Garu signalled his underlings to come forward and they brought various weapons.
" Remember, you can only win after you kill your opponent, and surrendering is not an option, " Garu said he chant something and a grey-coloured summoning circle appeared in front of him and a one-meter-tall tiger walked out of it.
Damian's eyes widened " Steel Fang Tiger! " He recognised the battle Beast that Garu summoned.
" Now everyone picks a weapon and a number from the bowl, " Garu said, and one by one the kids picked a weapon and a number.
Damian picked a dagger he is most comfortable using a dagger though they were trained to use various weapons. He then proceeded to pick a number from the bowl, he looked at the small piece of paper in his hand and it says number 36 he then went back to his line from earlier.
" Okay clear the square " Garu made a gesture and the kids left the square "Those who picked number 1 proceed to the square "
Two nervous kids walked towards the square which is also a training ground.
" Only one of you can survive, fight! " Garu said, he will also act as the referee for the fights.
The two nervous kids both have swords in their hands and they slowly walk towards each other, clearly probing their opponent then suddenly one of the kids dashed towards the other initiating an attack, the other kid was surprised and was a few seconds late to defend he received a shallow neck wound, the wound ignited his fighting spirit, this time he is the one to attack first and he wounded his opponent, after a few exchange of sword attacks the kid who attack first fell down face first and blood seeped out from his body.
The kid who won walked out of the training ground staring at his blood-stained hands, though they have undergone harsh training this past few months this is the first time he killed someone, though he was fiercely fighting earlier it was just an adrenaline rush and his will to survive, now that the fight is over everything went back to normal and the feeling of killing someone for the first time is eating him up.
" Okay, next number " Garu called out again. Then the next fight proceeded. The whole morning is filled with fighting and bloodshed and after a few more fights it is now Damian's turn.
" Number 36! " Garu called out.
Damian and his opponent went to the training ground. Damian quickly gathered the attention of everyone because of his looks he is skinny and has a good-looking face, pale skin and white hair but his eyes are pitch black like the night sky.
Damian tightened his grip on his dagger while his opponent smiled at him and brandished his sword.
Damian didn't say anything and dashed towards the sword-wielding kid, he aimed for the neck but his attack was blocked.
" You're dead! " The sword-wielding kid gritted his teeth, and pushed Damian away, he is bigger and taller than Damian, he was stronger as well but Damian is light and nimble.
After being pushed away Damian find his footing and dashed towards his opponent again but this time he made a feint attack he aimed for his opponent's neck again but when the sword-wielding kid was about to block he changed it into a downward slash, he successfully wounded his opponent's shoulder, the sword kid stepped back clutching his wounded shoulder, he looked angrily towards Damian and initiated the attack this time, he made continuous sword attacks and some of his attacks hit Damian but it is not life-threatening, their exchange of attacks continued for a few more minutes before they both retreated. Still clutching his shoulder the sword kid is now out of breath, while Damian on the other hand while being wounded all over his body he is still full of energy.
" How? How are still full of energy? " The sword kid asked Damian.
Damian didn't answer he stabbed the sword kid wanting to finish the fight.
The sword kid tried to defend but Damian's speed is something that he cannot follow anymore being extremely tired. The sword kid clutched his neck and blood spurted out like a fountain.
Garu who referees the match has a smile on his face as he watches Damian walk out of the square.
Samson went back to where he was standing before and watch the remaining matches.
After a few more matches the right to death came to an end, the former one hundred kids are owned cut down to half.
" Congratulations to you all, from now on you are all members of the Shadow Hall," Garu said.
The shock was seen on the face of the kids who survived and among those kids is the boy and girl who complained when they were woken up earlier.
While Damian is also shocked about the news that they are now members of "Shadow Hall " he already predicted that they are being trained to become Assassins.
" Get back to your rooms and clean up you all can rest for today, tomorrow you will be busy again " Garu dismissed the kids.
" Layla, Gerald, Kane, Dante, and Damian, you five stay here " Garu called out five names, it made the other kids wonder why, but they continued on their way what's more important to them is that they survived.
Damian and the other kids who were called out stayed in the square, lined up.
They are all wondering why they were asked to stay but they all have one thing in common, they performed greatly during their fights and they showed little to no reaction after killing their opponents, especially Kane, he killed his opponent in one move, Kane is the oldest mid here and is now 15 year old while the youngest is 12.
After a few minutes, Garu is now standing in front of them.
" You must be wondering why I asked you five to stay, as you know we are all members of Shadow Hall, an assassin organization mainly operating in Miller City of the Carion Kingdom, and our Shadow Hall is just a small part of a bigger organization, and every time we have a recruit we organized a completion and the winner will receive a prize, and the Shadow Hall where they belong to will receive the biggest resources not only will it elevate the strength of our Shadow Hall but the status of our Shadow Hall as well and if that happens we will receive higher level missions and bigger commissions " Garu explained.
Damian and the others took a few minutes to absorb all the information.
" Can we get our freedom back? " Kane asked Garu.
When Garu heard his question his face turned fierce.
" When you finish your training here you can do what you want as long g as you keep your identity as an assassin a secret and do the missions we assign to you, but if you all dare to run away or escape the whole shadow hall will hunt you down " Garu answered Kane's question.
Garu is not scared that the kids here will report them to authorities or their families since all the kids here are orphans.
Kane didn't say anything and just nodded.
" I chose you guys to be the representative of our Miller City Shadow Hall, so work hard, harder than the others, " Garu said and he dismissed them. As they are about to return to their respective rooms Garu added. " Just because you all survive today doesn't mean you can leave this place easily ".
