Chapter 2: Sudden attack
Dawn groaned as his body was in pain, and his mind was in a mess. He tried to open his eyes, but they refused to budge.
After struggling for an hour, Dawn was in a position to look around himself. He was in a grassland with nothing but grass as far as his eyes could see.
Dawn frowned because he was in an unfamiliar environment with no living beings in sight.
He breathed in and out, trying to calm himself and make sense of the situation. One moment he was in his room, and the next, he was here in this plain.
Strangely, the air was refreshing. The sun was high up in the sky scorching the earth with its light.
The surroundings were eerily quiet, enough to make his breathing quicken, and his hair stood up just like a cat whose tail had been stepped upon.
"Standing here won't solve anything," he muttered and chose a direction at random and started walking. After walking for an hour, nothing seemed to have changed, he was still surrounded by tall grass as far as his eyes could see.
But he decided not to give up. He had given up on many things in life already. Yesterday itself he had decided to change after listening to his father's lecture every day. Continuing his journey seemed pointless but he decided to continue anyway not like he had anything better to do.
After walking for hours, he hadn't reached anywhere.
Dawn's clothes were drenched in sweat, he was starting to feel tired and thirsty. His stomach was growling in hunger after walking constantly for hours.
The sun had begun its journey downward and the moon had started rising silently to illuminate the place.
Dawn was feeling confused and a little afraid; he couldn't wrap his head around the situation he was in. After walking for hours nothing had changed other than the sun and the moon.
Although, Dawn was trying to act brave and indifferent but in reality.
He was starting to feel anxious and depressed after thinking about the situation he started to miss the warmth of his home.
Just as he was thinking about his home, he heard a weird noise some distance away from him. Afraid he stood still. Although he hadn't encountered any trouble, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
While he was standing there like a statue, the sound of a beast sniffing came closer, making him afraid. But he knew no one was going to help him, so he started walking backwards.
As if the beast sensed the movement of Dawn it started to run, while moving toward Dawn it howled, alerting his comrade of the delicious prey it had found.
It was at this moment Dawn knew he had fucked up. Barely in a minute, the beast was upon him jumping toward his neck and trying to take advantage of Dawn's stupidity. Dawn tried to push the beast away, but to his surprise, he didn't have the strength to do so.
He had only managed to push the beast away from his neck toward his shoulder. The creature bit his front delt viciously and blood started to ooze out of Dawn's shoulder.
After tasting Dawn's blood the creature became even more ferocious now that it had the upper hand.
Dawn's face turned pale, his eyes grew blurry, and the world started spinning due to blood loss.
He was having difficulty in breathing. Dawn knew this couldn't go on. He took a deep breath and tried to look at the weak point of the beast other than its eyes he couldn't think of anything else, Dawn pushed his finger into the eye sockets of the beast while enduring the pain in his shoulder.
The dog-like beast whimpered as his prey had managed to damage its eye, turning him blind. Dawn took the opportunity to throw it to the ground, and simultaneously, Dawn jumped high in the air, Dawn used the momentum of the jump to smash the skull of the beast into several pieces. The beast stopped moving with blood flowing out of its mouth.
Dawn didn't bother looking at his handiwork. He fled the scene as fast as he could.
He could hear the howling sound in the distance chasing after him, If they managed to catch up to him, he would be finished. Clenching his teeth in pain he ran with all his might.
Dawn was starting to experience pain in his chest due to a shortage of breath but he couldn't stop. He tried to look back only to see five dog-like creatures chasing behind him.
Dawn was surprised by the tenaciousness of his body. To be able to run for so long and not faint, but now was not the time for these thoughts.
He increased his speed only with his sheer willpower, unknowingly he was on top of a green symbol.
Dawn had a feeling that this green symbol was his only hope.
Excited, he searched around for anything useful.
Dawn found a button mechanism on top of it. He pressed it in desperation and a staircase appeared leading downward. He ran inside. At that time a creature at the front fired a laser-like beam out of its mouth.
Dawn quickly ducked, nearly losing his life and hurriedly closed the gate of the safe zone. The smell of burnt hair assaulted his nostrils, If he was one second late … he didn't want to imagine the consequences.
