Chapter 2: The Dead Forest
The silence was all I could hear now, it was nice. I knew I should've been freaking out now since I couldn't see anything, I couldn't feel anything, nor could I hear anything, couldn't breathe either. I guess it was because I was dead. I felt at peace like I finally achieved complete harmony with my mind and soul.
'I wouldn't mind staying here for all eternity. It's nice here, I don't have to worry about anything anymore.' Just as I was about to drift into the void a loud sound startled me from my harmony.
*TICK* *TICK* *TICK*
'Is that a clock?' Something felt off, the echo of a clock wasn't supposed to be here. Nothing was.
In the pitch black darkness, a tall clock tower suddenly appeared into view. It was getting closer…
'Is it moving or am I imagining things?'
When it stopped getting closer I started floating up to the top of it facing the part making the noise stopped doing so. The time stopped at 8:37. Was this supposed to mean something?
'Alright this is getting really weird- wait. The clock is gone.' Taking a deep breath and tried to rest his mind again.
'Wait a fuckin minute! I can breathe!' Realization setting in I tried to open my eyes, which strangely took some effort, but I did it. And what I saw was even stranger. Looking side to side on the ground, I was surrounded by a butt load of dead trees and fog.
"Where am I?" I even had difficulty speaking with my voice sounding so horse and dry, like pieces of metal scraping against each other.
'My throat hurts from just saying a few words, didn't I die?' I thought while looking around. If there was one thing I didn't like, it was being in a place I didn't know surrounded by a bunch of dead trees and fog. I could barely even see ahead.
Fear started to set in my heart. I tried getting up but my body felt weak, no matter how hard I tried so I just turned to my side which was easier. Hearing the crunch of leaves on the ground, I sat up on my knees looking at my body.
'Oh no…'
My arms and legs were too long to be human, and my hands and fingers were long too. Instead of normal nails like a human, mine were like claws and were very sharp and black. My skin was pale and was stretched tightly over my bones making me look skeletal.
When I was done staring at my hands and claws for a full minute, I finally got up and tripped. I wasn't used to being this tall so I had to be careful when walking.
[*PING*] A noise startled me
I was confused until a transparent gray window appeared in front of my face, with text in blue.
'A SYSTEM!? I GOT A GOLDEN FINGER!' I screamed with excitement in my mind.

I calmed down and mentally gave the system a command that I thought would work. I focused on the plus sign.

'Wow. That is a lot of information to process.
So, I'm a humanoid windigo huh? Cool I guess, and there are so many abilities to read. I mean, I'm glad I'm immortal and all but people are gonna get suspicious. I'm not gonna live in this dead forest forever.
[*PING* A note has been delivered]
'A note? From who?
[From [%]^}^{^%] : Hey poor life form. I loved your screaming while I was devouring your flesh.]
"…."
'I have so many questions to ask but no one to answer them. You know what? I don't even want to think about that right now, I just want to sleep this off.' Energy started coursing through my body after I thought that.
'I-I feel powerful, I feel greater than I have ever felt before!' I thought while looking at the fog-covered gray sky.
'I can manipulate the environment, right? That means I can get rid of this fog.' With that thought in mind, I lifted my right hand to the front of me with a command, I flexed my hand.
A millisecond after the area cleared completely leaving it looking less scary looking, and more like a regular dead forest.
*Grumble* a terrible hunger hit me like a train ruining my mood completely.
'I-I need food very badly.' I spread my hearing out unconsciously until I heard something that resembled an animal.
I immediately blitzed in that direction on all fours with my jaws wide open ready to eat whatever was gonna be my meal. When I arrived I saw a lone deer all by itself. For me to devour. To consume.
I didn't even know what happened until I woke up with blood all over my hands, arms, and face.
"Well… that's not a good sign." I said in my monstrous voice with concern.
