Ch 0: Is this the end?
Tears trickled down my cheeks as I felt the heat of the raging fire in front of me. Screams of pain and angst echoed within my head as I was unable to move a single muscle. No part of my body would listen to me, as I was stuck, ... listening to the wails of my clan's people being slaughtered before me.
'Weak. I'm weak. I can't do anything. I can't even save my own people.' Such thoughts played over and over in my head as I saw a couple people approaching from within the fire.
The flames had already burned through much of their body, as they looked similar to the coal that was used to cook.
"Young ... Clan Leader ... please ... save yourself." They muttered with a raspy voice as a chill went down my spine.
I screamed in fear as I couldn't help but back away. My family, my friends ... they were all dying in front of me, but all I could do was run away.
From behind me, the sounds of wailing was being drowned out by a different noise. A noise that gave me chills upon hearing it.
"Hehehehahaha!" The sound of laughter echoed throughout the forest as I couldn't help but look back at the source.
A large man with an extremely pale face stood in the village as a demented grin took up more than half his face. Blood dripped from his fingers as his eyes focused in the direction I stood.
5 pairs of pitch-black, feathery wings spread from his back and with a single flap of those wings, the man appeared right in front of me.
"Well now, would you look at that?" He muttered to himself as he looked down at me. A golden light appeared in his right hand as he looked into my eyes.
"Try your best to survive, okay? Make it fun for me." He said with a grin on his face, and the next moment, impaled my thighs with the golden light that took the form of a spear.
Bloodcurdling screams escaped my mouth as I felt the spear burning the insides of my thigh, while the heat from the spear caused my skin to cauterize.
The man just stood there as he grinned.
He yanked the light-spear out of my thigh and cackled as he turned away. His wings flapped once more as he rose into the sky.
I glanced in the man's direction, and once I noticed that he was far away, mustered all the strength I could and began to run towards the nearest city.
'Kuoh should be nearby. I just need to make it into the city and I'll be safe.' I thought as I ignored the pain that came from my legs and kept running.
The line of trees came to an end as I saw a beautiful suburban city lit up by the moon, the stars and, of course, the streetlights.
A small smile began to appear on my face but vanished faster than it appeared when I heard something far too familiar.
"Hehehehahaha!" The man from earlier laughed as he floated above the trees with a golden spear of light in his hands.
"Watching you run, clinging to the little bit of hope you had ... it was far too amusing. However, I'm afraid this is where it ends. I can't afford to leave behind a living dragonkin, now, could I?" The man said as he pointed the spear in my direction.
'Amusing? He enjoyed watching me suffer, trying to survive? Am I no different from the bugs on the ground to him?' I questioned in my head as I glared at the man.
"If I don't die from this, I will rip the wings on your back off. One, by one, by one. This, I swear on my Draconian blood."
The spear hurtled down from the skies and impaled my stomach, causing blood to gush from the source. Blood came out my mouth as I dropped to my knees. My hands pressed against the ground as I looked up at the man with a scornful expression.
As the man left, my vision began to fade. Moments later, I collapsed onto the ground.
