Chapter 2: 2. Council Meeting

Lilith's POV

My mother's words still rang in my ears from the day before. She had promised to make me queen no matter what but I was unsure as to why my mind still was not settled. I did not think I was deserving of being queen no matter what my mother thought. I was not comfortable with her going against the entire court because of me.

"May the light continue to shine on you, my queen...the Persian King keeps interfering with the creatures of Earth. That beast is ruthlessly breaking the laws that connect both our realms! Are we just going to sit and not do anything about this?!" My uncle, Azar, said with a scowl on his face. His wings glimmered in response to the anger in his words.

I was at the council meeting called together by the Elders and my mother, the queen. The Elders were high ranking angels and the most powerful after my mother. They were firm worshippers of the Everlight and could shape shift into any light creature of their choice.

Among the council meeting were the Sages, like my uncle. They kept the laws and were also firm worshippers of the Everlight. They were incapable of violence and very wise angels.

"Yes." Another sage agreed with Azar.

"King Ramon has flouted too many rules, Your Majesty. We need to remind the Haze of their place and tell them we are still superior!"

All at the table murmured in agreement.

The Haze, commonly known as Hell to the creatures of Earth was a dangerous and very despicable place but it did not always exist. Years ago, Satan ruled beside Ovah - the first queen - and they were so in love that nothing could break them apart. One day, Satan decided he wanted to rule alone while Ovah remained beside him just as his beloved and nothing more.

Ovah came to know about Satan's plan and banished her dearly beloved down to the Haze where he was forever kept away from her. Satan, in spite of her, went down to Earth and began to cause chaos among its creatures and Ovah had no choice but to imprison him in the orb of doom forever.

She then put the Haze under complete control of Celestial. We were superior and in control, everything was peaceful until Satan and Ovah's son grew of age and made it his mission to separate demons from the rule of angels. Many lives were lost in the great war and that is a history I would not want to repeat itself ever again.

His name was Ramon and he was the ruler of the Haze - he was the Persian king. He was a menace and with the help of his disgusting demons, all he did was cause trouble in the entire realm.

"It's disgusting to think that he has our blood running through his veins. That menace is all demon and has no single angelic trait within him!" Another sage spoke and everyone murmured in agreement again.

I was seated beside my mother. Her wings waved slightly and I knew she was about to talk.

"Silence!"

The place went silent at her command - not a single sound could be heard.

"I am well aware of Ramon and his shenanigans but we have other issues at hand currently. The Templars will take care of Ramon's excesses." She spoke in a loud voice.

"The sages have informed me that there has been a shift in the realm lately and they do not know what the shift signifies, but I want us to be alert. I communed with the Everlight yesterday and she spoke to me...she said the prophecy will be fulfilled."

I looked at my mother in shock. The shock on my face was also evident on everyone present. There was a prophecy that said; "The dark days will come upon the universe but a pure love, will liberate all the realms and defeat evil."

The prophecy had been told for generations but Celestial placed a ban on it and called it a lie because said pure love was what brought about the great war and an abominable child - Ramon.

So what was this now about that same prophecy?

"The pophecy?" An Elder asked the question lodged in all of our minds.

"Yes, the prophecy." my mother answered.

"But why would the Everlight..." A female sage started but she did not get to finish her words before Azar striked her hard. She gasped in pain at the force of the hit.

"How dare you question the Everlight?!" He bellowed, his eyes widened as he looked at her in pure disgust.

She quickly bowed her head in remorse, "Forgive me, my queen."

I looked away from the sage in pity - she would surely get punished for this. Sages took questioning the throne and the Everlight as treason and would punish anyone severely for it. Sage punishments were one of the worst kind of punishments Celestial had to offer.

"The Everlight has spoken and that is final. She has her reasons and they will not be questioned, am I clear?!" My mother looked around slowly for any form of defiance and when there was none, she nodded in satisfaction.

"Any other issues we need to tackle?" She asked the table.

"Yes." Azar speaked and my heart skipped a thousand beats.

I whispered a prayer hoping that he was not going to say exactly what I think he would say but lo and behold, I was disappointed.

"How has your training been going, my princess?"

My words hung in my throat as everyone's eyes turned to me, including my mother's. I willed myself to talk but fear kept me silent - these were one of the times I was happy I did not have wings, imagine everyone got to know how scared I was right now.

"It has been going well." I finally squeaked out. My insides had melted into goo as I became the center of attention.

"But I do not see wings..." Azar said and I could hear the mockery in his voice.

"Enough!" My mother interjected as usual, saving me from the embarrassment my uncle always exposed me to.

Azar had no problem with me but he did not count it as fair and appropriate for a wingless angel to become queen. "It has never happened before," He told my mother but she refused to heed to his reasoning.

I did not know the side I belonged to but one thing I did know was that Penelope, his daughter and my hot headed, unreliable cousin was not fit to be queen either - so I stood with my mother based on that.

"This is not what we came here to discuss." She continued but Azar was relentless.

He chuckled, "My queen, it is only fair we discuss about our next queen. The fate of our realm rests on that. It will not be long before you lay down your crown for the next generation. We need to know where our future lies!"

There were murmurs of agreement and I knew I had to do something to avoid been disgraced further.

With a loud voice, I declared, "I will be queen and no one, not even you uncle, can change that!"
