Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Chicken or the Egg?

The second class for Gryffindor newcomers was History of Magic, undoubtedly the most boring subject at Hogwarts, without a doubt.

The History of Magic classroom was located on the second floor of Hogwarts Castle. Gryffindor newcomers had a twenty-minute break after finishing their first class.

However, due to Albert's lengthy conversation with Professor Flitwick, the four of them didn't have any spare time to waste and had to quicken their pace to reach the History of Magic classroom.

When the four of them rushed to the History of Magic classroom, the caretaker, Argus Filch, had already come early to open the door. After all, the ghostly Professor Binns couldn't help everyone with that task.

Gryffindor and Ravenclaw attended the History of Magic class together, and before class started, everyone sat in their respective seats chatting.

Albert ignored the playful twin brothers beside him and took out a box of Every Flavor Beans from his pocket. He picked a blue bean and threw it into his mouth, only to realize it was blueberry-flavored after chewing.

"Good luck," Albert murmured. While taking out "A History of Magic" from his backpack, he also took out "A Selection of Nineteenth-Century Curses." Using reading as a cover, he flipped through his skill list.

After the Curse class, Albert discovered that he had gained another skill: Curse Theory.

In Albert's memory, this foundational skill was quite useful, so he immediately raised his Curse Theory level to 1. He carefully recalled the additional knowledge of Curse Theory in his mind, furrowing his brow. The effect of increasing it by only one level seemed rather insignificant.

How should I put it?

Although his Curse Theory had indeed improved, Albert had a feeling of "Is that it?" Most of the knowledge, once pointed out, wasn't difficult to understand, leading to that kind of underwhelming feeling.

While contemplating the knowledge of the Lumos Charm, Albert took another Every Flavor Bean and threw it into his mouth, as if he was eating a chocolate bean.

The next moment, he covered his mouth with his hand as a spicy taste diffused in his mouth.

Damn it! The bean he just ate was a chili-flavored Every Flavor Bean. Albert was hit hard by the spiciness and vowed never to eat them absentmindedly again.

"What's wrong with you?" Fred noticed Albert's change.

"It's Every Flavor Beans, chili flavor," Albert pointed to the small box on the table. He still hadn't finished eating the Every Flavor Beans he bought on the train last time.

"Every bite is an adventure," Fred laughed gleefully, teasing Albert with the slogan of the Every Flavor Beans.

Albert gave the guy in front of him a fierce glare, then took out a piece of toffee from his pocket to relieve the spiciness. He handed the box of Every Flavor Beans to Fred.

"Be careful when eating Every Flavor Beans," Fred said, pinching one and chewing on it. "Spinach flavor."

"Mine is strawberry flavored," George announced cheerfully.

"I'm going to try this..." Lee Jordan also came over, picked one and threw it into his mouth.

"Do any of you want any Flavor Beans?" Albert shook the box towards the others.

Before anyone could respond, Lee Jordan's voice came from beside him.

"It tastes like rotten eggs, so disgusting." The black guy's face twisted as he spat out the Every Flavor Bean he was chewing on the ground.

A Ravenclaw girl next to him cast a disgusted look at Lee Jordan.

Noticing her gaze, Lee Jordan looked a bit embarrassed and scratched his head sheepishly.

"Vanished," Albert raised his wand and pointed at Lee Jordan's vomit, then casually tossed him a fruit drop.

"I will never eat Every Flavor Beans again," Lee Jordan swore.

"You've said that more than once," teased George. "He just ate another one, orange marmalade flavor."

After Lee Jordan's incident, everyone distanced themselves from Albert's small box of Every Flavor Beans. They didn't want to eat anything strange.

"What magic did you just use?" The Ravenclaw girl introduced herself. "I'm Katrina MacDougall."

"Hello, Katrina, I'm Albert Anderson," Albert said, stuffing another piece of chocolate into his mouth. As he chewed, the fiery taste gradually subsided. "That was the Scourgify charm, a very practical spell."

"Most new students won't be as skilled in magic as you, even with family members teaching them in advance. And..." Katrina glanced at the book Albert was flipping through, "I'm sure the Sorting Hat definitely placed you in the wrong house."

"There's nothing wrong with Gryffindor," Albert dismissed her comment. "And... I come from a Muggle family."

"That's not possible. Only those from wizarding families receive early instruction in magical knowledge." Katrina's expression showed a mix of disbelief.

"I heard... to enter the Ravenclaw common room, you need to answer a question posed by the eagle-shaped doorknocker," Albert awkwardly changed the subject. He didn't want to argue about his blood status.

"Yes, you need to answer the question of the bronze door knocker to be allowed into the Ravenclaw common room," Katrina looked at Albert skeptically, wondering how he knew about it. "But I'm curious, how did you know about this? Many people don't know how to enter the common rooms of other houses."

"I overheard a Ravenclaw student complaining about not being able to answer the question and being left outside the common room," Albert casually made up an explanation.

"Oh!" Katrina still had some doubts about Albert since the chance of encountering such a situation was unlikely.

"Have you noticed how Albert can strike up a conversation with anyone?" George whispered to the person sitting next to him.

Fred nodded repeatedly, and Lee Jordan agreed too. He reached into the box and took out another Every Flavor Bean. This guy actually enjoyed eating them.

Albert glared at the three of them and cleared his throat, asking, "Tell me, what interesting questions have you all encountered?"

"Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?" Katrina picked a question she happened to know the answer to.

"What do you think?" Albert turned his head to the Weasley twins.

"I think it should be the phoenix first," Fred said.

"I agree," George immediately echoed.

"Why?" Lee Jordan asked, puzzled.

"Obviously, it's just a guess!" the twins said in unison, their casual expressions amusing everyone.

Albert couldn't help but laugh.

"What about you?" Katrina asked again.

"In the Muggle world, there's a similar question," Albert didn't directly answer her and continued, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

"What's the answer to that one?" Katrina asked curiously. She thought she had already guessed the answer.

"The chicken came first," Albert replied, and the answer turned out to be different from what Katrina had thought.

"Why?"

Albert explained, "How could an egg appear out of nowhere in the world?"

Katrina shook her head. "That reason isn't enough."
