Chapter 7: Awakening
After some time, we decided to go down for a dinner. Sis and mom were already waiting for us. Some time ago mom said that it is painfully obvious that Lola is not going to end up as just my maid so she asked me to bring her to the table to eat with us. After we had a family dinner and our tea talk, we decided to go sleep. But this time Lola didn't try to pretend that she is going to sleep alone and after I changed to my pajamas, she just shapeshifted into her wolf form, cuddled into me and went to sleep.

Like this, time went. Most of our tutors finished our courses, from the plethora of different lessons we had before we are now limited to training after breakfast and one course after lunch, for me it was lesson how maintain a domain as a noble and for Lola it was maid specific course with our head maid. I told her that she can skip it, but she kind of liked the idea of being my personal maid. She was hell bent on becoming one. And to be honest the thought of having my personal battle maid companion felt weirdly good so I let her to have her fun.
It was about month before my fifth birthday when I was woken by overly excited wolf girl jumping in my bed. When I asked:
"Good morning, Lola. What is going on?"
"I awakened Vic! I got my abilities! I have shadow element!"
As she finished talking, she turned into torpedo and flew into my embrace. She was smiling from ear to ear.
"Awesome Lola. Do you want to go to training grounds a try out what you got?"
"Yes please!"
It turns out she got two abilities, one being "shadow walk" and second being "shadow manipulation".
Shadow walk let's user disappear into shadow and reappear elsewhere from within the shadow. While she can remain fully or partially ethereal. It is basically short distance teleport between shadows that allows her to fully materialize only part of her body when emerging. Basically, she can disappear in front of enemy, appear behind his back and materialize just her hands with the daggers stab person to death, fully submerge back again and rinse and repeat. While during the whole operation most of her body is intangible due to being submerged in shadows.
Shadow manipulation let's her as the name implies manipulate shadows, she can move shadows and create objects out of shadows. To this point her training that was already split into two parts, that being training in her human and wolf form. Now it was split further to training fighting with shadow walk in both of her forms and using shadow manipulation.
In the novel MC got scoffed version of shadow walk but he almost never used it because he found it unethical to surprise attack people, and that was also the reason why he never actually properly utilized Lola and why he never really properly bonded with her. But I Don't mind these "cowardly" tactics. Honor is not wort jack when your head is rolling on the floor. I hope I will be able get the shadow walk once we seal the contract.
Lola trained vigorously her abilities and she became very proficient with them. When my mother seen her in action as she was jumping from shadow-to-shadow stabbing and slitting throats on the figurines of various shapes and sizes without ever fully emerging from shadows, she gulped and spoke.
"That kid would make top class assassins ashamed of themselves. What she can do is insane."
"Bro I am not sure if you are that good or that lucky that you found her."
I just smiled. Honestly, I felt very proud of my little wolf girl.

It was day of my fifth birthday. Day of my awakening, I was woken up by my little wolf girl.
"Vic! Wake up! It's your birthday. Wake up, you are going to awaken today!"
"Good morning, Lola! Seems like somebody can't wait."
"We will be able to form contract today once you awaken. And once we do that it will no longer matter how many people will know that I am spirit beast. Plus" she blushed heavily "I will be even closer to you."
"How much closer we can be? We even sleep in the same bed." I told her as I chuckled.
"Bully!" She uttered silently as she burrowed her blushed face into my chest.
After a second, we both had a good laugh. We freshened up and put on some clothes. Lola first helped me freshen up and put on some clothes then she ran into her room to do the same while I waited for her.
Once done we both walked towards the dining room in a good mood.
As we arrived for breakfast, I heard two angelic voices.
"Good morning, Sweetie! Happy birthday to you. Good morning, Lola!"
"Good morning, Bro! Happy birthday! Good morning, Lola!"
We both responded in unison
"" Good morning""
"Come sit and eat!"
I sat opposite to my sis, and Lola sat next to me. As we started to eat, mom started to speak.
"Today is your awakening sweetie. You know how that works and what to do?"
I nodded.
"Remember. Since you studied a lot and trained a lot you are going have a lot of classes to choose from. My guess pretty much all non-combat classes plus quiet a lot of combat classes. If the family predisposition can be relied on you should have quite a lot of mana since I am the sorcerer class and father was spellblade, both actually requiring quite a big mana pool. Even your big Sis is a spellblade. So, no worries. There is decent chance that you will see quite a lot of classes so don't rush. Take your time. And pick whatever you like the most. And don't worry you will be able to form a contract with little Lola regardless of your class."
"I know mom, but thanks for the support."
"OK once we finish the breakfast we will go change and then go to the awakening center so they can perform the ritual. I reserved one room for you for whole day so we should be able to get there without waiting. If you want on the way home, we can go check artificial souls in the mage guild and natural soul in auction house. Maybe you will find something that you like for your lesser contract. You should at least pickup storage and stuff like that."
"Thanks mom."
