Elaina's POV

It had finally come! It was the night of my mating ceremony with Max, and according to werewolf customs, the ceremony had to happen under the moonlight. However, it had been hours since the sky grew dark, yet there was no sign of the moon anywhere.

The garden designated for the ceremony had already been decorated with an abundance of twinkling lights, the scent of delicious food wafting through the air, and almost all the guests had arrived. It was just that a ceremony couldn't take place without the moon. Having the ceremony, regardless of whether the moon was up in the sky, meant that the moon goddess had no part in the union.

Along with the ladies who had dressed me up, I also looked up at the sky, wondering why my ceremony had to be fixed on such an inauspicious night. The moon was supposed to be our witness, a symbol of the moon goddess's blessing on our union. Instead, it seemed like the universe had conspired against me.
