Chapter 2: Day Job

I was an avid psychology novels fan in my past life. The thrill of a protagonist and an antagonist going head on in an intellectual battle was one that gave me an adrenaline rush like no other. One thing that all those hours watching those movies and reading those novels taught me was that the first rule was to always, ALWAYS, keep your cards close to your chest.

Currently, my greatest card was that I was an absolute unit even in my human form. Bang was one of those old men who was an absolute monster in their younger days and as they grew older, they became even more unfathomable. His physique was on a whole other level as he was the last S-Class hero to fall while been exposed to Garou's cosmic radiation. By getting his martial prowess, I also got his conditioned body and I had to say, I don't think I have ever looked better before.

Now, don't get me wrong, Atomic Samurai is a powerhouse on his own right, his sword is as terrifying as his speed, but compared to Bang, I don't think he could hold on for long. But, Atomic Samurai has one thing I loved about him, his overwhelming prowess when it came to using a katana. In a fraction of a second, he could slice anything a hundred times! The amount of mental calculations, precision and speed one needs to do that as a normal human is just...total madness.

One more thing is that he claims he can cut through anything he wants and I was placing my bet on that been true and not another one of those moments of a character tooting their own horn. Now, I was inside my apartment practicing my proficiency in fighting with four arms. Sure, I could move in that form like it was second nature, but using four arms to fight using the Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist.

This was a highly defensive, lowly offensive fists technique he created and one of the main reasons why I decided to pick Bang. Though, having four arms was a bit disorienting during the first few times I tried practicing it. But, my proficiency got better and better till I was as adept as I was when I had two arms. Though I noticed one thing, having four arms brought my efficiency to a whole sixty percent. It was disorienting to the enemy while bringing my deadliness to a whole new level! (A/N: I love fanfic bullshitting.)

Ding Dong!

I looked at the door with a slight frown. I was not expecting visitors. While the memories I received from me former self were incomplete, I knew my timetable was not open to any one at the moment. So, I tapped the Omnitrix symbol on my chest, changing to my human form, and went to open it.

'A cop!?' I was as surprised as I was full of questions. Especially how this young Asian woman was looking at me expectantly. 'Is she here for me? A former girlfriend or my current one. God, I hate this incomplete memory.'

"Are you alright?" she asked me in concern.

'No, I forgot all about you when I awakened my memories and got a watch that can turn me into different aliens, who I will use to forge my name as a vigilante,' I thought sarcastically before slapping myself mentally. I had forgotten metahumans were a thing here and the young woman in front of me might be one, or even worse, a telepath. Though, looking at her clueless look, I guess I was free.

"Yeah," I answered as I thought carefully of the next words to speak. "So, what's up?" She looked confused for a second before becoming livid.

"What's up? That's the best you can come up with? You are my TO, do you know what kind of picture it paints me in if my TO is not on his job in time, does not call to say he's in leave..."

"TO?" I blurted out loud, making her double back and look at me in disbelief. 'Oh, shit! Training Officer! I'm her Training Officer. I'm a cop!!"

"Are you drunk?" she asked.

"No, no...I mean, I was yesterday, still haven't cleared my head yet," I answered her, getting a favourable expression out of her. She accepted my reason and I was glad. "Look, just wait for me at the..uhm...shop and I will be down in a minute." I hesitated at the word shop because I was gonna say car but the former me was used to calling the cruiser as shop. I guess my memories will become less blank the more I become active in this job.

"Sure. Just...hurry up. Sarge was about to blow his top this morning," she said, docilely. Somehow, I was proud. I knew this was the feeling of a superior seeing his junior cowering before him, but it did not feel good seeing it was a pretty petite woman on the receiving end.

'Sheesh, get a grip. Although she looks absolutely delicious in that uniform, I'm sure there are rules against fraternizing with force members. Just, spend the day and if you think you can do this job without jeopardizing your superhero career then go for it. If not, you can resign tomorrow and look for a better next chapter of your life,' I told myself. Nodding at her, I closed the door and went to my bathroom.

Quick showers were something ingrained in me, even more in this life so it was a two minutes shower before going to the bedroom and opening my closet. And, yep, there was my uniforms, steamed and ready to be taken out. I had not gotten into my closet due to the adrenaline rush of yester-night's vigilantism so I had missed it then.

'A little snug, but still good,' I thought as I completely relief on muscle memory to put on the uniform. Then, as if it was a ritual, I headed to my bed, well underneath it, where a safe was waiting for me.

"I don't know the password," I said to myself. So, I changed into Brainstorm, the perfect crustacean alien to figure this out.

"Whoa!" I was hit by the most clarity I ever had, it was two hundred times more powerful than a post nut clarity. It just feels like my brain expanded and I was seeing and perceiving the world in a brand new way. Equations started playing in my mind, equations I could not even start to comprehend in my inferior human brain. I looked at the safe in front of me and I felt contempt swell in me.

"I can't believe my human brain is so...dull. Well, it's a primate's after all so I was not expecting better," I said to myself in contempt before punching in two combinations. The first one failed, but that was just a test and the second had hit it in the nail. "I should probably build a better safe for the gun. Perhaps one with a biometrics security, heartbeat sensor, six code incryption...Right, right, I'm late." I reluctantly hit tapped the Omnitrix symbol and I was back to being human. I felt... conflicted. I liked been mentally superior like Brainstorm but my human side was my original form.

'I think I'll lay off Brainstorm for now. Better yet, I'll only use Ghost Freak as a last resort type of situation, which is never,' I thought, holstering my Glock and heading outside. I approached the police cruiser while my recruit was waiting for me leaning on the hood.

"Let's go, boot," I said as I headed to the passenger door. I saw the look of confusion, hesitance then joy as she quickly went to the driver's door like she was afraid I would change my mind.

'I messed up somewhere, didn't I?' I sighed to myself seeing her Cheshire grin as she stroked the wheel.
