Chapter 53: The Parker Event

In the suburbs of Oklahoma, an SUV shook wildly and veered dangerously close to driving into a ditch.

However, it managed to regain control and return to the road.

Inside the SUV, Parker engaged in a heated argument with several unfamiliar men.

"Okay, Parker, cards on the table. I'm gonna need the whole score for the next thing." A bald man says from the shotgun as he looks at Parker straight in the eyes.

Parker just looked at him back with a stoic face.

"So, if you were me, what would you do with a guy like you?" The bald man continued

"Divide up the shares, and that'd be the end of it," Parker replied with a stern expression.

"What if you decided not to do that?" another man challenged.

"I'd kill him while I had the chance," Parker said flatly, his words sending a chilling message.

Unbeknownst to Parker, the men in the car fixated their gaze on him.

The driver slyly adjusted the rearview mirror to get a better view of Parker.

He then proceeded to press the button that would lock all the doors of the car.

In response to Parker's response, a donkey-faced man sitting on the right side of the back seat revealed a pistol from under his feet.

The bald man in the passenger seat also took out his gun discreetly.

However, sensing the tense vibe in the car, Parker wasn't one to be caught off guard.

Remembering Mike's advice before coming here, Parker berated himself for not being more cautious.

The driver and the bald man on the shotgun gave each other a look and nodded at each other.

As the SUV hurtled forward, Parker's instincts kicked into overdrive.

Seeing the signal from the driver, the donkey-faced man took out the shotgun from his feet, and with lightning reflexes, he punched the donkey-faced man before he could pull the trigger, diverting the aim of the shotgun away from himself.

Parker lunged for the weapon, and a fierce struggle ensued between him and the gunman.

With adrenaline pumping through his veins, Parker managed to wrestle control of the shotgun, but not before a shot was fired.

BANG!

The deafening blast echoed inside the confined space of the SUV, and to everyone's horror, it hit the driver in the head.

The bald man took the opportunity to seize the steering wheel, his eyes blazing with fury and determination.

The SUV careened wildly, tires screeching as it veered off the road and into the dirt. The car shook and shuddered, fighting against the force of its reckless course.

With a life-threatening obstacle looming ahead, Parker knew he had to act fast.

He gripped the shotgun tightly and struggled to redirect its aim away from himself with the young man stuck between them.

BANG!

Another shot was fired from the shotgun, and this time it barely missed Parker's head, shattering the window glass beside him.

The broken glass shards flew everywhere, adding to the chaos inside the SUV.

Amidst the chaos, the young man's terrified screams filled the air, further escalating the intensity of the situation.

A single, hair-raising moment seemed to stretch into eternity as they hurtled straight toward a colossal tree.

The SUV was seconds from a deadly collision, but the bald man skillfully maneuvered the wheel, barely avoiding the massive trunk.

The car scraped against the tree, tearing off its side mirror, but they were back on the road, still in the throes of their perilous journey.

Fueled by desperation and rage, the bald man turned his attention back to Parker, directly aiming at his head and his fingers twitching on the trigger.

BANG!

Parker was shot right in his body.

BANG!

Another bullet left the muzzle, but it missed its intended target.

The driver then took control of the wheel after calming down, and as it turns out, the driver was just shot in his ears, making it non-lethal.

Acknowledging his vulnerability, Parker made a split-second decision and swiftly jumped out of the SUV through the window without hesitation.

As he leaped, the driver's hand connected with Parker's body in an attempt to hinder him.

Nonetheless, Parker endured the pain and made a successful escape.

Was it really a success though?

The SUV screeched to a stop, and the four individuals emerged from the vehicle, each brandishing a gun.

With an injury and no firearm, Parker quickly took off on foot.

Spying a truck in the distance, Parker formulated a plan.

Skillfully, he leaped onto the moving truck, and as they passed by the SUV, he jumped off, puncturing the vehicle's tire with a knife he found in the truck.

Without hesitation, Parker ran and hopped back onto the tractor.

Witnessing Parker's escape, the four assailants frantically rushed back to the SUV.

However, their tires had been deflated, frustrating their pursuit.

"Damn it!" they yelled angrily, and the driver pounded the steering wheel in frustration.

Meanwhile, the bald man suggested to the young man named Hardwick, "Call your uncle, tell him to take care of Parker, A PROFESSIONAL THIS TIME, and get some people to ensure our safety. Otherwise, we'll be finished because of him."

"Just because of Parker?! Uncle has barely any time for this!" Hardwick protested.

"Shut up! You don't know, Parker. Just make the call!" Melander snapped at Hardwick.

Hardwick complied and stepped out of the car to make a phone call.

A man in a suit in a luxurious office with a view of the city skyline at the back picked up the phone and answered.

"What's the matter, nephew?"

Hardwick then explained his current situation and how he needed help.

He instructed Hardwick, "Listen, Hardwick, I'll do you a favor and take care of your business. Two of my finest hitmen will be on the move—one to handle Parker and the other to watch your sorry ass."

"But you gotta understand, protection comes at a price. You'll have to pay for the services and owe me one. Now, let's see how this little game plays out. Take care." The man continued.

"Thank you, Uncle Zandinger!" Hardwick expressed his gratitude.

"Next time, take care of the weeds thoroughly. Cut it till the roots." the man on the other end said before ending the call.

Hardwick returned to the car and informed Melander, "My uncle will take care of Parker and ensure our protection."

His words were met with relieved sighs from the others in the car.

.........

At this point, Parker had safely made it back to the urban area.

He thanked the driver and swiftly exited the car, leaving the dangerous scene behind.

Feeling the pain from his wound, Parker went to a nearby motel to tend to it.

-PINES MOTEL-

Scouting the motel for potential rooms that might have some stuff, he saw two camo men get on a truck from the motel, and it seemed they were in a rush.

After they left, Parker went to their room, room number 5, and unlocked the door using the oldest trick in the book.

He inserted an id card he had pickpocketed from one of the motel guests.

After scouring the room for things that could help him, he went to the bathroom and cleaned his bullet wound.

Fortunately, the bullet had only grazed his waist and abdomen, not causing severe damage.

He then took a shower and changed his clothes, and to further alter his appearance, he trimmed his beard, leaving a mustache and stubble.

With a plan in mind, Parker decided to take drastic measures.

He targeted a store with an armored truck unloading it with money and, with nerves of steel, successfully carried out a robbery to secure the resources he needed.

Next, Parker sought a place to acquire a fake identification certificate, realizing he had to go undercover to protect himself and evade any possible pursuit.

He drove into a warehouse with a printing company as a front, but they do some other shady stuff.

After entering the warehouse, a boisterous voice rang throughout the room filled with papers and whatnot.

"Hey! Come on in, Señor! You made it in record time. So you're Hurley's friend." A man wearing a black dress shirt and a green apron with a Latino heritage greeted Parker as he was escorted in.

"I'm glad you found us, Mr…." The man continued as he reached out for a handshake.

Parker just smirked in response.

"............"

"Well, step right this way." Seeing Parker unresponsive to his pleasantries, the man showed the way to the room where they would be conducting business.

"You know, this was my daddy's business. We make most of our money off high schools, you know, printing yearbooks and diplomas—stuff like that." The man began with small talk as they walked and introduced his work to ease the awkwardness.

Not being a fan of such conversations, Parker immediately got straight to the point. " I need to be able to buy a car, get a loan. Name, birth certificate, driver's license, social security number."

"Passport? Anything else?" As they entered the man's office, followed by his henchman, he finished Parker's sentence as he took off his apron.

"Did you bring a picture?" he looked at Mr. know-it-all condescendingly.

"No…" Embarrassed, Parker just masked it off with his stoic face.

Parker then proceeded to give the man the payment in a yellow envelope.

"Ernesto, go get the camera." The man called his henchmen as they proceeded to process the documents.

"Come back after five days,"

Parker responded with a nod and left.

.........

After getting in the car, Parker called his partner, Hurley.

"Hello?" Hurley inquired.

"There was a problem with the job. I need you to do two things for me." Parker then backed out and drove through the highway.

"Yeah, name it." Hurley noticing the importance of the call, stood up from his recliner and walked out of the room he was in.

"First, let Claire know I'll be gone longer than I thought," Parker says with determination and longing.

Hurley responded with, "All right, you got it."

"Second, you know where I can get a hold of that client, Melander (the bald guy) ?" Parker asked while eyeing a potential car he could swap out of his vehicle with.

"What happened?" Hurley asked with confusion.

"I invoiced, but I wasn't able to collect." Parker then saw one car in a motel-like place that has its owner leaving to pay for something at a counter.

"Jesus, Parker… Are you alright?" Knowing the meaning behind Parker's words, he knows shit just got complicated.

"Where is he," Parker questioned with seriousness.

"This is not a good idea. After you didn't call, I did some checking. It turns out that Melander is not independent as I thought. He's got connections, like BIG connections, we're talking about Chicago Mafia, Danzinger. So don't start anything." Hurley warned Parker.

"Hurley, it's me. Give me a name." Parker, not scared, proceeded to demand a clue to get his revenge.

"Listen, Hardwicke is a nephew of Danzinger. You understand?!" Hurley warned Parker once again.

"Give me a name!"Parker raised his voice and demanded Hurley once more.

" *sighs* Jesus, All right, here's what I got. His brother Bobby Hardwicke owns five bars on Bourbon Street, plus a rock 'n' roll club." As Hurley explained, Parker went to the car as it's owner was getting busy filling out paperwork at the cashier.

"Now, listen, you be real careful. These are BAD guys-" Hurley warned Parker once more.

Parker, getting a clue to find his vengeance, cut off the call and went inside the Nissan Altima and rode off.

......…

After entering the only rock 'n' roll club on Bourbon Street, Parker went to the inner club and approached a bouncer.

"I need to see Bobby Hardwicke," Parker stated as he stared at the bouncer.

"Not gonna happen," hearing his boss' name, he immediately denied Parker.

"Tell him Mr. Danzinger sent me." Parker haughtily said to the bouncer after being denied.

"Wait here." After hearing the boss of his boss, he went inside a secret room to inform Bobby of Parker's visit.

Parker swiftly followed the bouncer as the door hadn't closed yet.

He grabbed the fire extinguisher to the side and prepared for a confrontation.

Noticing the delay in the sound of the door getting closed, the bouncer turned back and saw Parker following him. "Idiot, get out!"

Parker then hit the bouncer right in the jaw with the fire extinguisher, leaving the bouncer knocked out.

Climbing up the stairs, he walked into a luxurious room that looked like a bar filled with expensive drinks.

Parker then witnessed two people arguing.

"What!" A man in a red dress shirt saw a person enter his private room while conversing with somebody and can't help but be furious.

"Bobby Hardwicke?" Parker asked the man that just yelled at him.

"Out! Private!" Bobby spread his arms dramatically and ordered Parker to leave his room

"I need you to tell me where your brother is." Parker fiercely looked at Bobby and walked to the bar top.

"Get him the fuck out of here." Bobby pointed at the man he was arguing with earlier and commanded him.

"Come on, you heard-" The man reluctantly stood up from his chair and approached Parker.

Parker then grabbed the man's head and slammed it to the edge of the bar top and threw the man to the wall.

Bobby, seeing Parker's attack on his associate, grabbed a baseball bat and jumped over the bar top to confront Parker.

He swung the bat over his head to make momentum to hit Parker, but Parker grabbed a bar stool and blocked the attack.

He then let go of it with one of his arms and right-hooked Bobby to the face.

Parker then grabbed the stool back and marched to the fallen bobby on the ground.

He then placed the bar stool on Bobby's neck, planning on choking him with it.

"Your brother went off on a job with a man named Melander. They took money that belonged to me. Tell me where they are, and I'll get out of your hair." Parker interrogated Bobby while stepping on him with his foot.

"Do you have any concept of the unholy shitstorm you're about to unleash by fucking with me? DO YOU?" Bobby screamed right back at Parker.

Hearing Bobby's response, Parker pressed the stoll harder on his neck.

"AGHhh, ack" Bobby is now, of course, choking.

"First, I should tell you when I'll do something, I always follow through, always." Parker then pressed the bar stool harder, making Bobby scream even harder

"FUCK YOU!"Bobby screamed indignantly.

"If you don't tell me what I need to know, I'm going to press down on this chair until it crushes your trachea. Trust me, it's agonizing." Parker stares at the miserable Bobby with menacing eyes.

"Plus, there's the post-humorous humiliation of having been killed with a chair" With that, he pressed down harder.

"FLORIDA," Bobby barely said as he was choking.

"Where in Florida?" Parker continued to ask.

"PALM BEACH!" Bobby mentioned with a pained expression. "PALM BEACH FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!"

"Bobby!" a bouncer entered the room and screamed Bobby's name; and he saw his boss getting strangled by a stranger, he proceeded to shoot.

Parker, hearing the shout, let go of Bobby and escaped through the back door.

BANG!

The shot hit a bottle of whiskey.

"Jesus! Are you okay?" the bouncer helped Bobby get back on his feet.

"FUCKING GET HIM!" Bobby screamed as he grab a hold of his neck to soothe the pain.

The chase went on, but the bouncer missed Parker hiding behind a curtain.

Surveying the surroundings after a while and seeing no one, Parker left the bar.

Before taking further action, Parker knew he had to ensure the safety of his loved ones.

He made urgent calls to his girlfriend, Claire, and his informant/partner/future father-in-law, Hurley, warning them to escape immediately, away from potential harm.

"Look, trouble might find its way up there. I think you'd better talk to a travel agent. Tomorrow" Parker voicemail his girlfriend, Claire.

Parker then dialed Hurley's number.

*ring ring ring*

Hurley sitting on his comfortable reclining chair was suddenly woken up by his ringtone.

"Yeah?" Hurley answered the call with his eyes still closed.

"Hurley, Time for a vacation." After saying that, Parker cut off the call and proceeded to escape Bourbon Street.

Hurley, hearing Parker's familiar voice, was suddenly jolted awake and replied weakly at the call that had been cut off, "Yeah.."

......…

After a series of twists and turns, Parker arrived in Palm Beach, Florida.

Parker went ahead with his new fake identity, Mr. Parmitt, a rich oil tycoon from Texas, surveying the houses at Palms Beach for a new vacation house.

As the night settled in, Parker had tracked down his former associates.

With Leslie, the real estate agent's help, Parker confirmed their location.

He kept a cautious eye on them from a distance, lurking in the shadows.

However, his observation didn't go unnoticed.

BANG!

BANG!

Suddenly, two gunshots rang out, forcing Parker to dodge to safety.

A formidable man, two meters tall with a bald head and an intimidating face, had joined the gang unexpectedly.

This strong man was not originally in the plot of the movie.

This new addition disrupted Parker's plan, as the man was clearly not to be trifled with.

His infiltration plan foiled, Parker retreated and found himself back in the car with Leslie.

Despite the tense situation, he skillfully coerced Leslie into providing further assistance.

While contemplating his next move, Parker realized the need for a partner to face the strong man.

......…

Mike and Mia returned to the apartment, and Mia was used to following Mike to his apartment.

"Mia, why don't you just return to your place," Mike suggested.

Mia shook her head playfully, stating, "No way, we both need our own independent space."

Mike also looked at Mia speechlessly.

"Besides, if you upset me, I can always run to my place as a backup plan. It's my little sanctuary." Mia looked at Mike slyly and said.

Amused by Mia's playful demeanor, Mike couldn't help but be charmed by her special comfort.

He was planning on disciplining this playful rabbit, but their moment of affection was interrupted by Parker's call.

Mike answered immediately, aware that Parker was most likely in trouble.

"I need your help." Parker's raspy voice came from the phone.

"What?! What happened? Where are you?" Mike asked Parker worriedly.

"Palm Beach, Florida." Parker is a man of few words thus, he just answered the last question.

"Okay, okay, I'll be there tomorrow. Explain to me what happened then." Mike then made a decision.

After discussing the situation, Mike agreed to travel to Palm Beach, Florida, to offer his help.

Mia, showing her unwavering support for Mike, helped Mike in packing his things and said to Mike, "You better take a bath comfortably! I don't think it will be easy this time!"

Once Mike emerged from the shower, Mia had already prepared his luggage. They shared a passionate kiss before Mike departed.

At this moment, Mia looked at the closed door and murmured to herself, "Who told me to fall in love with a man who is as loyal as my brother?"

The corners of her mouth also raised slightly as she reminisced about Dom's loyalty back then.

Meanwhile, Mia called Dom and arranged to stay with him for safety while Mike was away. "Mike is gone. I may need to stay with you for a few days, Dom."

She knew the risks involved and wanted to ensure her own well-being.

On the other side, Mike contacted John and asked him to protect Sheldon and the others from their science team.

"John, I need a favor. I want you to help me protect the science team again. This time, another friend has provoked a gangster. I need to help."

"Do you need my help in dealing with the gangsters?" John responded with his fatherly voice as usual.

"No! Just help me protect Sheldon and the others! Thank you!" Mike appreciated John's offer but refused.

"Next time, you must call me," John gloomily said. He just missed out on doing something fun, like slaughtering gangsters, blowing their heads off, normal fun stuff.

He also called Dom to request protection for Mia.

"I heard from Mia your friend is in trouble. Do you need my help?" Dom asked Mike.

"No, it's okay. I can handle this. Just help me protect Mia, please." Mike pleaded with Dom.

"No problem, she's my little sister after all, be careful Mike, don't leave Mia a widow." Dom joked to lighten the mood.

Before he left, Mike made one last call to Giselle, urging her to take care of herself and avoid unnecessary risks.

As the pieces fell into place for the impending showdown, Mike knew he was again diving headfirst into the world of dangerous criminals. The stakes were high, and he couldn't afford to let his guard down.
