Chapter 4: Carving

'Please let this cave be a dead end' I pray, hoping that the cave doesn't connect to the underground, I have just arrive to entrance of the cave, and luckily I can see its end.

I walk forward Axe and Dagger in hand while staying close to the wall, to avoid attacks from behind, and after walking through it for a while I made it it the end, and luckily nothing is in in.

The Cave is about medium sized, maybe about 20 Meters long from the entrance all the way to the back and about 3 meters tall and 5 meters wide, it does get slightly wider the further you go in but not by much.

I make sure to examine the walls and ceiling to make sure there are no traps, I then walk over to to the entrance since that's where I plan to start a fire, since I dont want to fill my cave with smoke.

Its still day so it should be more than fine, but first I want to gather wood to carve out containers for water, and I also want to try kill a smile, because if I remember correctly slime from slimes is flammable and I can maybe make slime bombs or torches for my cave, it also seemed acidic going off of how the tree was smoking after that smile back then rammed into it.

That will be good for etching until I can somehow get better acid.

I take out sticks and dry leaves I picked up on the way and place the down I then place rocks around them so the fire I will start wont spread, I then scout out a tree to cut down, while also looking for a tree that has already fallen over to make cordage from the bark.

I want to make a bow asap so I can hunt better, I am thinking of using ranged weapons as my 'class' since I can be safe while using them, it may not be the coolest thing but I prefer to be alive then to look cool.

I have already concluded this isn't a dream since that pain from the wolf scratch feels too real and pain in dreams is really rare, I also have a perfect reflection in the water which isn't supposed to happen in dreams

I am very much worried about this, but all I can do is survive I guess, I would of been hyped since I love Terraria, but this is Infernum, bosses are reworked mobs do way too much damage and pretty much everything can kill you.

But I do want to make it too endgame, even if I will most probably die before than since if I take multiple attempts to fight a boss in game will I be able to do it first try in real life? Probably not, I cant fight, I am not athletic and I have average intelligence.

The only thing I seem to have going for me is my awareness, I was able to dodge a Wulfrum Hovercraft without seeing it and I was able to move out the way of the wolf.

Sighing I finish setting up my will be campfire, before carefully making my way down the small mountain the cave entrance is situated on, I make it to the bottom and scan my surroundings making sure not to alert anything.

And after making sure the coast is clear, I walk over to a dry looking tree, I want one that isn't fleshy because it would shred when I try to carve it, but fleshy wood is good for making cordage after it is dried.

Luckily this isn't a area with alot of water so fleshy trees aren't common, I think the tree's are good? They look like butternut wood, and yes I know about wood types, when making old fashioned guns you would use wood, and you need to know the best types for fashioning parts.

Butternut is honestly perfect for carving, problem is I have barely any experience with traditional carving, I used a lathe and maybe carved simple things by hand, my grandfather did all the complicated things.

I walk up to a tree that's not too thick but not too thin, wont take time to cut down, but is good enough to make containers.

I summon my axe and inspect it, it is getting dull and will need sharpening soon, but I might just make a new better one when I get the right tree for cordage.

I look at the direction the tree is leaning in, and start hacking from its opposite side so it doesn't fall on me, and after hacking for a couple minutes I have made it about half way through. I then move to the other side and do the same.

And after a while the tree is barely balancing, I then use use my hands to bend it until it breaks and falls over to my side, "Ok now to take it back"

I head over to where the branches start appearing and start chopping them off, plucking the leaves off, then storing the sticks and leaves. I plan to leave the leaves out to dry to use as good Firestarter's.

And the sticks are just for making stuff, I Then get to chopping the log into smaller pieces so I dont have to do it inside my cave, and after doing so I place all of the now smaller logs into my inventory.

I then make sure to cut down another tree for 8 more mini logs, leaves and branches.

'Ok now I need to make a smaller sharper knife for carving' I think and quickly head back into my cave before monsters come to investigate, I climb all the way back to the top and start fishing around my inventory for small thin rocks.

After doing so I use another rock as a hammer with another rock as a chisel to shape it, I remember the shapes needed for good wood carving but getting those shapes is gonna be hard with stone, but then I remember the Wulfrum Hovercraft.

But I decide not to try and dismantle it now since I dont have time, the sun is probably only an hour or two from setting and I will need to go sharpen my knife by the pond, then carve a container, then collect water with it so I can make tools from the safety of my cave.

Which isn't really that safe since it doesn't have a door but I'm sure its gonna be fine since I doubt zombies can climb and demon eyes wont be able to see me, I will still try to seal it up a bit though.

I make the knife small curved with a indent that will be sharpened to make carving easier, I then grab a stick and fashion it into a handle before forcing the blade into it with smaller sticks to make it a tight fit.

'Perfect, now I need to go sharpen it and fast' I think and instantly dash out of my cave and run through the tree tops until I reach the pond, I pull out my 'whetstone' which is just a stone, it doesn't have the right graining for good sharpening but it will do.

I pick up some water with my hand and wet the stone and get to sharpening carefully so I dont accidentally break it, after about 10 minutes I have a sufficiently sharp knife so I inspect it.

I waste no time and rush all the way back to my shelter and prepare to carve out a flask, I grab a medium sized log that I cut out of he bigger log, its about 70 Cm tall.

I use my axe to cut off excess wood so I dont have to carve it out, now I have square-ish log that about 50 Cm tall and is 20 cm in all other directions.

its gonna be a big flask so I can carry a hefty amount of water at all times, I have about 2 hours before the sun sets to get this done, find a slime and lock myself in.

So I start carving, I first use my dagger to start emptying the inside, and once I have it how I want it, I lodge the whole thing in between to rocks so I can start smoothing out the outside.

"Jesus, this is so much harder without a late" I grumble while smoothing out the wood, and thankfully butternut is a good wood type for this.

But sadly I dont have a wood finish so the wood is vulnerable to the elements, a good one I can make is by using walnut oil but I dont have walnuts so yea...

Sighing I continue working and after a hour, just as its starting to get dark I finish making my container, I decided not to make it rounded but instead rectangular since that's easier when I dont have a lathe.

I also made a lid that fits into in perfectly, you put a leaf on the entrance of the container then you can fit a lid on it, it holds it pretty well.

Crude Butternut Container

-Holds 2 liters of any liquid

-1% chance to cause splinters

'Nice now I need to go fetch water' I place the container in my inventory jump out the cave and land on a tree branch, I then jump through the tree's until I reach the pond.

I jump out of the tree after making sure there are no monsters near me, I quickly summon my container and fill it up before closing it it and trying to put it back into my inventory and thankfully it works.

I look up at the sky and notice the sun is pretty much gone already, 'Shit, I need to get back' I mentally curse and climb back up a tree.

I make sure to move through the tree's quietly to not attract any attention, but I also make sure to look out for any demon eyes, and as I'm making my way back I hear snarling.

So I look down and law and behold its a zombie, it has holes everywhere in its body, each hole swarming with maggots, it has hollow eye sockets but somehow knows I'm in the tree because it looks up at me.

'Disgusting' I wince and make sure not to fall out the tree's and after dodging more zombies and hiding from demons eyes I make it back to the cave, I jump in and place all of my logs at the entrance which are barely enough to block most of it, except the top.

I look around and and notice I can still somewhat see from the light creeping through the top of the seals wall. I sigh and head over to my camp fire and get ready to try and start a fire.
