Chapter 32: New Policies (II)

The Assyrian citizens present all bowed their heads as they greeted their future king, but they all had anxious expressions on their faces.

Just like Zir had mentioned some minutes earlier, the citizens all thought that the crown prince had changed for the better after saving them from the miserable fate they might have suffered at the hands of the invaders.

However, the recent large-scale slaughter of the nobles cast a shadow of doubt on their previously hopeful perception of their future king. They were all anxious to know if the future king was now an insane, mindless murderer who desired to murder them all.

Alexander could tell what his citizens were thinking at the moment based on the anxious expressions on their faces, but he did not say anything. Instead, he kept walking towards the tall podium that was located in the center of the town hall.

In less than a few seconds, he was standing atop the podium, fully ready to address the crowd, while Agnus and Vince, the two Assyrian military commanders, stood dutifully behind him.

"My Assyrian citizens, I admit that I have not been the best crown prince to you all, and I have made some disastrous decisions that have declined the growth of Assyria." Alexander started to speak, his voice becoming incredibly solemn as he spoke.

"However, I have reflected on my actions, and as a result, I punished dutifully the deplorable nobles that had plagued Assyria for a very long time. It is a duty of mine that has been neglected for too long." Alexander said sincerely, and the next instant he activated his trustworthy skill [Sovereign's Dominance], and immediately a powerful aura emanated from his body.

"Therefore, as the Crown Prince of Assyria, I declare that during the next seven days, I will be revolutionizing the power distribution, administrative systems, and military in Assyria." Alexander declared in a powerful tone

"From today on, all the orders and procedures in the administrative system and military shall be abolished, and the whole kingdom shall enter a one-week post-war adjustment. During this time, all the admissive and executive tasks shall be put on hold, and the new policies devised shall be distributed for every citizen to see and adhere to." Alexander concluded firmly.

The magnificence of the crown prince, alongside the powerful aura emanating from his body as a result of his [Sovereign's Dominance] skill, combined at this moment. His voice echoed around the town hall, stunning the Assyrian citizens.

Every one of the citizens present bowed and submitted to Alexander after his brief speech, and none of them felt anxious anymore. Under the illusion of his powerful aura, they felt like everything that happened was the way it should be.

Although Alexander could have simply written this speech and had any of his Assyrian soldiers address the citizens on his behalf, he decided to address the citizens himself as a display of his sincerity, as this was the least he owed the Assyrian citizens after the terrible leadership the previous owner of this body administered.

The Assyrian citizens all let out sighs of relief after hearing their crown prince's speech. Although they had no idea if the revolution the crown prince was planning for Assyria would favor their pitiable businesses, they had no choice but to wait for the outcome of the post-war meeting.

Moreover, the outlook the citizens had about their future king was now very positive, especially now that he told them the deaths of the nobles were punishment for their vile and heinous crimes. After all, he had now done two very spectacular things in recent times, and this showed that he was now thinking greatly about their future as Assyrian citizens.

The moment Alexander completed his speech, he alighted from the podium and made his way to the exit, with Agnus and Vince following closely behind.

...

The post-war adjustment week was very hectic for Alexander and his royal court, which consisted of Alvin, Agnus, Vince, and Duke Oliver.

Alexander first told Alvin, Agnus, and Vince about his innovative ideas for Assyria and his grand plan of turning Assyria into an S-rank empire. Of course, the innovative ideas were all ideas that he had gotten from his time on earth, but their reaction was entirely the same as Duke Oliver's when he told them about his ideas.

Like he promised his citizens, he abolished the former power systems, but he left the nobility ranking system in place. He was from earth, so he knew how important a hierachy system was in a kingdom. If there were no need for a hierarchical system, he would not be the crown prince of Assyria.

However, to make sure that his decision would not lead to a similar case as the nobles caused, he set up a contribution system, and only Assyrian citizens who achieved 1 million contribution points (CP) would be able to become barons, which was the lowest nobility rank in Assyria. Moreover, the higher the contribution points, the higher the noble rank the citizen could achieve.

The most challenging part, however, wasn't earning enough contribution points; rather, it was making it through Alexander's meticulous investigation. If, even after accumulating enough contribution points, the citizen failed Alexander's investigation, then the citizen would have no hope of becoming a noble.

The only exception to this was if Alexander made the individual a noble himself; otherwise, they would be subject to the rule like any other average Assyrian citizen.

The second thing Alexander did was establish a magic association called 'The Eternal Obelisk', and make Alvin, the white-haired three-star mage, the head of the association.

Of course, building a magic association was a very tall task, as it not only required a lot of money but also a permit from 'The Spire of Omrys', the most powerful magic association on the Omrys continent.

Alvin had argued greatly against building 'The Eternal Obelisk' as Assyria was nowhere financially stable to handle such an expensive project, but after seeing the huge amount of gold coins Alexander brought out from his spatial ring, he had no choice but to reluctantly agree to his demand.

The third thing he did was appoint Vince and Agnus as the highest commanders of the Assyrian military, after which he fully armed the Assyrian military to the teeth with the loot he gained from the spatial ring.

This generous act of his further strengthened the trust the Assyrian soldiers had in Alexander, and as a result, their allegiance to him reached unprecedented heights.

Of course, he did not forget about his Assyrian citizens. With the wealth he gained, he was able to greatly improve the living situation of the Assyrian citizens. He ordered the soldiers and able-bodied Assyrian citizens to be actively involved in the renovation of Assyria as a whole, alongside the bricklayers in the kingdom, and the citizens were all too happy to be involved in the growth of their nation.

Of course, he added contribution points as a method of payment, which further fueled the Assyrian citizens to work as hard as they could.

Although they were surprised at some of his ideas about paving the unpaved and dirty roads and renovating some old houses, they went ahead with his plans. Duke Oliver was appointed to be in charge of the building projects, and none of the soldiers or builders wanted to annoy him.

Alexander's strange and unorthodox ideas ushered Assyria into a period of growth, and seeing that Assyria was now growing after his hard work, he knew that he needed to have enough strength to protect his kingdom. As a result, he turned his attention to something he had neglected a lot recently.

It was time to finally improve his strength.
