Chapter 107: Surpassing the Madman
It took me a moment to understand what Ruby was telling me. She said she killed an enemy who tried to harm her friends. She said that the enemy gave her a headache and that an important man almost died.
This explanation was not entirely clear at first. But then she added more and more details, and it finally got to me. They tried to kill Marshal when he arrived on the island. Ruby had saved him and was now trying to brag to me.
'Well done! A good girl!' I smiled at her and wanted to throw her as high as I could, and I did. I threw her high and then smoothly caught it. After doing this several times, I put her on the ground.
Ruby saved the life of the most important person to me. Marshal was my friend, and he had the same goals as mine. I wanted to win this war and destroy the enemy. I wanted to develop this planet so that I would have more opportunities. I wanted people on this planet to live without war.
"You have become bigger again! Can you tell me what's under the ice of Antarctica?" As I finished playing with Ruby, I heard Marshall's voice waiting for me nearby. Despite being attacked, he looked good. Apparently, the events took place long enough for his wounds to heal.
"I'm glad you're not dead. I don't think Yancy would be a good replacement for you," I joked with him. I know Yancy is helping Marshall. But I doubted he would be as good as he was.
"I see you know who to replace me with. Glad you're not too worried about it."
"Don't worry. I've calculated everything. Why do you think I left Ruby on the island?" It was a lie. But no one forbade me to invent all kinds of nonsense.
"Do you think I will believe you?"
After a brief exchange of jokes, we entered my home. It became very crowded here. Many appliances and building materials were on the floor, but one corner of the room was free for me. I went there and sat down. The marshal came after 10 minutes and we started discussing all the events. First I asked him to tell me what happened to him.
He gave me an even shorter version of events than Ruby did. I looked at him with strange eyes. He doesn't seem to like talking about it. He experienced various hallucinations and the death of many guards of this island. But I got the point. Occultists have appeared in the world who know how to control the mind. It wasn't a complete surprise because I knew it was possible, but it was still surprising to hear that something like this could exist.
"I tried to bring to justice everyone who was involved in the disaster in China and those who gave the orders to attack you. I blackmailed the World Council that you wouldn't want to help people unless they cleaned up this mess, but you just went to fight the White Thorns. You could at least pretend you don't want to help people. I don't feel comfortable now," Marshal told me.
"Are you saying that these criminals are now in prison?" This was good news for me. Finally, I won't be able to worry about getting hit in the back.
"Yes. It was very difficult. They gave the excuse that they were under control, so their arrest was more of a political will. We have no way of proving whether they are telling the truth or not. I can say from my experience that if a person does not have a tendency to do bad things, it is difficult to control even occultists."
"You did the right thing. I didn't just go to destroy the wall. I was ready for a conflict, and if these people were still in power, I would have to invent something else to get to them. My patience is not infinite." My face changed to a more serious one, and the room immediately felt hot.
Marshal took a few steps back because of the hot air flow and covered his face with his hand. After some time I calmed down and we continued to discuss important things. He showed a map of the fighting and the territories captured by the White Thorns. On the map, different territories were depicted in different colors. Each color represented the territory captured by different groups.
I was most impressed by the territory of the clones. These stupid creatures were expanding their territories and destroying everything in their path. But what was interesting was that the clones, after finding half-titans, subjugated them and sent them to fight with other clones. These were some power games.
Everything Marshall told me sounded like some kind of fantasy. The world has gone mad and this madness has been happening on two continents for more than half a year. I was especially surprised by the existence of half-titan spiders. They grew up to 10 meters and lived in colonies of 1000 individuals. They had access to the flesh of the White Thorns, which tried to invade their territory and multiplied very quickly.
"Who came up with the idea of releasing it?" I asked Marshall. I was excited to see all these creatures, but it was a nightmare for humans.
"You have to understand that the White Thorns were advancing fast. We had no choice. If we had not released these creatures, we would have already lost 2 continents and all the people who lived there. Therefore, I, together with the World Council, had to make difficult decisions while you were not there."
"Okay, but these are giant spiders! Judging by the way Ruby continues to grow, I can tell that the size of the spiders will be more than 10 meters."
"I see, but spiders are the most effective against the White Thorns right now."
"I have a bad feeling about this. It seems to me that it will not be possible to completely destroy the demi-titans. Humans will now have to live in a new ecosystem with them."
"Our world is changing every year, so we have to forget about nature and try to survive. When everything is over, our planet will change a lot. All over the world, more and more new species of plants and animals appear. And if you look from space, then you can see that our planet has become 10% more green.
Thanks to your metal that we sold, the harvests increased, and finally the forests began to conquer the desert!"
"At least it's a good trend. I'm tired of hearing only about new problems."
"And you're not the only one like that. The whole world has been living like this since the opening of the portal."
While we were talking, Ruby and Yun came to us. They were doing something near us and tried not to disturb us. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Yun coloring Ruby. She had some cans of paint and a big brush. Yun filmed all this on camera.
"Are these demi-titans as intelligent as Ruby?" I asked Marshall.
"We dont know. So far we see only aggressive creatures in them. Even herbivorous species behave aggressively towards us. We don't know what it's about."
"Maybe it's the clones that affect them like that, or they're smart enough to realize why the humans set them free."
"I think it's both. For my part, I told all the most important things. Now tell me what is happening in Antarctica."
I paused and thought a little about how to describe everything. Antarctica was a deadly zone for people. And even the Jaegers won't be able to do anything there.
"Everything is bad there. All of Antarctica is covered with tunnels and caves filled with White Thorns. They have Kaijus bigger than me and one of these Kaiju I saw a lot of eggs in his stomach. As I walked through the tunnels, I also saw many nests of eggs. Even if we kill the queen, we won't be sure if another queen isn't born somewhere."
"It is bad. This means that humans will have to fight the White Thorns forever until we can figure out how to kill them once and for all." Marshal grabbed his head to think things through. He suspected that would happen. He let the enemy go to Antarctica and allowed him to make his nest there. Now there will be no turning back. The fight against the White Thorns can be difficult and long.
"Can you kill the queen?" He asked after a moment of thought.
"This is not a problem. I don't think Kaiju or Jaegers are a threat to me when I have enough energy."
Marshal smiled when he heard this. I don't know what he's thinking, but I think he's thinking how to surprise me.
"But there is another problem. I can't catch this queen. She runs away as soon as I start to approach her. So I have an idea on how to kill her, and if I'm lucky, kill most of the White Thorns hiding out there."
"And how do you plan to do it?"
"I'll drop a piece of the moon on Antarctica, maybe I'll jump to the queen head from the space too." I had a big smile on my face. I wasn't sure would I survive the fall from space, but I needed to increase the force of the explosion so the queen couldn't escape.
"You are kidding? I thought Dr. Newton was the craziest person I knew, but you seem to have surpassed him."
