Chapter 11: Chapter 10: Encounter With the Golden Eyes Part 2

Among the group, Daemon recognized only one person: the renowned up-and-coming scientist, Yves Cassian, and the gem of House Grimjoy, Godiva Grimjoy.

As Daemon followed the group, he couldn't help but be amazed at the sight of Yves Cassian, the renowned scientist. Selena, with her face, flushed and her violet eyes filled with both life and fear, led the way.

"Please tell me you didn't scare 'Little Lady' half to death, Cassian. If you did, I might just have to impale your head with a stick," Daemon thought inwardly as they made their way back to the Cathedral of the Church of the Barren of Knowledge and Insight.

ENCOUNTER

WITH THE

GOLDEN EYES

PART 2.

Upon reaching the Cathedral, Matthew made sure not to repeat his earlier oversight. He scanned the surroundings, finding no one in the streets and no lifeless clergymen on the ground.

However, there was a noticeable difference this time. The Cathedral doors were wide open, and clergymen of various ranks were pouring out to tend to the wounded.

The three half-siblings, along with Augustus, approached the entrance where regular clergymen were stationed.

"Damn, looks like we're in for a long night," Daemon muttered loudly, earning a soft chuckle from Selena. Daemon and Matthew could easily see the fear and worry behind her laughter.

Augustus and the brothers also heard Daemon's comment, causing smirks to appear on their faces.

Once they got close enough, the guards stationed at the entrance clenched their fists and assumed a defensive stance. Their eyes began to emit an ethereal glow. Without thinking, Daemon extended his right arm, signaling Augustus and the others to stop.

"Cease! In the name of the Barren, identify yourselves!" Both guards spoke simultaneously, their glowing eyes radiating holy and otherworldly light.

Daemon stepped forward, raising both arms towards the heavens. "Calm yourselves, we understand the uncertainty of the situation, but we must act with civility!" Daemon reprimanded the guards, who still maintained their defensive stance.

Upon witnessing this scene, Daemon couldn't help but let out a sigh. "So, you wanted us to reveal our identities, huh? Well then, I am Daemon Eggers, a proud member of the esteemed Eggers Family. In latent terms, I am your boss's boss's boss's husband," he declared with a hint of pride in his voice. The two guards before him seemed visibly nervous, their anxiety evident as they gulped.

Suddenly, a commanding voice echoed from a distance, yet it carried an air of calmness and composure. One of the guards turned his gaze towards the source of the voice and immediately paled in fright.

It was none other than Archbishop Aryanna Eggers, the prominent figure in the Icysylva Continent and the third highest-ranking individual after the Pope. The guard who had caught sight of Archbishop Aryanna quickly stepped aside, followed by his companion. As Daemon and his companions passed by, Daemon nodded gratefully to the guards, who let out a sigh of relief, realizing that their jobs were safe.

Daemon led the way, with Elijah and Matthew closely trailing behind him, while Augustus and Selena followed about five feet behind.

Eventually, they reached a pillar where Archbishop Aryanna was tending to a wounded civilian. The man let out a sigh of relief as his bleeding was being attended to. He had short to medium-length blonde hair and captivating golden-yellow eyes.

However, all eyes were fixated on Archbishop Aryanna and her breathtaking beauty, which bordered on the otherworldly. She was adorned in an intricate black classical dress, with a loosely tied waist strap that was in line with the current fashion trend for women. Instead of the usual two thin straps for the chest, she wore a tight white undershirt, with a rope wrapped around her chest which was concealed by her dress.

Draped over her shoulders, connected by the rope, was a long black coat that resembled a robe. From the outside, it appeared black, but the inside was a vibrant red, complemented by a red ribbon on her left hand. Around her neck hung a regular cross, with smaller crosses embedded into her black classical dress.

Aryanna Eggers was a vision of beauty, with her hood pulled back to reveal her flawless face. Her fair skin contrasted beautifully with her pure black eyes and long, silky black hair that cascaded down her back. Her lips were adorned with vibrant red lipstick, and both of her hands were covered in a delicate, transparent veil-like cloth.

In her stunning ensemble of a compact black dress and an elegant overcoat, Aryanna possessed an hourglass-like figure that would make her a top choice for modeling roles on Earth. As she caught sight of her husband, Daemon Eggers, a soft smile graced her lips.

Aryanna had just finished healing a man, and as his bleeding ceased, he let out a sigh of relief. She nodded in approval and made her way towards Daemon.

With a smooth and elegant tone, Aryanna remarked, "You certainly put on quite a show. Frank and Anderson were practically terrified." Her lips curled into a playful smirk as Daemon chuckled in response. "You should remind your men of who holds the true importance. Imagine the Pope or King being turned away by good old Frank and Anderson," Daemon teased.

Aryanna laughed at the thought of such prestigious figures being denied entry by Frank and Anderson. She raised an eyebrow and gently caressed Daemon's face with her smooth hand. "And do you consider yourself important enough for the likes of the King and the Pope?" she questioned. Daemon's chuckle grew as he pulled her closer, his hands resting on her waist.

"Well, I did manage to get you," he whispered, leaning in for a kiss. Aryanna smiled and replied, "Indeed you did, my love. Indeed you did." Their lips met in a passionate and affectionate kiss.

So much so that Selena could've sworn she had seen this scene in some K-drama romance before. The intensity of their embrace was interrupted by a loud cough, causing both husband and wife to break apart. Daemon turned his attention to Elijah Black, his best friend, feeling momentarily embarrassed before laughing it off.

"Where are my manners, love?" Daemon said, gesturing towards Elijah, Matthew, Selena, and Augustus. "Did you ever have them," Aryanna whispered only to receive a tap on the foot from her husband.

"This is Elijah Black, my childhood best friend…" Aryanna was well aware of Daemon's past and the people in his life, including Elijah Black, his childhood best friend. Elijah Black is the main reason there was no best man or handmaiden because Elijah Black was not present at that time.

As Daemon and Aryanna discussed his old life, Daemon smiled knowingly, confident that Aryanna would pick up on all the names mentioned, except for Augustus.

"This is Mr. Matthew Mitchell, a good friend, and Elijah's older half-brother…" Introducing Matthew Mitchell, Daemon surprised Aryanna with the respect and admiration he showed towards him, referring to him as a good friend and Elijah's older half-brother.

"And this is 'Little Lady', always known as Selena Delacroix, the youngest out of the three half-siblings." Next, Daemon introduced Selena Delacroix, the youngest of the three half-siblings, affectionately known as "Little Lady." Aryanna couldn't help but chuckle, recalling the story of their first meeting and how Selena cockily teased Daemon resulting in him chasing her around.

Before Daemon could continue, Selena coughed, drawing his attention to Augustus Black, who was helping a clergyman. Elijah would have introduced Augustus if he had known his name, but they hadn't been properly introduced due to the dangerous circumstances they were in.

"That right there is Augustus Black. He's a fellow like us - the three of us met Augustus when we first arrived here." Matthew Mitchell introduced Augustus Black to Archbishop Aryanna. Daemon couldn't help but smirk mischievously when he heard his last name, knowing exactly what Daemon was thinking, Elijah shook his head for mercy.

Daemon sarcastically remarked that Augustus was a "fellow Black man," causing Matthew and Selena to cover their mouths in a failed attempt to stifle their laughter. Elijah sighed in frustration, realizing that his last name had now become the source of jokes in his life. Elijah made this point known only for Daemon to bring Elijah closer.

Daemon's arms tightened around Elijah's neck, pulling him closer. "With me around... absolutely," Daemon declared, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Even Aryanna couldn't help but let out a chuckle at his remark.

But their laughter was abruptly cut short as the gates rattled violently, the sound of metal hitting metal echoing through the air. The once cheerful atmosphere was shattered, and all eyes turned towards the closed gate at the front.

A horde of barbarians, dressed in Viking attire, stood before them. Each one relentlessly pounded on the gates with their weapons, causing them to tremble under the assault.

Archbishop Aryanna's thoughts raced as she assessed the situation. "At this rate, the gate won't hold for long," she inwardly concluded. She quickly issued orders to her men and women, instructing them to bring the injured inside and seek refuge in the catacombs.

Under the guidance of the Archbishop, the clergy hurriedly carried the wounded into the safety of the Cathedral and the hidden catacombs below. Soon, only a select few remained outside - Aryanna, Daemon, Elijah, Matthew, Selena, Augustus, and the man Aryanna had been tending to before.

Aryanna was on the verge of commanding her husband and his childhood friends to retreat inside the Cathedral when she noticed something peculiar.

A hush fell over the square as if time itself had frozen. The Viking horde, frozen in their aggressive stance, appeared like eerie statues of impending doom. The air grew heavy with an otherworldly stillness, each heartbeat resonating loudly in the silence.

The once sanctuary of the cathedral now stood as a haunting stage for a nightmarish scene. Shadows clung to the walls like ethereal tendrils, and the Vikings, trapped in their fierce advance, seemed like grotesque figures frozen in time. The world itself seemed to hold its breath as if anticipating the unfolding of a dark and foreboding reality.

Aryanna, her husband Daemon, and his childhood companions and friend found themselves trapped in the swirling chaos of time, yet their minds remained intact, granting them a glimpse into the future.

Emerging from behind them, a youthful figure with captivating golden eyes and hair was the only person to freely move. This was the very person whom Archbishop Aryanna had been aiding before Daemon and the others' arrival.

Without uttering a word, the enigmatic individual strolled past the bewildered Archbishop, her husband, and their friends as he fixed his gaze upon the Vikings. In an instant, they all crumbled like statues, their lives extinguished with a single glance.

To them, they had been killed instantaneously without cause or prior warning as only the six of them remained conscious during this period of unmoving time. The blonde man with golden eyes swiftly turned around, his gaze bored as he uttered three simple words.

"We should talk…"
