Chapter 12: 12/Killer

"That girl isn't my friend, immediatly replied Alice. By the way, what's the deal with you ?"

"What do you mean ?"

"I mean... who are you exactly ? And how are you able to speak to me ?"

The voice stayed silent for sveral seconds before finally answering the first question:

"My name is Killer."

Alice laughed.

"Killer ? What the hell is that name ? If you want to scare me, I'm sorry but that's far from enough."

"You dumbass ! That Name was bestowed upon me by the Godess of Light herself !"

"Pretending to be the child of a god now, huh ?"

"I'm not... well anyway, I'm leaving."

"Wait ! I still don't know where Mirror is !"

Killer sighed.

"I don't know that either, you know. I'm a Lightbringer, not a all-knowing deity. In fact, I think you have more tools at your disposal to find her than me."

Alice stayed silent, and looked at her right arm.

With all of the supernatural stuff happening around her randomly, she almost forgot that this arm had been injured because of the crazy white haired Alice's antics.

"I hope this wound doesn't get infected."

Killer replied:

"It totally will."

Alice sighed. Her strange companion wasn't more optimistic than her.

"Are you a boy or a girl ? I can't quite tell with just your voice."

"How is that even relevant ? We should search for Mirror right now, instead of talking uselessly !"

"Mirror know stuff she shouldn't, so she will probably find us soon. I just want to know more about you, that's it. So, are you a boy or a girl ?"

Killer stayed silent long anough for Alice to think that he/she left, before she finally got an answer.

"I don't know."

"You don't know ? How is that even possible ?"

Killer didn't gave any reply.

"Killer ? Are you here ?"

Nobody answered.

Alice stayed sited on the bench for a while. She wasn't really sure of what to do. It was pretty obvious that exploring the City was the way to go, but it could also very well be the way to die.

"Well, dying doesn't really bother me, so I guess I'll just explore."

Alice didn't really know who she was talking to.

Maybe it was just to herself.

Alice wandered on the empty streets of the City, searching for Mirror.

She called the name of her clone several time, but she got no response.

Maybe... Was Mirror dead ?

No, no. It was just that the City was quite large, and maybe Mirror was just to far to hear Alice, even though there was nothing to hear but her screams.

Besides, even if Mirror was dead, why should Alice care ?

"Because she's your friend, idiot."

"Shut up, Killer... wait, you can read my thoughts ?"

"Of course I can. Took you quite a long time to notice it. And you know what, I can even control your body."

Alice suddenly felt something terrobly wrong happening to her.

Her hand was moving... even though she never wanted to move it.

Alice watched in horror as her own hand slapped her, manipulated by Killer.

Someone had the means to control her body.

"Get out of my head, you monster !" screamed the black-haired girl.

Killer simply laughed without answering.

Alice was shaken up. Somehow, she was more scared of Killer than she was of everything she encountered so far.

Killer was scarier than Mirror, Nikoletta, the mirror of the Forest of Glass or even the clone that tried to kill her.

The fact that Killer was capable of hearing her thoughts or controlling her body was just... extremly spooky.

As if it wasn't enough, Alice knew nothing about Killer, nothing at all.

Apparently, he was linked to the Godess of Light in some way, but he could very well be lying, just like evryone around Alice ever did.

He... or she for that matter.

Or it, even.

"Not it, you insolent little girl ! I'm a person you know. Besides, I don't know why you're so scared of me. You're clearly overreacting to what I did."

"Overreacting ? How is that overreacting ? Never do that again !"

Killer sighed.

"Look, I know we started on the wrong foot. But trust me, we can become good friends, we really can."

"I disagree with that statement."

"OK... Let me tell you a secret real quick..."

Killer had piqued the interest of the young girl.

"A secret ? What kind of secret ?"

There was a weird little silence, as if Killer was letiting the suspens build up, and then he (or she) said that:

"If you die, I die too."

Alice let the words Killer had just spoken sink in, before asking:

"And what ? Was that supossed to reassure me ? Because it doesn't. Not at all."

Killer stayed silent.

"Besides, you could very well be lying. You have no proof or what you just said, right ?"

Killer, again, wasn't answering.

"I'm sure you're some dumb old demon who somehow got inside my body and didn't manage to take it over. You die if I die ? Then sorry, but you're life expectancy is in the negative."

Killer didn't bother to comment.

"Talk to me, you jerk ! I feel like a crazy girl talking to herslef if you don't answer !"

Alice then proceeded to insult Killer, just to make him, or her, react. But, sadly, it seemed like Killer wasn't planning to talk to her any time soon.

Alice had no choices but to proceed with her exploration of the City.

Her steps led the young girl to the strange tower she saw earlier. She hesitated, but she got a strong feeling that going here was a very bad idea, so she didn't.

Instead, she searched for Golen Doors. She knew from one of Nikoletta's very useful info that there were four Doors leading outside the City of Flowers, the very originally named West Door, East Door, South Door and North Door. Sadly, one of the Door (Alice had no compass on her, so there was no way to determine which one.) was locked because of the chains. But it still left three Doors through which Alice could escape.

Well, sadly, no.

The three other Doors also had those weird chains around them, which meant that Alice had no idea how she was supossed to get out of the City.

In fact, she wasn't sure if getting out of the City was even possible.

The three Doors also looked exactly the same as the first one, which was kind of a dissapointment in itself.

At one point, while looking at the last Golden Door she got to, she cursed:

"I'm stuck here with a demon in my body, my only ally in this godamn world has vanished, and I have no idea how to get out ! My situation is way too god, don't you think ? So go ! Make it worse if you can !"

Alice wasn't talking to anybody in particular, she was just letting out her anger.

But at the exact moment where she finished the sentence "Make it worse if you can !", the world suddenly... became dark.

The strange light that seemed like it was going from nowhere had simply... disappeared. Alice was left in utter darkness, incapable of seeing anything.

It wasn't a normal day and night cycle, where there was a small period called dusk that separated the day and the night, no.

This was as if she was in her bedroom, and someone just switch the lights of. It was a brutal transition. A very brutal one.

After a short moment of sheer disbelief, she laughed.

She laughed at the darkness.
