Chapter 18: Chapter 18 - Kobayashi's trouble and a brilliant solution

Chapter 18 – Kobayashi's troubles and a brilliant solution

The next couple of weeks went by, unnaturally calmly with nothing major happening.

The usuals of the café were still coming on schedule, although Rimuru noticed that Kobayashi seemed to more strange lately, and she had the scent of multiple dragons on her.

Nothing abnormal happened in the group chat for Medea, and Artoria and Ciel were still holed up in their hobbies.

The peace was greatly welcomed, but was soon disturbed by another presence.

*Ding. The doors opened to reveal Kobayashi, not drunk surprisingly enough, but her aura was all doom and gloom.

Since she was a familiar face, Medea greeted her more informally than the others.

"Oh, welcome. What's wrong? You seem down in the dumps."

"Hey Medea, it's just that recently, these people moved into my house, but I don't know how to deal with them."

"People moved into your house? You can call the police for that you know."

"I know, but they have... special circumstances and I can't refuse them. It's been like this for the past couple days."

"Are they nice? Are they bothering you then?"

"They are nice actually, a bit too nice in fact, but they're not really a bother. It's just that... okay. Let's just say hypothetically, if an ancient powerful dragon asks you to take her to school, would you?"

"That's certainly a weird question." She wasn't dumb. Hearing this, she put two and two together in her head, and realised that that is probably what she's going through, but for the conversation's sake she just went along with it.

"I would say that I would, but it really depends. Describe this so called dragon"

"Describe? How can I put this... although the dragon's powerful, she also has the mind of a child, which is why she wants to go to school. But she kinda doesn't have any self control."

"Oh? It sounds like you know of such dragon."

"A-Ah no. Just hypothetically of course." Medea just smiled at this.

"Of course, regarding the question before, if that was the case then I would probably assign a guardian to her, or if that's inconvenient, have someone who can control her as an undercover teacher or someone who works there. Then, they can continuously observe her and if something happens, the person could step in."

"...That actually sounds like a good idea. But, it's just where to get such a person..."

At this point, Artoria, the uncorrupted one, walked out of the kitchen holding her beloved infinite bowl of food, with a sandwich in her mouth.

Feeling multiple gazes on her back, she stopped chewing and looked back with a perplexed stare.

"I know just the person..."

...

The next day, during when the shop was closed, the tables were rearranged into a long meeting desk. On one side, there was Medea, Artoria and Ciel, and on the other, there was Kobayashi, a little girl who called herself 'Kanna', and another girl who looked a bit older called 'Tohru'. She was also dressed in a maid outfit.

At the head of the desk was Rimuru, with both arms on the desk, propping his head up with black sunglasses on and a serious expression.

"It seems everyone is here, then let us start this meeting..."

It was Artoria who put her hand up first.

"Boss Rimuru, I object to this idea. I don't want to be a teacher at school!"

Kobayashi, in this room full of godly beings, although she didn't know that, wanted to say that she didn't want to force someone who didn't want to to work as a teacher, but just when she looked up, her eyes met another pair of blood-red eyes, and she immediately shut up and looked down again.

(S-so intimidating!)

The girl dressed as a maid, Tohru, then spoke up, "why don't you want to be a teacher?"

"Because... because... I have to also work here. Yes, that's it." The king of Britain looked smug at thinking of this.

"I am willing to cover your shifts."

*snap. The string to her freedom was cut by Medea.

"Then... then." She couldn't think of any excuses.

But then suddenly, black marks crept up her skin, and into her eyes.

Then, her entire demeanour changed. Her eyes held confidence and absolute authority as if she ruled the people here.

"Why can't Medea be the teacher?"

"Because she has to work here?" Ciel then answered her with a sarcastic remark, "you see Artoria, unlike you who only knows how to eat and look intimidating, Medea diligently does the work here. She receives customers in a very professional and friendly way. Although you do do that, if you were to ask the rare customers which customer service was better, no doubt everyone would vote Medea.

But because of your natural posture and confidence, being a teacher would definitely suit you much better. I didn't realise this before, but now such opportunity has opened itself, you must grasp it.

Don't worry, you can still live here and we will still pay you the wage, on top of the school paying you. Okay?"

The king who was so full of confidence was instantly shut up by Ciel. Activating every skill in her arsenal, she still couldn't think of a reason to refuse.

"W-well, we will still have to ask the person in the centre of this mess. Kanna, was it? Do you want me to be your teacher." As she was saying this, she was shaking her head very rigorously.

"I-I-I wouldn't mind..." A weak voice sounded, which was the final decision maker for her. She collapsed onto the table, thoroughly defeated through and through.

Ciel also sat down, with a smug look on her face and looked at Rimuru triumphantly. He just gave a sigh in return.

"Kobayashi, she is still technically in your care. What do you think of this?"

"Ummm. I was thinking to not force her if she doesn't want to... but now I'm more inclined to believe she's just playing hard to get... Kanna, why do you agree? I thought you didn't really like strangers that much?"

"It's because... she smells like... a dragon." Which made sense, because technically Artoria had the heart of a dragon.

"Yes indeed. I also felt it when I arrived. She should have the heart of quite a powerful dragon." Tohru also added.

"Wait WHAT" It seemed like Kobayashi was the one left in the dark now.

"You didn't know? Oh, I forgot you were just human. Basically she has a dragon's heart."

"..." She was completely speechless, "how did that happen?"

"A red dragon allowed me to take it's heart and magic circuits, that's all."

"Did the dragon die?"

"Yes."

"... So you technically killed a dragon?"

"Yes." A look of pride was evident.

"Kanna... you sure you want her as your teacher? What if she..."

"Don't worry... Kobayashi... dragons can only give their hearts... if they were willing..."

"It is as she says, the only way for her to get a dragon's heart and it's abilities is if it was willing to give it. What probably happened was the dragon was probably already dying before it gave its legacy to her."

"I see. So that's why you want her then Kanna?"

"Yes."

Now that everyone agrees for her to be a teacher, Artoria found herself with no way out. The only one that hasn't said a word yet was Rimuru, but when she looked at him, she found that he was asleep! It turns out that all the back and forth dialogue was akin to a lullaby for him.

(Come on, you couldn't have fallen asleep at a worse time!)

She then gave a sigh of defeat and slumped back in her chair.

"Fine... where am I teaching then."

"I did some research regarding this. I think going to Kuoh Academy seems good. It used to be an all girls school but only recently did they start allowing boys." Kobayashi didn't know that the school just happened to be the place where the Red Dragon Emperor in the group chat goes, and neither did Medea. Moreover, it also just happened to be the place where the most bizarre supernatural things happen.

"Kuoh Academy? Then what subject?"

"History seems appropriate." Ciel interjected.

"But their history teachers are filled up."

"Then we'll just get rid of one." Her tone sounded like it was nothing to worry about, which was the complete opposite of what Kobayashi felt.

"G-get rid of them?"

"Yeah, you know, just give them enough money to retire and they will be outa there."

"Phew... I see. Yeah that's fine then."

After a couple more discussions on the more admin side of stuff, they reached a conclusion that Artoria would start to teach history at Kuoh Academy, and Kanna would enroll there as a first year.

...

It was the next week, and also Artoria's first day.

She arrived walking by walking half an hour, and stood in front of the main building.

She also saw Kanna already making friends with others of the same year.

(It seems she arrived earlier than me.)

The school occupied quite a large area, it looked more like a castle than school grounds to be honest.

Flora decorated the open space in front of the building, and brick walls 3 metres high bordered the land.

As she walked across the field, she was reminded of the beautiful da- nope.

As someone who literally used to rule a country, her strength can be considered as top notch, therefore as soon as she arrived, her gaze spread over the entire place, and was already disgusted by the sight of perverts and other strange people.

Most people here had unnaturally sized assets and she couldn't help but compare herself to them.

But what was most shocking was that there were lots of supernatural activity going on. She felt multiple people who possess mana spread over the campus, and it was specially concentrated in a room at the top of a branch of buildings.

(Interesting, perhaps it won't be all that bad... Who am I kidding, I hate this already.)

...

Her first class as with the third years.

As she entered the classroom, already she could feel the stares especially commonly pointed at her chest and hip area. Clenching one of her fists invisible to everyone else, she used a special samara breathing technique to calm down.

"Good morning class. I'm now unfortunately your new history teacher. Call me Artoria-sensei."

Someone put their hand up, "what happened to Sato-sensei?" (A/N I made this name up.)

"He somehow lucked out and won the lottery, so he retired early. And now I'm stuck here, okay?"

Her feisty temper already chilled the class down, and now no one dared to look at her features.

Satisfied by their behaviour, she switched to a more gentle tone, "now, hmm. Yes, turn to page 69 and we shall begin the class."

As if by coincidence, they were actually studying the British empire centuries ago. Artoria didn't know what to feel about this. Raising an eyebrow, she began to read the textbook.

"The British Empire was composed of the dominions, colonies, protectorates, mandates and other territories ruled or administered by the United Kingdom and its predecessor states. But then they fell due to the superiority of Morgen Le Fay..." Her voice lowered as she progressed further into the paragraph, before completely stopping after that.

(This book is not accurate! What does it mean by 'superiority'. I could've killed her with a twig on the floor. She merely tricked me!)

Then, her inner voice sounded out: (HAHA! What a great way to put it, she was indeed superior).

"Artoria-sensei, why did you suddenly stop?" A red-haired boy put his hand up and asked.

"Oh, nothing, what's your name?"

"Issei, sensei."

"Very well Issei, as for your question, I was thinking about something, that's all.

Now back to-"

"Sensei! Do you really think that Morgen Le Fay was the reason that Arthur Pendragon was defeated?" Another boy put his hand up, but shouted out. (Why did he put his hand up if he was just going to say something?)

"Perhaps, but I personally think she was inferi-"

"Sensei! Was Arthur Pendragon really that weak?" A different person shouted out.

"Well, no he was ver-"

"Sensei! How embarrassed must Arthur Pendragon be if he found out how he was killed by Morgen Le Fay."

"I must say that the emotion wouldn't be embarrass-"

"Sensei!-"

"Sensei!-"

"Sensei!-"

It was ridiculous, to the point where Artoria, even with enhanced hearing and thinking couldn't figure out which question to answer and which question came from which person.

Her presence in the room became less and less until she, the great King, was overwhelmed by a bunch of talkative children.

*snap. For the nth time this month, black marks appeared on her body and slowly seeped within the skin. Suddenly, all the students felt a cold aura.

"SILENCE!" The voice boomed and echoed in the classroom, and silence descended.

Issei may be dumb, but even he could detect the change in their teacher.

10 seconds later, she opened her eyes, revealing a pair of beautiful black and golden eyes.

"Turn back to page 70 and start reading in COMPLETE SILENCE!"

This time, no one dared to ignore her, and everyone quickly flipped open their pages and started reading.

(Partner, she is not simple)

(Well no sht)

(No, not in that way. She has the aura of a dragon, no, multiple dragons)

(Wait, really?)

(Yes, and the strength of some may be on par with me and Albion, it is best to be cautious)

(Okay)

...

Red Dragon Emperor: Hey guys, you have no idea what happened today.

King of Imanity: Yo what happened.

Red Dragon Emperor: I've got a new history teacher, and she was... quite unique

King of Imanity: Yeah?

Red Dragon Emperor: She was so dominating...

Ainz: Is that what your into?

Red Dragon Emperor: Ummm, no comment. But get this, she's also a dragon, or has the aura of a dragon.

King of Imanity: A dragon you say? Stay cautious then.

Red Dragon Emperor: I will, but she's like, weird. It's like she's two people merged into one.

Medea: ...

Sitting on a chair in her room, Medea frowned at this.

(Dominating? Two people? Dragon? Why does this remind me of someone?)
