Chapter 3: Only time will tell

Johnathan sat on his throne dumbfounded, he raised his hand signaling the guards to leave,he began to throw back at the time things were alright between him and Cane. "Brother... brother... brother look I caught a big meat bigger than that of the last time" Cane said joyously running to Johnathan. "so, tell me brother, what do you think, I'm I good?" he asked waiting impatiently for John's answer. " Of course you are bro, everyone wants and pray for a brave and strong younger brother like you but here you are without even asking, it seems like other people's prayers got answered not for them but to me instead... okay, c'mon let's go inside father is really going to be proud of you believe me" he said smile at the happy Cane, leading him to the door way. Johnathan wiped his rolling tears, adjusted on his throne and continued with his thoughts. "John... brother you promised to teach me how to cast spells remember?" Cane asked smiling from ear to ear, dragging him to the training Field. "Of course I do remember I said that but before learning how to cast spells one should know the reason he or she is doing so and one thing you should bear in mind is that magic should flow through you, and magic shouldn't be miss used, magic has rules as to everything on earth has rules and procedures we are meant to follow, that's why we are forbidden to use black magic" Johnathan explained sitting on a rock as Cane equally sat besides him . "Oh yes I know, magic is a power given to us by our ancestors,it is a mysterious or supernatural force blah blah blah" Cane declared wanting Johnathan to move on,Johnathan giggled at his reactions and words. "Alright... alright like I said earlier you need to know the reason for casting each spell you cast and don't attach emotions when doing so, because it's dangerous and could kill the caster" Johnathan explained looking at Cane who seems to have understood what he said. "but brother, why does it seem like we the royal family are the only ones allowed to use magic and to cast spells?" Cane asked waiting to know more about their people since their father haven't explain so to him."well, it not really that but only the royal blood are born with magic while the rest learn theirs, but it looks as if magic is not allowed to be practiced among none royal blood because in the past there have been a lot of magic miss use and people have used it for there selfish aim, when none royal blood practice magic it mainly becomes an upside down magic which is seen as a disaster when not controlled that's why it seems like only we the royal blood practice magic"John explained looking kneely at Cane who was likely finding the whole thing interesting. "Okay, tell me something brother, who taught you how to cast spells and what was your first impression about magic?" Cane asked wanting to know more about his so called brother as he was told by his mother when she brought him to the palace before she passed away. "Well, mom taught me, mom is really good in casting spell, she really taught me the basics of spell casting and magic itself, she said that we are born with Magic and once we believe and know the spell we want to cast it will flow through our blood stream, I really never wanted to learn spell casting because I felt alone during my childhood, was never allowed to play with other kids and no one to discuss with,my mom was the only one who tries to make out time for me but she still seems always occupied, she finally convinced me and told me by telling me what being a royal blood and things expected from a royal blood".John explained feeling a bit down hearted."it's okay brother you don't have to worry about being lonely any more because I'm now here, you are my brave brother as well, although you are not older than me that much but to me you are not only a brother to me but equally my mentor" he said honestly and trying to make him feel feel better as well. "c'mon Cane, don't try to make me feel better, I know that's what you are trying to do"he said looking closely at Cane."Not really, it's true that I take you as my mentor, but you have to promise me one thing"Cane said pointing out his pinkie (Pinky finger), looking up at John who was equally looking at him to know what he was about saying, Johnathan move his head up signaling him to continue."Promise me that you will always love me as a brother like you do now even if I happen to turn bad in the future or becomes a villain in your life story" cane declared looking down feeling disappointed since the expression on John's face refused to comply with him as he was about putting down his pinkie,John grabbed it with it with his own pinkie which indicates that it's a promise."I promise you Cane I will never and have never thought about forgetting you, you are the brother I never had in my childhood but you came and fill those void of my childhood,and you equally have to promise me that you will never say such words again, never say you will turn bad in the future or become a villain in my story because the future is not ours to see, else I will stop talking to you" Johnathan said turning to the other side. "Okay, I'm sorry I won't ever say that, I promise" he said holding his pinkie tight with a smile on his face."C'mon brother this is an unbreakable promise remember that"Cane declared embracing his brother as they both giggle. Johnathan felt a hand on his shoulder which caused him return to the present moment. "John, how long will you be like this?, I was told that you haven't been yourself since Cane left you are not the one at fault I know that for sure" Ulrika tried assuring him."But he doesn't, he thinks that father and I were wrong, although father never gives time to his children but he do loved us, I know I felt same way in my childhood but my mom made me realize that he does care" Johnathan said placing his hand on face dragging it to his hair, while using the other to hold his crown. "Any news on Sophie and Geoffrey?" Ulrika asked concerned."No...not yet, only time will tell" Johnathan assured himself looking at Ulrika who could understand his pain.
