Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Exam

The Hunter Exam had begun.

The first stage demanded them to follow an examiner named Satotz, who ran at a constant speed through a long tunnel. They had to keep up with his pace, or else they would be left behind and disqualified. The tunnel seemed to have no end, and the applicants had to endure the fatigue and boredom of running for hours.

They also had to avoid the attacks of some of the applicants, who tried to sabotage them or slow them down. Some of them used their strength or weapons to assault them, such as throwing knives or rocks at them, while others used their tricks or traps to deceive them, such as creating illusions or setting explosives.

Kai used his speed and agility to dodge the attacks, and his nen to sense the presence and intentions of the enemies. He also helped his friends and allies, who were targeted by the stronger or more hostile applicants. He reached the end of the tunnel with no problem, and waited for the others.

The second stage required them to cross a vast swamp filled with dangerous creatures, such as giant snakes, spiders and frogs. They had to navigate a treacherous path, avoiding the traps and pitfalls that lurked beneath the murky water.

They also had to fend off some of the applicants, who unleashed the creatures as weapons or distractions. Some of them used their abilities or skills to control or manipulate the beasts, while others used their cunning or stealth to evade or ambush them.

Kai used his knowledge and observation to identify the creatures and their habits. He also used his yo-yos and nen to fight or scare them away. He also protected his friends and allies, who were attacked by the creatures or the applicants. He crossed the swamp with no problem, and waited for the others.

The third stage challenged them to cook a dish using a rare and exotic ingredient: spider eagle eggs. They had to climb a steep and rocky cliff, where the spider eagles guarded their nests with fierce attacks. They had to snatch the eggs from the beaks of the giant birds, risking their lives for a chance to pass.

They also had to prepare them in a way that pleased two examiners: Menchi, a gourmet hunter with refined taste, and Buhara, a gluttonous hunter with a huge appetite.

They had to pass both of their tests, or else they would fail. They also had to compete with some of the applicants, who tried to steal their eggs or ruin their dishes. Kai used his climbing and hunting skills to get the eggs from the cliff. He also used his cooking and creativity skills to make a delicious dish that impressed both examiners. He also helped his friends and allies, who had trouble with their eggs or dishes. He passed the third stage with no problem, and waited for the others.

The fourth stage was a test of courage, cunning and luck. The candidates had to face Lippo, a notorious examiner who ran a secret prison under the city. There, he kept some of the most wanted and feared criminals in the world, each with their own twisted story and skills.

The candidates had to pick one of these prisoners at random, and challenge them to a game of their choice. The game could be anything, from cards to chess to rock-paper-scissors. But the stakes were always high, from money to time to life. It was a gamble that could make or break their dreams of becoming hunters.

They had to win the game, or else they would lose something valuable or stay in prison forever. They also had to watch out for some of the applicants, who tried to cheat or interfere with their games.

Kai used his intelligence and intuition to choose his opponent: a man named Majitani, who claimed to be a member of the Phantom Troupe. He also used his logic and psychology to play his game: a simple coin toss. He tricked Majitani into thinking he had nen abilities, and made him surrender before he even tossed the coin. He won his game with no problem, and waited for the others.

In the fifth stage, they had to fight each other in a tournament bracket. They were randomly paired up with another applicant, and had to face them in a one-on-one battle in an arena.

The rules were simple: whoever gave up or was knocked out first would lose. The winner would advance to The winner would advance to the next round, while the loser would have to wait for another chance. They had to win three rounds in a row, or else they would fail. They also had to face some of the strongest and most dangerous applicants, who had made it this far.

Kai displayed his martial arts and nen skills in a tense duel with his adversary, Pokkle, a proficient archer who wielded a bow and arrow. Kai dodged and parried the arrows with his agility and reflexes, while using his nen to create a protective aura around him. He closed the distance with Pokkle and delivered a powerful kick to his chest, sending him flying. Kai had the upper hand, but he knew Pokkle was not done yet.

Pokkle got up from the ground, gasping for air. He reached for his bow, but Kai was faster. He grabbed the bow and snapped it in half, throwing the pieces away. Pokkle looked at Kai with fear and anger in his eyes.

He reached for his pocket, where he had a hidden knife. He lunged at Kai, hoping to catch him off guard. Kai saw the move and reacted quickly. He grabbed Pokkle's wrist and twisted it, making him drop the knife. He then punched him in the face, knocking him out. Kai had won the fight in this round.

His next opponent was Ponzu, a cunning beekeeper who used bees and poison as her weapons. She wore a hat with a veil that covered her face, and a backpack that contained a hive of bees. She smiled wickedly as she saw Kai, who was still recovering from his fight with Pokkle.

She pressed a button on her backpack, and the hive opened. A swarm of bees flew out, buzzing angrily. They headed straight for Kai, who sensed the danger and tried to run.

Ponzu laughed and said, "You can't escape my bees. They will sting you and inject you with their venom. You will feel pain like never before, and then you will die."

She followed Kai, keeping a safe distance from the bees. She watched as Kai tried to fend off the bees with his nen and his martial arts, but he was outnumbered.

He felt the stings and the poison coursing through his veins, but he did not give up. He then remembered his training at the mansion where he was injected a lot of different kinds of the worse and dead poisons to gain an immunity.

He eventually gained an immunity towards the bee's poison and looked for an opening, a way to get to Ponzu and stop her. He saw a rock on the ground, and picked it up. He threw it at Ponzu, hoping to hit her or distract her. The rock missed her, but it hit her backpack, causing it to malfunction.

The hive closed, trapping the bees inside. Ponzu gasped and looked at her backpack in horror. She realized she had lost her advantage, and she panicked. She turned to run, but Kai was faster. He caught up with her and grabbed her by the neck. He squeezed hard, making her choke.

He said, "You tried to kill me with your bees. Now I will kill you with my hands."

He tightened his grip, until she lost consciousness. Ponzu's body went limp, and he dropped her on the ground. Kai had won the fight, but he felt no joy. He felt only disgust and pity for his opponent, who had chosen such a cruel way to fight.

Kai then stood in the arena, facing his last opponent: Hanzo, a ninja from the Land of Shadows. He was a tall and muscular man, with short black hair and a bandana covering his forehead. He wore a dark blue outfit, with a hooded cloak and a mask that covered his mouth and nose. He carried a katana on his back, and several kunai and shuriken on his belt. He was fast and stealthy, with a mastery of ninjutsu and hand-to-hand combat. He was one of the strongest and most experienced applicants in the exam.

Kai knew he was not an easy opponent, but he was not afraid. He was confident in his own abilities, and he was determined to win. He wore a white shirt, black pants, and red shoes. He carried two metal yo-yos on his belt, which he used as his main weapons. He also had a hidden blade in his shoe, which he used as a backup weapon. He was a genius in nen and martial arts, with a mastery of all six types of nen: enhancement, emission, transmutation, manipulation, conjuration, and specialization. He was one of the most talented and versatile applicants in the exam.

They stared at each other, waiting for the signal to start the fight. They felt each other's aura, which was strong and sharp. They sensed each other's intention, which was clear and firm.

They wanted to win.

They heard the voice of the examiner, who announced the rules of the fight.

"The rules are simple: whoever gives up or is knocked out first will lose. The winner will advance to the next round, while the loser will have to wait for another chance. You have to win three rounds in a row, or else you will fail. You can use any weapons or abilities you have, as long as you don't kill your opponent. Are you ready?"

They nodded.

"Then let the fight begin!"

They dashed towards each other, closing the distance in seconds. They exchanged blows, kicks, punches, slashes, throws, blocks, dodges, counters, feints, tricks, traps, and attacks. They used their nen to enhance their physical abilities, They used their nen to enhance their physical abilities, create and manipulate their weapons, and protect themselves from harm. They fought with skill, strategy, and creativity, trying to gain an advantage over each other.

They fought for a long time, but neither of them could land a decisive blow. They were evenly matched, in both strength and willpower. They were both exhausted, injured, and bleeding, but they refused to give up. They respected each other as worthy opponents, but they also challenged each other as fierce rivals.

They reached a stalemate, where neither of them could move or attack. They were locked in a grapple, with Hanzo holding Kai's arm and Kai holding Hanzo's leg. They were both on the ground, with their faces inches apart. They stared into each other's eyes, which were filled with determination and defiance.

They spoke to each other, with their voices low and strained.

"Give up." Hanzo said.

"No." Kai said.

"Give up." Hanzo repeated.

"No." Kai repeated.

"Give up." Hanzo insisted.

"No." Kai resisted.

They continued like this for a while, until they realized they were wasting their time and energy. They decided to end the fight with one final move. They gathered their remaining nen, and prepared to unleash it on each other.

They counted to three in their minds, and then released their nen.

Hanzo used his nen to emit a powerful blast of air from his mouth, which he aimed at Kai's face. He hoped to knock him out with the force of the blast, or at least make him lose his grip on his leg.

Kai used his nen to transmute his aura into electricity, which he channeled through his yo-yo's string. He hoped to shock Hanzo with a high voltage current, or at least make him lose his grip on his arm.

They both succeeded in their attacks, but they also failed in their defenses. They both felt the impact of their opponent's nen, which hit them hard and fast. They both felt the pain of their opponent's nen, which burned them and shocked them. They both lost consciousness for a moment, and then regained it.

They both let go of each other, and fell back on the ground. They both gasped for air, and coughed up blood. They both looked at each other, and smiled weakly.

They both knew they had tied.

They heard the voice of the examiner, who announced the result of the fight.

"It's a draw! Neither of you gave up or was knocked out first. You both passed the final phase of the exam! Congratulations! You are now Hunters!"

They heard the cheers and applause of the other applicants and examiners, who were watching the fight from the stands. They felt proud and happy for themselves and each other. They had done it. They had become Hunters.

They reached out their hands to each other, and shook them firmly. They felt a bond of friendship and respect between them. They had become friends.

They said to each other, with their voices sincere and grateful.

"Thank you." Kai said.

"Thank you." Hanzo said.

He achieved his goal of becoming a Hunter, joining the ranks of Gon, Kurapika, Leorio and Killua. He held his Hunter License in his hand, feeling a surge of pride and excitement. He opened the door to a world of adventure and opportunity, ready to explore and discover its wonders.

He had done it.

He had become a Hunter.

He felt proud, happy, and excited.

He was ready.

The Hunter Exam had ended.
