Chapter 25: Rewards From the Mission
"Huh?" Carla looked at Lucius with slight confusion as he massaged his neck.
"Of course, I wouldn't do such a thing, for the love of god, I do sometimes take some advantages, but never anything like this, I already have multiple A-grade villains that I handle, I'm the head of this branch, do you really think I would risk my entire career to take a person that although might be talented, has some loose screws as well?" Lucius asked Carla who was simply blinking and staring at him.
"I wanted to test Carl, see if he will bend or break under pressure, and I was just about to congratulate him for saying no before you entered," Lucius said as he sat down and sighed.
"As for the men I have posted, I placed them to watch over Carl and make sure he is alright, but since you have a problem with them, I'll call them back, I don't have a problem with that."
"Aha, I see, well … I might have acted a bit too emotionally there," Carla said as she scratched her cheek and looked at Lucius who was still massaging his neck.
"A little?" Lucius asked, "You almost broke my neck, fcking hell girl."
"I'll call Carl back, you probably want to talk to him, right?" Carla asked as Lucius stared at her.
"Yes, but you have to be present too, I want to explain things to him, I don't want him to think I wanted to kidnap his villain like this," Lucius said with a slightly angry expression as Carla nodded her head before leaving the office.
Mere seconds later, a man entered the office, the same one that Lucius had told to send men to watch over Carl a couple of days ago.
"Call the men back, they don't need to watch over Carl anymore," Lucius said, to which the man simply nodded before leaving the office.
As the right-hand man of Lucius, he had insight to more information than the normal employees of the agency, so he knew that since Carla had taken an interest in Carl, and had even stayed over the last night, his safety was definitely not an issue.
'Never thought that Lucius was that kind of person, to actually try to take Nacht away from me, that ass.'
[ It was unexpected, that is certain. ]
'Yeah it was, and hey, where the hell are my rewards, the mission ended a while ago and you gave me no notification you stingy system!'
[ Don't call me stingy you bastard, you just never asked to see the log. ]
'Well I'm asking now, show it to me, lemme see those rewards baby!!' I said excitedly as the notification appeared in front of me, only for my eyes to widen upon seeing it.
[ The host has successfully finished the mission, and the villain Nacht has killed over 20 flies ( D-grade heroes ) and 2 B-grade heroes, the rewards are the following:
- 1X Strength Pill
- 1X Minor Body Cleansing Pill
- 1X Power Ring
The power ring is a new item for the host, the power ring can be worn on any finger and can take the shape the host prefers, the ring will do nothing until the host activates it, upon activating it, the host's physical power will double for a short period of time, be warned however, the drawback to using the power of the ring will put you in a weakened state for the next two hours, during which the host will only have 20% of his original strength ]
'Holy f.' I said as I stared at the ring that had suddenly appeared on my hand. Just by thinking about it, the ring changed its appearance into a plain silver ring that had some engravings and I put it on my right index finger before nodding my head in satisfaction.
'And I even got a cleansing pill, but hey, since it's a minor one, that means it won't do the job as well as the normal one, so how much is the difference?'
[ The minor pill has 50% of the power a normal pill has, that is the same for every pill. ]
'Tch, that means Nacht has still cost me quite a lot back then, but oh well, at least I gained something from this.' I thought as I cranked my neck, only for the door of my office to open.
"Lucius wants to see you," Carla said as she entered my office, upon which I crossed my arms in front of me.
"I'd rather switch branches than have to see that bald-headed bastard again."
"Just … just come, it's a misunderstanding, trust me on this, alright?" Carla asked before closing the door and appearing in front of me. She quickly straddled me and got to about an inch in front of my face. I could feel the warmth of her breath on my face, and I could smell her perfume, which was quite nice.
"You know that I wouldn't do something that would harm you, so just come to Lucius with me, and he will explain everything, I was a bit hasty back there, otherwise you would have heard it from Lucius right after you had given him your answer," Carla said before giving me a quick kiss and getting off me.
I followed her, almost mesmerized by the way she walked and swung her hips around and before I knew it, I was in front of Lucius's office.
"Ah, Carl, nice to see you again, please take a seat," Lucius said as he smiled at me, but I managed to see the faint red marks that were on his neck. Seems like Carla had done a number on him, huh?
"Now, as I was about to say before we were interrupted my miss Carla here, congratulations, you have passed my test," Lucius said with a smirk.
"Test?" I asked him, not knowing what the hell he meant.
"Yes, a test, I wanted to see how determined you are, to see whether you would actually bend down and allow someone, even a higher-up like me, to bully you around and take advantage of you, but you didn't, which is what I hoped would happen," Lucius said with a smile.
"We both know that after what Nacht has done, he will definitely get promoted to a B-grade villain, and because you are his handler, you will gain quite some benefits, and you will be a step closer to becoming a B-grade handler as well, which might not necessarily be good."
I nodded my head to Lucius as I understood what he meant. If I became a B-grade handler so quickly after being promoted twice in short succession as I have before, many eyes will be drawn over me, and not only will I receive a lot of attention from others, but so will my villains, especially Nacht.
"Yes, you will face a lot of pressure from those that are ranked higher than you, many will even try to bully you around or take away the villains you are handling as well, after all, it is not every day that a villain of Nacht's talent can be seen, given proper guidance, he can reach very high."
"I know, but I'm not afraid of anyone stealing those two from me," I said as I knew that Nacht and Blorg would definitely not join a different handler, no matter what they might offer them.
"Two, you mean Blorg as well?" Lucius asked with a weird expression.
"I doubt anybody will try to even look at that guy to be honest, even though he has managed to become a C-grade villain, it was pure luck, everybody knows what he is like."
"Yes, I know," I told Lucius while smiling inside. Yes, many already know about Blorg and what a nightmare he is to work with, but nobody knows that he is capable of creating such incredible items, soon, other handlers will lament the fact that they had stopped working with him.
I just need to get him to start selling items to the agency, and both he and I will be rich thanks to that, not to mention that a villain that can craft good items is one that nobody wishes to offend or go up against.
After all, everybody needs items and artifacts, especially those that are highly ranked as they were incredibly rare. If Blorg can create such items, or at least items a step below them, then no villain will want to be on his bad side and everybody will be kissing his ass, as well as mine, in order to get some items created.
Of course, that all depended on whether or not I managed to get him to start selling items, and not the weird ones he uses, but the ones that he had made and sent me, the ones that actually function properly.
He is a tough nut to crack, but I am certain that I can persuade him to sell them.
