Chapter 43: Speaking to Lucius and Potential Danger
Only a couple of minutes had passed since Carl finished his conversation with Blorg before somebody knocked on his door. Upon telling the person to come in, Carl smiled at Manager Wang who had entered.
"Manager Wang, we're seeing each other quite often these last couple of days."
"Yes, truly Carl, I have no idea what happened to you to get called by the head so many times." Manager Wang said with a smile on his face.
"It seems you managed to land a big fish during the time you weren't here, huh?"
"You could say so, thanks for giving me the tablet by the way, it was quite helpful," Carl said as he got up and glanced at a mirror that was nearby. He adjusted his tie a bit and nodded at Manager Wang before leaving the office with him.
"You already know where Sir Lucius's office is, so I won't be walking you there, good job Carl, it seems it won't be long before you transfer to a larger branch." Manager Wang said with a smile as he patted Carl's shoulder and went to his own office.
He had been a manager in this branch for the last 10 years, and even though it was a boring job most of the time and he had little hope for getting a promotion, Wang was satisfied. He was earning more than he was in his previous job, he didn't need to be on call constantly, and even had more time to spend with his family, which were things he couldn't afford in the past.
"Sir, you wanted to see me?" Carl asked as he opened the door of Lucius's office and peeked inside.
"Yeah, get in," Lucius said as he held his cigar and stared at Carl.
"Seriously, what has been going on with you recently, you managed to land a big fish that has become a B-grade villain so quickly, Blorg, a failure that never did anything beneficial in the past not only became a C-grade villain, but also made you three items that are quite decent, and now this?" Lucius asked as he showed Carl some documents.
"Oh, that was quick, so do I need to sign it myself or with my villain?"
"You don't sign anything, this is a formal invitation to Miss Isabella to come tomorrow in order to be tested, in order for them to see if she truly knows enough to be invited to work in the lab, seriously though, how the hell did you find somebody that has been invited to work in the lab right away?" Lucius asked Carl with a confused expression on his face, to which Carl simply smirked.
"Sorry boss, that's confidential information, I can't go around telling my secrets to others, right?"
"Haaa, just take those documents and give them to her so she knows what to do, the agency will send somebody to pick her up, where is she staying?"
"In my apartment."
'Lucky bastard.' Lucius's pen broke in his hand when he heard Carl's nonchalant reply, to which the latter said nothing and simply looked around.
"You may leave."
"Ah, before that, I have something to talk to you about, it's about Blorg and the items," Carl said, to which Lucius responded with a nod.
"Well, Blorg would like to start selling some items to the other villains and handlers, we would love to sign a contract with the agency, all the items will, of course, be like the ones he made for me, and all of them will be in limited supply."
"Oh, Blorg is actually creating normal items, I have to say I'm impressed Carl, how did you persuade him to do that?"
"It wasn't easy, but the guy likes me quite a lot for some reason, so I managed to explain to him how he will be able to get more benefits from the agency if he also becomes a crafter, oh, he will also make some of his 'signature' items as well, in case anybody wants to collect them."
"I see, well, there might be a market for such items, Blorg is well known for his incredibly weird and quirky items even with higher-ranked villains, it was just that nobody ever tried buying them even when they were interested thanks to the fact he wouldn't shut up and would just talk and talk and talk."
"Yeah, Blorg can certainly be like that, but no worries, I will be the one responsible for talking to him most of the time, not to mention that the agency will simply send him a message about what item was bought, right?"
"Yes, you merely need to tell Blorg to make the items and then ship them, there is also the option of sending all of them to the agency, which will mean that the agency will take a slightly bigger cut, but will keep the items safe and just send you the money when they are sold."
"I doubt Blorg would want that, I've told him to make a couple of items for inspection, they will be done by tomorrow," Carl told Lucius who nodded at him.
"If they are similar to the items he sent you, I don't see why the agency wouldn't sign a contract with him."
"Things really are looking up for you, huh Carl?"
"Hahahahaha, what can I say, I've been quite lucky recently," Carl said with a smile before getting up and walking to the door.
"I'll see you tomorrow boss," Carl said before leaving, to which Lucius simply nodded before looking to the front.
"The men have been called back sir, do you want to see the report?" A man suddenly appeared behind Lucius and handed him a document Lucius nodded before reading through it.
"Hmmm, he took out five punks in a couple of seconds, threatened the police, and even met up with that girl that has been called over to the lab, incredible, I can sense that he is stronger than before as well," Lucius said absent-mindedly before looking at the last page, to which his eyes slightly widened as his lips curled upwards.
"Do you want us to deal with this issue?"
"No, there is no need, it will be good for him, a bit of pressure will help him out in the long run, so do nothing, not to mention that he is completely safe with that woman with him anyway," Lucius said before handing the document back, to which the man responded by nodding before grabbing the document.
Suddenly, purple flames appeared on his hand and enveloped the document, burning it to ashes in an instant.
"I want you to go to his place tonight, just keep a watch on him, I want to see how things will turn out," Lucius said, making the man nod before disappearing.
"Now Carl, let me see how you will deal with this little problem you have brought to yourself," Lucius said with a slight smile.
On the last page of the document, it said that the brother of one of the five guys Carl had beaten up, the one that was slapped at the very beginning, was a D-grade hero, a newbie that had arrived a couple of months ago.
From the information they had gotten, the hero had already gone to the hospital and the police station and dealt with the issue before getting his brother. As a D-grade hero, a young and potentially talented one, he was given quite some benefits from the HA, and he was using one of them to track Carl down.
From what Lucius gathered, the hero was already driving over to the city, and it wouldn't take him long to arrive. He would arrive this evening, and when he did, Carl would have to deal with him.
Lucius knew that it would take Carla nothing more than a flick of her finger to get rid of the hero, but he doubted she would do so. After all, this was a problem that Carl had gotten himself into, and she would probably want to see how he dealt with the hero.
As a B-grade villain that had been in the agency for a long time, Lucius was a good judge of character, which could be seen from the fact that he was also an A-grade handler and the head of a branch.
He knew that Carl was currently at the same level as a D-grade, so going up against this hero, one that was new to the scene, just like Carl, would be a big test for him.
The rest of the day passed uneventfully and Carl got in his car together with Carla who was for some reason simply smiling but said nothing during their trip back. Just like Lucius, she also knew what was going on, and was excited to see how well Carl performed tonight.
They arrived back at their apartment and got in before getting some food together with Isabella. It was about 2 hours after they arrived that Carla glanced outside and smirked before looking over at Carl and standing up.
