Chapter 45: The Battle Begins

"You want me to fight against him?" Carl asked Carla who was looking at him with a sweet smile plastered on her face.

"Yes, you should put those muscles up to good use, just getting stronger and not gaining any fighting experience won't do you any good, you know?" Carla then tapped the head of the young man, causing his eyes to roll back to his head before he fell down to the ground.

"Jason!" The hero, Jonathan, shouted in rage as he ran to his brother, well, he tried to.

A mere glance from Carla was enough to paralyze Jonathan, who had finally realized just what kind of a mistake he had made by coming here. He now understood that Carla was much more powerful than him, so much more powerful than he was certain she could kill him at any moment.

She wasn't killing him only because she wanted him to fight against Carl, who he had come here to beat up for what he had done to his brother.

Jonathan gulped as Carla smirked at him.

"I only made him pass out, as I have said, if you win the battle, both of you are free to go, I just don't want him to try and join the fight or flee while it is underway." Carla then glanced at Isabella before snapping her fingers again.

"Well, you boys can start, Isabella dear, do keep a watch on this one, if that one tries to save him, you can kill this one," Carla told Isabella who suddenly found herself standing right beside the man who had passed out.

"I … I can't do that," Isabella said as she clenched her hands into fists, prompting Carla to sigh slightly.

"Alright, just freeze him in a block of ice or something, you're strong enough to deal with that guy too, but don't, he's Carl's opponent, but you're allowed to push him away or use your ice if he tries attacking you, or if he tries to get his brother, alright?"

Isabella nodded her head as she sighed in relief. She disliked killing, especially killing a guy who was nothing more than a bystander in this fight and was currently sleeping.

"Alright, I will be watching, you two can start any time you want," Carla said as she smiled at Carl and Jonathan.

"I gotta take care of something really quickly, but as I said, I will still be watching, so fight." Carla snapped her fingers again and she was suddenly gone from sight.

Unbeknownst to any of them, the moment Carla snapped her fingers was when a man froze in his chair as he stared at her. Right on the screen in front of him was Carl's apartment and the surrounding area.

From what Carla could see, the man was using a satellite to look at the place, she had previously sensed that somebody was observing them, which was one of the reasons she had teleported all of them away.

"Now, what shall I do about you, mister handler?" Carla's smile made the man, who was Jonathan's handler, as well as the one that pulled some strings in order for Jonathan to find Carl, shake in fear as he stared at Carla.

"It would be bad if people knew where Carl lived, even though I don't care if you send some heroes after him as I can take care of them, disrupting the balance wouldn't really be a good thing, not to mention that I'll have less time to spend with him," Carla said as she snapped her fingers, making the handler suddenly faint.

He didn't just faint, Carla had wiped his memories, the memories of Carl, his location, what happened recently, it was all gone from his head.

'Hmmm, three other people know about this, I should wipe their memory as well.' Carla thought before disappearing again. In only 15 seconds, she appeared next to the handler again and glanced at the screen.

He extended her hand, and a part of it suddenly disappeared. As she continued extending it, more of her hand, and then her arm, disappeared into the air as ripples appeared around it, as if she had put her arm in the water.

She then took out her arm from the spatial pocket she had placed it in before looking at her hand, which now had a small USB stick in it. She merely let go of the stick, which flew over to the screen before green tendrils appeared from it, connecting to the screen.

It didn't just connect to the screen, but to the origin of the video broadcast, and wiped it off completely, making it impossible for anybody to see the footage that the handler had been looking at previously.

Satisfied, Carla nodded her head before taking the stick back and placing it in the spatial pocket and snapping her fingers, arriving back in the desert, just in time for the start of the battle.

Only about a minute had passed since Carla had disappeared, and Carl and his opponent were observing each other with a serious expression.

Carl was wearing the T-shirt that Blorg had given him as they had all started eating and talking when he arrived home, so he hadn't changed his clothes. Unfortunately, the gun, as well as the sword that Blorg had made for him were back in the apartment, so he had to fight with his bare hands.

'Hmmm, this might be a bit tricky for him, but let's see how things turn out.' Carla thought as she looked with interest.

Jonathan had been observing Carl for the last minute. He could see that the young man was a bit nervous, but his nervousness only lasted for a short couple of seconds, which prompted the young man to curse himself for not attacking Carl right away.

The air around him suddenly started blurring, just like it had before, and he charged at Carl who had a serious expression on his face.

'No help, seriously?!'

[ Nope, I can't tell you what ability he has, you'll have to figure that out by yourself, after all, this is your first true battle, and the stakes aren't even that high. ]

'Not even that high, he is going to try and kill me!'

[ Yeah, but so what, just do your best to not die, with your current strength, that shouldn't be too hard. ]

Carl cursed the system in his head before jumping to the side and evading a kick from Jonathan. The axe kick that Jonathan had performed hit the ground, causing it to crack.

They were in a desert, but not a sandy desert, this one was a dried piece of land, where nothing but some shrubs and dry, cracked soil could be seen.

Some dust rose from Jonathan's kick, but the young man wasn't finished. He continued charging at Carl with full force. He knew that both Isabella and Carla were stronger than him, so his only hope of survival right now was to beat up Carl and take him, hostage.

He wasn't planning on killing him, he hadn't planned on killing him before, he just wanted to teach him a lesson, but he didn't know that Carla would turn this into a life-threatening scenario for Jonathan and his brother, whose life was now being threatened.

'I need to end this quickly, while she is gone.' Jonathan thought as he attacked Carl, punching with all of his might, only to see Carl dodge again.

"Stop acting like a little b*tch and fight me!" Jonathan roared in anger as he suddenly lunged at Carl, grabbing his t-shirt.

Unfortunately, he wasn't stable, and upon grabbing Carl's t-shirt, he was slightly pulled forward, making him lose his balance.

Carl then suddenly smirked and quickly turned before kicking Jonathan straight in the face, sending the latter to slide back for a couple of meters.

"Alright, let's fight," Carl said with a smirk before suddenly glancing down at his shoes.

His right shoe, which was the one that connected with Jonathan's face, had seemingly warped slightly. It looked as if it had … melted a bit.

'Ohh no, don't tell me.' Carl suddenly thought of something, and unfortunately, the ever-present and helpful system was there to confirm his suspicion.

[ Yup, correct, his ability is connected to heat. ]

'He can raise the temperature of his body, that is why the air around him is a bit blurry, it's from the heat.'

[ Once again, correct. ]

'Why are his clothes not getting burned then?'

[ He can either control his ability to somehow not affect them, which is highly unlikely, so we can safely assume that they are very resistant to heat, they're not normal clothes at all. ]

Carl grimaced as Jonathan stood up and wiped the blood that came out of his nose.

"Little bastard, you managed to get quite a good hit, but that's all you're getting, I'm going to break you." Jonathan again charged at Carl, who was now tense since he knew what kind of ability Jonathan had.

He knew that if he was able to grab him, he would be in a world of pain.
