Chapter 64: Loot and Lies: The Deceptions of the Villains

Carl opened his eyes before quickly looking to the side as a bright light hit him straight in the face.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Angela suddenly asked him as Carl looked up, only to find out that his head was on her lap and that she was looking down with a smile.

"Quite comfy, to be honest," Carl said with a smirk as Angela blushed slightly.

"What happened?" Carl asked, to which Angela shook her head.

"I was here the entire time, so I don't know what was going on outside, I just know that after some time, you were spotted on a bed right outside of the agency, as for the others, they are all fine, they managed to defeat the monsters."

"I heard they placed you on the bed because you suffered quite some injuries against the B-grade, but that you managed to defeat it," Angela said as she stared at Carl's face.

"Yeah, that bastard was a tough one."

"Carl."

"Yes, Angie?"

Angela's face reddened a bit as she looked at him.

"How were you able to defeat a B-grade, you just recently got an ability, something like that, it shouldn't be-"

"I got two abilities," Carl said, making Angela stare at him.

"Yeah, with two abilities, one's body becomes stronger much faster, and my second ability is quite a strong and dangerous one, without it, I wouldn't have been able to win."

"Where are the others?" Carl asked as he got up and stared at his body.

He was still injured, his body hurt like hell, but he was wearing a set of new clothes, and his bleeding had stopped.

'Seems like we got some healers in the building, they were probably the ones that patched me up."

"They're outside, cleaning up the battlefield," Angela said, to which Carl merely nodded before standing up.

"Where are you going, you still need to rest," Angela told Carl who shook his head.

"I'm fine, the monsters are all dead anyway, I just want to see how the rest are doing."

Carl stepped out of the office he was in, to which everybody responded by staring at him. They had heard that he managed to kill a B-grade monster, which was an incredible thing, after all, their branch wasn't a particularly large one and the most powerful person they had ever seen was the head, which was Lucius who was a B-grade villain and an A-grade handler.

Nobody expected Carl, who was somebody that, until a couple of weeks ago, was an E-grade handler, to actually be so strong.

He smiled at the workers before making his way to the elevator, but right as he was going to get in, a person grabbed his shoulder.

"Are you sure your injuries are fine?" Carl looked back, only to find a middle-aged woman whom he had not seen in the past.

'Wait, I have seen her around the office, she just works in a different department.' Carl thought before nodding his head.

"I'm fine, I'm just going to see what they are doing."

The woman stared at him before letting go.

"It wasn't easy patching you up, so if you manage to overwork yourself, don't expect me or the others to heal you again, without any payment that is." The woman said before turning around and walking inside another office.

'So she's one of the healers huh?'

Carl shook his head as he got in the elevator and went up. The elevator stopped and Carl went outside, to which he furrowed his brows as the stench of blood assaulted his nostrils.

He looked to the side, only to find Lucius and the others in the middle of the lake of blood that had formed. They were grabbing the more powerful monsters and moving them.

The bodies of powerful monsters were incredibly precious and one could get a ton of money from it. Many things can be made out of the bodies.

The blood of the powerful monsters can be used to create medicine or poison, their bones can be used to create weapons, armor pieces, and even some machines. The skin, fur, and scales of the monsters can also be used for the same things, and their organs can be precious at times as well.

The most important part, however, was the flux gem inside of them.

Not all monsters had it, the weakest monster that could possess a flux gem would be a D-grade, and only 1 out of 10 D-grades had the gem. The gem was actually flux in a physical state. It allowed the monsters to utilize flux easier, and it was very precious, many powerful machines functioned with the help of the gems, and some weapons and suits of armor needed them as well.

The battle suit that Markus had worn during the battle, for example, was such a suit of armor, and it needed a flux gem from a B-grade monster to work for 9 hours, an A-grade gem was enough for it to work 24h, weaker gems would not work on it, and more powerful ones could be used, but they would make the suit activate more than what it usually activated, which would make it slowly destroy itself if used for too long.

Of course, that was the case for S-grade gems, the more powerful ones would destroy it quickly for sure.

Carl's appearance was quickly noticed by Lucius and the others, and some of the C-grades quickly made their way over to him.

"You feeling alright?"

"You were quite beat up man, you sure you can move?"

"You should probably rest some more than push it man, you don't want your injuries to get worse."

The incredible amount of care that the C-grades suddenly showed for Carl was incredible, but for some reason, he was not smiling and was simply staring at them with a deadpan expression.

'These bastards, they want me back inside so that they can steal some of my loot.'

'As if I wouldn't notice that.'

"I'm fine, thanks for caring so much."

'I wouldn't let you steal a single claw from the monsters I killed you petty little bastards.'

"Ah, what happened to the cat, I hope I haven't done too much damage to it, my ability is a bit wild, I can't fully control it, I think I almost hit you guys."

'Next time I'm going to hit all of you for sure.'

The C-grades smiled as they understood that Carl had seen through the façade they showed.

"The body is there, as well as the rest of the monsters you have killed or weakened, it was easy to find them since they all turned gray."

"What kind of a freakish ability do you even possess, for god's sake, that aura was fcking scary."

"Still, you made it easier for all of us to kill the monsters and get some loot, so thanks for that."

"Yeah, all of the gray monsters have been given to you, you're going to make quite some money today."

"Are you idiots still talking, go and scavenge, we don't have all day!" Markus suddenly appeared about 20 meters away and roared at the C-grades who quickly ran back.

"Come on, let's get the loot, the agency is sending a couple of people to get them all, we need to properly divide them before they come, you can choose which ones to keep and which ones to sell directly to the agency," Markus told Carl before turning away.

"This place has been discovered by the HA, we will be moving soon, there is a larger branch in the region, and we are going to fuse with it."

Carl nodded his head as he expected as much.

The VSA was different from the HA as nobody liked them, so every single branch was hidden, and ever since they all appeared to fight the monsters, it was obvious that they would be found out by the heroes.

Carl made his way over to the large cat that was lying next to the lake of blood, and Isabella came to him with a slightly worried expression.

"Are you sure you're alright, you were quite heavily injured, they said you used up all your flux and you passed out because of that."

"Yeah, I'm fine now, no worries," Carl said as he nodded at Isabella.

"We'll talk later, we have to make sure to properly divide everything."

Isabella nodded her head before going back, leaving Carl alone as he looked at the bodies that were already neatly placed.

'Seems like I won't need to divide anything, they already did that for me.'

'Hey, is the mission finished?'

[ No, the outbreak is still not finished, the rewards will not be given to you yet. ]

'I figured, how long till it's finished, can you tell me at least that much?'

[ No, because I don't know, I'm not omnipotent, you know? ]

'I know, you're far too weak to be called anything close to omnipotent, I just thought you would know such a meager information, I was wrong to think so, sorry, I know I place too much faith on you and your capabilities.' Carl said with a smirk, to which the system started cursing him out immediately.

A couple of minutes later, just as they had finished dividing the bodies, a couple of large trucks arrived and stopped in front of the agency.
