Chapter 13: Chapter 13 : Training Days
From that day onwards, team 10 started their training under Asuma. After a few days, Shikamaru was sure that the rate they were training was much more than what could have been in the anime.
A clear indication was that Asuma was currently teaching Shikamaru a fire-style jutsu while both Choji and Ino, under competition and not to be left behind by the number one lazy ass of their class, also started to work harder.
Asuma too fully supported them, because unlike in the anime, this time around he was directed by the Hokage to make Team 10 equal to or better than Team 7. A very hard thing if Shikamaru had anything to say but damn it, they gonna achieve it.
Their normal routine nowadays was used to be gathering early morning in the training ground 10, around 5 am. And either train or complete missions up to late 5 to 6 pm.
After this was more than enough for all three of them to completely get exhausted, but Shikamaru knew that it was not enough. He needs to train more if he really wants to increase his strength to the point that he can handle what the future holds for him and this world.
So even grudgingly, he still joined his father at special training from 8 pm to 10 pm. This special training was directly targeted at improving his mind and strategic skills. Not to mention completely master Nara clan's shadow original shadow jutsu.
Their usual training day nowadays consists of practising their teamwork, the exact thing the Ino-Shika-Cho formation was famous for.
While he was training his Ten shadow techniques, other shadow techniques and strategies under his father or something by himself. Under Asuma, he was learning close combat fighting, other ninjutsu and teamwork with his team.
But that was the biggest problem right now, even after seeing the accelerated rate of improvement from his team, he was sure that they wouldn't make it in the chunin exam.
Maybe some normal guys but nothing close to Naruto, Sasuke, Gaara and Lee. And this might be the biggest problem he was facing right now.
He was not expecting his other two team members to beat any of the above-mentioned names but he himself couldn't. That was what was bothering him. Maybe the only person who he can beat in the above-mentioned names then its Sasuke.
Yeah, strangely Sasuke is the person he found able to defeat and not Naruto. And here is a simple reason.
The majority of his wins will come from his shadow possession jutsu. But this particular Jutsu of his can be overpowered. Naruto with his Nine Tail Chakra, Gaara with One Tail power and Lee with Inner Gates. And that is why he was working hard.
Although he wasn't interested in becoming a chunin at all, in fact, he was still planning to give up this troublesome exam altogether, no matter whose memories, he was still Shikamaru after all.
No, the real reason he was working hard was because of what comes after the chunin exams. To get stronger, the best way he has is the compare himself with his peers at the start and improve where he is lacking. One of those places is his Shadow Possession Jutsu.
"Sigh, this is such a drag,"
Shikamaru muttered to himself as he stood in front of Choji's house to call for his friend. Today was their off day and he planned to motivate Choji in training.
He wants to make his friend strong, he is not expecting Choji to anytime win against the monsters of team 7 but if he can help it then he won't be losing with side characters like Dosu this time around.
"Shikamaru, what do you want, I thought you wanted to nap all day today," Choji came out and asked, still munching on chips but the flavour was different, Shikamaru noticed that.
"Yo, mind coming out with me, Gotta Talk," Shikamaru asked with his lazy attitude as his friend started to follow him.

Sometime later both the boys found themselves in the Nara forest, Choji was still confused as to why he came here with Shikamaru or what he wanted.
"Why did you bring me here Shikamaru? You need something," Choji asked with confusion.
"Well I wanted to show you this," Shikamaru had a smirk on his face when he took out a lunch box from his shadow space and handed it over to Choji.
Choji's face immediately lit up after seeing more food, but still was confused.
"Go on open it,"
Still confused but eager to see what Shikamaru had in the box, Choji opened the box to and a totally new smell which he never smelled before hit him.
Shikamaru saw a Choji gulping and he knew that his plan was working. Slowly taking the food in his hand, Choji ate it and his eyes lit up.
"Shikamaru, wh..what is this" Choji asked as his eyes were full of hunger.
"It's called french fries and fiz cutlet with tomato sauce," A dish from his previous world.
"This is for me," Choji looked at him with expected eyes.
"Of course, it's for you" Shikamaru knew then that he had caught this panda in his net, now he just had to play Shifu here.
Just under two minutes, the food was finished, Shikamaru didn't pack much, to begin with, well he had more but ...hehehehe.
"Shikamaru that's too less, do you have some more, how do you make it, will you tell me the recipe," Choji excitedly asked.
"Ah I do have more but before that, I have to talk with you about something, you see it's about your training and I have a way to make you stronger ..." Shikamaru said calmly and finally started to reveal his true intention.
