Chapter 58: CHAPTER 58

'This must be the lowest unit of money he carries around'.

I received it and went forward and put the bill in the clown's hat. Then the clown started juggling around me, and the person who was playing the violin behind me played much more passionately, making me ashamed. It was probably the biggest money they had received for their talent today. I looked back at Killian, shrugging my shoulders. He was smiling lightly at me. It would have been funny to see me stiffen up and holding a bouquet flowers in one hand and candy in the other because I was afraid of ruining the juggling of the clown.

"It's enough. Let go of my wife now."

When Killian spoke with a laugh, the clown stepped back, the clown thanked him repeatedly and withdrew, and then after that, I was barely able to get back to Killian's side. People around us kept glancing at us as if they were surprised by Killian's appearance. Calling me 'my wife' was strangely tickled inside me, so I couldn't keep my mouth shut. Why do happy times pass so quickly? Our evening, which melted so fast as the 50 sena Street candy ended with the sweetness and fresh smell of wildflowers.

"You may not believe this because you never believe me, but I really have a lot of fun today. Thank you."

At the door of my room, I looked back at Killian and greeted him.

"It was a great outing."

"Everything was my first time. It was a great thing for me."

"Is that so. . ."

I nodded. I never felt so happy before. Maybe, maybe there wasn't. But beyond that, I couldn't think of anything more to say. It seemed rude to hold him too long.

"Then. . . . Good night."

Killian nodded a little, and I closed the back door with one more smile. When the door blocked between him and me, a sigh came out.

'I think I'm going to keep getting greedy if I do this. . . . .'

One of my first resolutions after getting married kept faltering. I still have that piece of paper in my desk drawer where I circled "Be grateful for what you have" over and over again.

Edith closed the door without looking back at Killian any further, so she didn't see him raise his hand belatedly. Edith didn't look at it and shut her door, but Killian wanted to knock on the door again but didn't call Edith.

'Why I'm doing this?'

He squeezes and unclench his hand, lifting it and lowering it again. Then Killian slowly made his way toward his room. Everything he did with Edith today it was a first experience for Edith and new experiences for him. The opera <Odelette> that he chose is just for hoping to have a good date with Edith. Odelette was so famous that he'd seen it many times before. But it's a little difference today opera because the main soprano tonight's was a particularly famous singer, and it would have been the same experience for him. If it weren't for the fact that Edith wasn't with him. At first, he thought it was ridiculous that Edith didn't even know this famous opera. He wondered if she was lying to him, pretending to be naive. But then he remembered, even though he saw Count Riegelhoff several times in this opera house, he never ran into Edith.

'Are you really serious telling me that you've never been to the opera house?'

I thought she didn't like opera, but after the opera started. Edith's response was quite surprising.

"Oh, no!"

I found her covering her mouth to catch her breath, sighing with the anguished Odelette tearing up at the sound of the despairing soprano. When I wiped away the sparkling tears, Edith didn't even know she was crying. She was so surprised and smiled a little. That couldn't be seen as a reaction from someone who doesn't like opera.

'What the hell is going on? There is no way to stop you from watching an opera in Riegelhoff house.'

I had my doubts, but Edith opinions about the Opera were even more surprising. When he says such questions. Edith said that between the two men, she would choose Hubert and never commit suicide. Also added that László is a bastard guy.

"He tested her love. Even though he knew what Odelette had been through, he didn't reveal his identity to test her love. That a bastard"

He hadn't thought of it that way. until now, he thought it was a story about a foolish woman who missed out her true love because she was blinded by material things. But when he heard Edith opinion about the story, it made sense. Testing a love is a very arrogant act that puts you above the other person. And László was arrogant. If he really loved Odelette, he should have reassured her before she was overwhelmed with anguish. Suddenly, Edith made another unexpected remark.

"Killian. You've never been in a situation without money, have you? It's not just money. . . . . there are a lot of things that are solved by money."

He smiled bitterly, as if he had a past of being miserable without money. On top of that, when she said that she was able to understand Odelette, who was married for the sake of her family, his heart fluttered. Edith knew that he was in love with Lizzy, but he forced her to marry him for the benefit of his family. She had never made such an appearance, though her pride was likely to be hurt. Rather, she comforted him that he didn't have to force himself to be nice with her and that he didn't have to suffer from such a sense of duty.

'How could that be?'

When I thought about it, Edith said with a smile.

"But you know a woman. They're much stronger than you think."

It was. Edith was a much stronger woman than Killian thought. She stands firm and maintains her innocence in the face of accusations thrown at her without collapsing and kept the family's honor even though she was abused by her maid under her family's orders. I wonder if this is an honor worth defending or not. After that, she turned away, Edith's smile was so beautiful, so heartbreaking, and solid as if it would never break. However, the woman who feels so strongly becomes a little girl when she steps out into the street. Just some cheap candy alone was enough to make her smile so happily.

"It's delicious. It's very sweet, but it also tastes sour at the same time."

Even though 50 sena candy was delicious, it would have tasted like melted sugar. But Edith looked so happy as if she was eating a dessert that she couldn't taste anywhere else in this world. It would have been better if I hadn't been distracted by her lips sparkling with sugar water.

"Seeing me eating it's make you want to eat, right?"

It was naive and strange to ask. He looked at it because he wanted to eat it. Edith didn't notice what he wanted to eat until the end.

'It wasn't Edith who was lewd, but it was him.'

He sighed, but this time, she asked me to lend her money to buy a withered flower from the girl who sells flowers. In this empire, it's probably only Edith, a noblewoman who wants to buy flowers with her own even though her husband is next to her. He bought all the flowers that were not noticeable from that young girl and tied it with his handkerchief to cover the branch that was cut in the middle, and Edith was so impressed and accepted it.

"This is. . . . .It's my first time receiving something like this."

Her voice was soft, almost whispering to herself, with the excitement of a woman receiving a flowers for the first time. Edith's hastily turned to the question of whether there was any man who sent the flowers, and Killian began to suspicious that Edith's situation within Riegelhoff was very strange.

'There's a person who sent the it, but if the person didn't receive it, where did the flower disappear?'

There is no way they throw it away. The men who wooed Edith must have been the sons from decent families, and Count Riegelhoff couldn't turn those families into enemies. If so, it sounds like it was stolen somewhere else in the middle. . . . .

'You're stealing the flowers from your daughter? Why the hell?'

It was an absurd assumption, but considering the house where the maid who had assaulted his daughter was taken to the carriage, I thought that even absurd assumption might be true. It was unpleasant. It was more frustrating to see what kind of past the woman was hiding, who couldn't even tell the juggling clown to get out of the way and shrink her shoulders.

"That enough, let go of my wife."

Killian was surprised when he said that. My wife. The echo of the words somehow touched me. Then Edith, approaching me with a smile. . . . . The commoners around him looked at Edith, who was approaching him, bewildered. Only then Killian realized that his wife, Edith Ludwig, was a beautiful woman who couldn't be seen everywhere.

"Killian. Let's go now."

The voice whispering next to me was no longer irresistible and felt so lovely. It was such a fun time. It's been a long time since I've felt such excitement and serenity. it was a same feeling that i felt when I went out with Lizzy, but when I thought about her, I always thought of Cliff, and I always have a feeling of impatience and inferiority in the back of my mind. But when I was with Edith, I didn't have to think about that. Because Edith was a woman for Killian, only for him. Just as I was about to apologize for the shortened outing, Edith said she'd really enjoyed it.

"It was a great outing."

"Everything was my first time. It was a great thing for me."

Her first time . Everything is the first time. He felt sad and happy to hear that. The fact that her first time is all filled by himself. And it faithfully satisfied Killian's desire to monopoly. That night, sitting alone in his room, thought about his date with Edith over and over again, Killian was drawn deeper into the questions he had been feeling before.
