Chapter 10: Trial Period (3)

Artemis' POV

"So the big bad wolf is really a tree hugger." Jayce laughed, teasing the bigger male. "Who would have thought?"

"Yes, it's hilarious. Just like spending the night outside will be. I'm sure you'll enjoy the great outdoors and find your tree hugger self." Xander smirked.

Jayce frowned and Artemis tried to stop herself from laughing. It seemed having to pack leaders in the same house was not going to be easy. The two always seemed to be picking at each other, trying to see who had the better wits.

"Okay we get it…You don't need to be funny about it." Jayce muttered. "Anyway, Artemis, I know you're going to college soon, so what you're studying?"

"Healing for the supernatural." Artemis answered.

The university she was going to study at was specialized for the supernatural, allowing students to take courses in things that wouldn't normally have been able to do at a human university.

For Artemis' course, it was about learning medicine as vampires, wolves and witches couldn't go to a human hospital without being found out. There were also certain things that the human doctor wouldn't be able to heal - like wolfsbane poisoning or some types of witch curses.

"A healer huh…"

"Yeah, Elder David has been teaching me the basics and once I finish with my degree, I'll take over as the pack's healer."

"Of course, David will be there for the first few years to make sure things run smoothly while you gain experience." Xander added.

"Hmm." Artemis nodded in agreement.

"That's cool… Okay guess it's Xander's turn to ask a question." Jayce said, picking up the empty plates.

The trio had made their way through five pizzas, and now that they were finished Jayce was doing dishes.

"Mhmm…" Xander thought for a second. "Favorite hobbies?"

"Baseball is mine for sure." Artemis quickly replied.

"I could tell. You dear have one mean swing." Jayce muttered.

"Are you still sore?" Artemis blushed, embarrassed of her overreaction.

"Yip, everything healed up nicely…" Jayce patted his stomach. "Mine is reading I guess. And yours Xander?"

"Hiking."

"Nature boy strikes again!" Jayce joked.

Xander growled. "At least I'm not a fantasy creature reading about other fantasy creatures."

Jayce snarled, placing the plates on the counter and staring at Xander intensely. Artemis decided it was time to end the game else someone was going to land up with injuries.

"Alright, it's movie time!" She clapped her hands, the sound snapping the two out of whatever they were in to look at her.

Xander sighed and nodded his head. "Okay…"

He stood up and grabbed a bag of popcorn from panty, quickly putting it in the microwave. Jayce finished up with the dishes, a slight tension in the air. Artemis sighed inwardly, wondering how the Goddess thought it was a good idea to have two alphas have the same mate.

And pack leaders on top of it all…

"Artemis, caramel?" Xander asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Um…Jayce, are you okay with that?" Artemis asked, knowing not everyone liked sweet things.

"Yeah sure." He replied.

Xander nodded and made the caramel popcorn, putting it into a big bowl. He handed it to Artemis, Jayce finishing up with dishes. The trio then made their way to the sitting room.

They sat on the two seater couch, Artemis stuck between the two males as they made a tight fit, Artemis nearly landing up on Xander's lap. He shifted slightly making Artemis think that he was uncomfortable. Her inner wolf felt disappointed, wanting to be closer to her mate.

Moving a little, she managed to sit on the couch properly, Jayce smiling weirdly when she turned to see if he was comfortable.

"Everyone comfortable?" Artemis asked.

"Hmm." The two replied quickly.

Xander then grabbed the remote as Jayce took her hand, placing it on his leg and covering her hand with his. Xander pressed play, starting the movie before Artemis could make a comment about the move.

***

Ten minutes into the movie, Xander had lost all interest in the plot, falling asleep with his arms crossed over his chest and head on Artemis' shoulder, using it as a pillow. And despite Xander's head being heavy, she didn't find it uncomfortable.

She felt comfortable and warm inside in fact, her wolf enjoying the physical touch.

Artemis stared at Xander, the male looking quite peaceful and happy, a small smile on his face. As she continued to stare at him, she started noticing how handsome Xander was. Embarrassed by her thoughts she turned to look at Jayce.

Who on the other hand had completely lost himself in the movie, forgetting that there were two other people in the room. Artemis was enjoying the movie too, the plot being quite interesting despite it being about witches.

It wasn't that she didn't not like witches, but watching a fantasy about them was a little weird for her. It was like watching a normal movie but seeing them miss up everything about the human world.

Fantasy was a weird genre for her if she was being honest. She liked it mostly, but when it came to certain supernatural things…

Well it got awkward for her.

Despite that she continued watching, wanting to see where the movie would take her.
